Local NAACP President Request District Attorney Julia Slater Release GBI Report
According to the street committee Pastor L.K. Pendleton, president of the local branch of the NAACP sent a letter to the District Attorney requesting that she release copies of the public records from the GBI regarding the investigation of the Invictus Boys Home.
On February 6, 2019 an investigation into the Invictus Transformational Wellness Center, which is owned by Musco- gee County Marshal Greg Countryman, was launched at the request of the Muscogee County District Attorney’s Office.
The investigation was initially requested by the Child Advocacy Center in Atlanta but required assistance from the DA’s office to formally make the request. The investigation was requested to find: 1) Whether or not any of the children have been subjected to physical or mental abuse by staff and 2) Whether or not there is a lack of supervision by staff contributing to the delinquency of the children. The NAACP has learned that the GBI
The Street Committee
(Georgia Bureau of Investigation) concluded their investigation on March 25, 2019 and subsequently turned over the results to the Muscogee County District attorney Julia slater. Allegedly, according to the report, the group home, as well as Marshal Greg Countryman, has been cleared of all allegations. However, three months later, the District Attorney still refuses to share those results with the public. In response to President Pendleton’s request D.A. Slater stated: “I did request the GBI to look into the home. My office has received their report and we are conducting our follow-up investigation. Until my office has finished its work, I cannot release the report or any part of it.” The street committee has it on good authority that the NAACP has no intention of letting this be the last word.

“Privileged” White Woman Swung At The Wrong Fly Wane Hailes, said he pulled out his camera phone and started recording her.
According to him he was cool until she screamed at him saying she would kill him and could have him killed today. It was at that point that the “Wane Alfred” Hailes in him came out and he had some choice words for her. Next thing he knew this “Crazy White Woman” ran up on him and said; did you just touch me? I know you didn’t just touch me? It was at that moment she realized his girlfriend was watching all of this unfold and she ran into the elevator.
As a baby boomer I still haven’t figured out how to navigate social media, for my son, however, it is not only second nature to him it’s the norm. He immediately posted the video online and within minutes people of all races were coming to his defense. It appeared that the woman, Gina, is a real estate agent with a prominent company in New York City.
We have all heard the stories or have seen the unfortunate and ridiculous incidents played out on social media.
You know their names: BBQ Betty, Permit Patty, Cornerstone Caroline, Golfcart Gail, all White women of “Privilege”, (and I use the word jokingly), who
have called the police on Black people.
On Sunday evening I received a call from my son who lives in New York City. I knew immediately something was up because he generally greets me with “What’s up Pop?” This time it was “Dad you won’t believe
what happened to me just now.”
He went on to tell me how, while outside the apartment complex of his girlfriend, a White female tenant approached him about his vehicle and continued to verbally assault him while entering the building. At that point my son, Raymond
In a case of, “it’s a small world” and “you just don’t know who you f#$%@g wit”, one of those who responded was my son’s good friend who happens to be best friends with the real estate company’s CEO. He called the CEO to tell him about the incident. When the CEO answered the phone he told the gentleman he couldn’t talk with him right now because he was busy dealing with a situation with one of his employees actions on social media. My son’s friend told him that’s exactly why he was calling. He shared with the CEO that he has known my son for 10 years and could vouch for my son’s character. He told the CEO he had no doubt the incident happened as he said it did. The CEO told him that there have

been previous complaints about the employee and to have my son call him. My son called the CEO and shared with him the incident. He thanked him and assured him he would handle it. Not long after ending the conversation with the CEO he noticed “Real Estate Gina” had sent him a post online how she had been in touch with her company and they were recommending that she seek legal action against him. He called the CEO and shared this new information and asked if it were true? The CEO told him that it was an outright lie and that he would definitely handle the situation.
Since that time my son has obtained the security tapes from 4 different angles of the incident from entering the building until she entered the elevator. He posted them online as well. He called me back later that night and said he received a call from her requesting that she would like to meet with him later on this week. Personally I wouldn’t meet with her because I’m from the Maya Angelou school of thought; “When a person shows you who they are, believe them.” But, alas, my son believes in a kinder, gentler nation and agreed to meet with her. I told him if he was on meeting with her do me a favor and alone. He agreed to girlfriend with him.

I’m proud of my son and how he handled the situation. If nothing else “Real Estate Gina” will n think twice next time. If not she will forever know she swung at the wrong fly this time.

In 2017, six civic-minded ladies with a passion for tennis and an intense desire to give back formed an organization to positively impact youth who might otherwise never have an opportunity to play their beloved sport of tennis. These sisters who adored the sport of tennis and all it represents became the essence of what began Sisters4TheLoveOfTennis. What started with their initial “love” donations has grown into a full-fledged program whose mission is to afford deserving, yet under-served youth, with an opportunity to be exposed to tennis and to qualify for scholarships and tuition assistance for camps to help facilitate player development.
Sisters4TheLoveOfTennis (S4TLOT), Columbus Regional Tennis Association (CORTA) and Cooper Creek Tennis Center (CCTC) will host the Larry Mims Tennis Classic August 22nd – 25th at Cooper Creek. This is a tennis benefit to raise money/donations to support the CORTA Youth Program which supports the advancement of under-served youth by providing opportunities through
tennis and project-based education. This tournament is named in memory of Coach Larry Mims, local legend and pillar in the Columbus tennis community, who passed in 2006 of heart complications.
“Larry would be so honored to know of his lasting impact on his beloved game of tennis and the youth he was so passionate about,” said Pino Wells, a founding member of S4TLOT. “I believe
we have potential right here in Columbus to have another youth like CoCo Gauff to rock the tennis world”. Fellow S4TLOT member Pamela Williams continued, “A player can qualify to play in any one of the tournament events by simply selecting the event they want to register for. This a not a sanctioned tournament, and player(s) may only register for a total of 2 events (i.e. singles/doubles,

By Wane A. Hailes The Courier On July 22, 2016 just two weeks into being enrolled at Columbus State University Nneka Brown had an epiphany.
“I always liked back to school supplies and now that I’m going to school, I felt it was important to get the right tools that would help me throughout the semester. One of the tools would be notebooks, but when I went into the store, there wasn’t much for me to choose from,” Brown says. “So, I created a couple concepts in my mind and I had them produced and I was blown away by how good they looked. I knew this was something that other people would love as well.” Five days later, on July 27, 2016, the former U.S. Army sergeant and Human resources specialist launched her Blackowned online retail store providing a collection of school supplies celebrating modern and historic moments in African American culture. She sold over 8,000 orders of custom-made notebooks in 24 hours. She immediately dropped out of school and Innovative Supplies Worldwide, Inc. was founded. One year later she has sold over 20,000 notebooks with sales in Singapore, South Korea, Canada and the UK.
Brown appeared on the reality TV Show Entrepreneur Elevator Pitch. She was seeking $1000,000 for marketing, office space and to obtain the services of a CPA (Certified Public Accountant). She didn’t receive the money during her visit, however, Dave Meltzer, CEO Sports 1 Marketing and S1 Media House offered to be her business coach after which she can come back and pitch her product again. Nneka noted the opportunity to pitch her product to “Shark Tank” type of investors was exciting.
Nneka was selected as an awardee of the Class of 2018 40 under 40 as an emerging leader in the gifts and stationery industry by demonstrating exceptional commitment, innovation and creativity.
She recently celebrated three years in business with a preview of her 2019 product collection. From just a small idea to a company making the news and selling hundreds of thousands of notebooks, there is much to be celebrated.
