Olympic and Paralympic Values Where disabled are able As organizers said: Olympic are build around the seven main values: respect, friendship, equality, excellence, courage, determination and inspiration. We are mankind. We are equal persons having equal purposes. But as time goes by, we lose stuff like will, reason and way to reach our goals. And this is what Olympics are all about. You say it is about being the best? I say it is about showing the world what my best is. You say it´s all about gold medal? I say it is about felling special inside my heart, having confidence and knowing that everyone on the face of the Earth will see and remember who I am. Olympics unite teams, villages, towns and countries to be nice, to share joy and support their best athletes. Seeing athletes fighting till the end and breaking the records will also encourage us to be like them: truculent and valiant. And what could ever encourage us when we face problems on way to imaginary stand of winners then blind swimming for “gold”, man without legs running marathon and other disabled sportsmen shows results of whole life hard work? It is understandable that Olympics are most watched part of whole Games. But as I think through all this I cannot decide, what has more value. Everyone have their interests, hobbies and work and when Olympics end they go back to ordinary life and there is no time for Paralympics. But it is too bad. Everyone forgets about weaker and handicapped people. We watch Olympics and our brain says: “Yes! Gold! They are so great. I should do more with myself and try a bit as they do.” It gives us inspiration. But watching Paralympics will give our heart courage and determination. And this is where the excellence and respect comes! Kateřina Radová Gymnázium T.G.Masaryka, Hustopeče Czech Republic
