That day Zeus was sitting on his throne in deep thoughts. Somebody entered the room. It was Tyche, the goddess of luck. She was crying: -I can’t avoid that nightmare! Every night I dream the same. -What’s exactly?- asked Zeus. -I see a lot of people. They say that the last Olympic Games were awful and they do not want to organize them again! What can we do? -Oh, don’t worry. It’s just a dream. Look at my mirror and it will predict the future,- Tyche came to the wall and whispered: -Please show me the Olympics of the 20 th century…- suddenly she saw a great number of sportsmen. They were competing in diverse kinds of sport. It was a wonderful view! -Please, 21 st century… - and she was able to see the same view. - I said that everything would be alright!- exclaimed Zeus. Suddenly the view in the mirror disappeared. -Oh my, that’s true!-said Tyche nervously. Zeus opened a large Book of Destinies. He was looking for the correct page for more than five minutes. Five long minutes… Then he said: -The Olympics will be saved if the Kingdom saves it. Wait for the King. - We should wait for the king, - said Tyche hopelessly. Since that time a lot of people had come to the palace but Zeus and Tyche were still waiting. One morning somebody knocked at the door. When a young man entered the room it started shining! Tyche was happy: -That is him! What is your name? -I am Londinium. I’ve just won the Olympiada. Tyche came to the mirror and it said: -Your grand son will go to the Great Land and call it London then. It will save the Olympics’. They turned round and saw four great numbers on the opposite wall ‘2012’. They looked at the mirror.
The Thames is going to be busier than ever this summer. One thousand ships will parade along the river during the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant in June, and during the Olympic Games, the spectacular tall ships of Sail Royal Greenwich will transport guests up and down the Thames. The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will use a mixture of new venues, existing and
historic facilities, and temporary facilities, some of them in well- known locations such as Hyde Park and Horse Guards Parade. And, of course, the most important thing is a modern, technological stadium at Marshgate Lane in Stratford is "unique 80,000 seat stadium, it will be the centrepiece for the 2012 Games, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies and the athletics events, converting down to a 60,000 seat permanent stadium after the Games.’ -So-said Zeus- I have no words to describe it. I just understand that London is a perfect place for the Olympics and I am totally convinced that it will be the best Games in the history. Tha nk you, London that you keep our traditions and develop them. -Good luck! – said Tyche.
