THE OLYMPIC TRUCE “citius,altius,forties” the Olympic motto, which means fastest highest and strongest, gives us a strong feeling to live our lives with healthy competitive spirits The motto was pronounced by BARON PIERRE DE COUBERTIN at Paris Olympics in 1990 Olympic is a wide term which gives us the understanding of Olympic participation in its activities in past and present along with development of games and sports. it has provided us a healthy platform for competitive activities .to understand Olympics in a better way we must know about its two series till now, ancient Olympic games and modern Olympic games. ANCIENT OLYMPIC GAMES, the origin of Olympic games belongs to Greece ,it continued for many centuries as Greece festival. The first historic game occurred in year 766 BC. These were played in the state of Athens near the valley Appheur river of Olympiad. It included games like ‘emphibians’ ‘diaulos’ ‘dolichos’ ‘panthalon’ ‘puglis’ etc. Unfortunately the glory of these games vanished with the time as ruins are still present in Olympiad. These games were banned by Roman Emperor ’THEODOSIUS’ MODERN OLYMPIC GAMES, the revival work of these games was undertaken by BARON PIERRE DE COUBERTIN nearly 1500 years after the last ancient Olympic games The first site of these games was in 1990 at Paris. Since then these games were held after every 4 years. The choice of city for the celebration is With IOC, and this time its LONDON Earlier in London these games were in years 1908 ,1944,1948 and now in 2012. These games promote to the development of those fine physicaly and moral qualities which are the basis of amateur sports and to bring together the atheletes of the world in this great festival of sports. Its oath, “we swear that we shall take part in these games respecting and abiding the rules which govern them ,in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sports and the honour of our country’’ gives us the true feeling of sportsmanship and true games. Its flag symbolizes supporting attitude of all people of various continents. “The important thing in the Olympic is not to win but to take part. The important thing in life is not the triumph but to struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but fought well” The purpose that it had in mind were: 1.To draw attention of the world to the fact that national programmes of physical training and competitive sports not only helps in developing good health of young people but to create better citizens and promote development of their character and personality.
2.To create in them a sense of loyality, companionship, and teamspirit, to enable young people to be more useful in life. 3.To inculcate among all sports person the concepts that sports is a pastime and not an instrument for material. INDIA too is showing great dedication towards olymiics, last time we got gold in air shooting by Abhinav Bindra andthis time the number of golds will increase with a high rate and our country will be proud of our representatives . KEEPING OUR FINGERS CROSSED LETS HOPE FOR THE BEST THIS TIME AT OLYMPICS 2012………..
