“ Gan Wei” Celebration
Fung Ping Palace Square — full of flavors! The local traditional festival "Gan Wei" will be launched in Fung Ping Palace Square during Chinese New Year for two weeks. There will be more than twenty various folk activities and performances in the celebration. Besides, all the members of the public can experience the process for making rice balls, a traditional food. Then people can drink the soup to “sip sweet.” It will bring good luck for the New Year. Originally, Gan Wei Celebration was mainly for the agricultural residents to pray for good harvest in the winter. They selected the first lunar month, around the thirteenth, to pray for peace throughout the day. This ritual was organized by the temple, Fung Ping Palace. Now it has become not only a religious activity but also a culture event combined with art and drama. This year, the Temple Management Committee will display a traditional large stones for making the rice balls. Even children can try to push the stone The committee hopes everyone can participate in the activity, so all the materials for making rice balls are free of charge.
