IA note from the managing director
t’s hard to believe that a decade has flown by since we first started bringing together the visionaries and leaders in luxury travel. This year, we celebrate 10 years of Connections Luxury – a community that has flourished because of your passion and support.
On a personal note, I’m thrilled to share that my wife and I have recently welcomed a new addition to our family – our daughter, Oriana. Her arrival has been a beautiful reminder of the importance of creating special memories, something we aim to do with every event and experience we offer.
In this special edition of Connections Luxury Magazine, we’ve gathered some of the most exciting destinations and themes from our partners and members around the world. From the sun-kissed landscapes of California (page 6) to the cinematic allure of set-jetting (page 20), our pages are brimming with inspiration.
Discover serene retreats designed for ultimate relaxation (page 72) and explore the latest insights in luxury marketing (page 58). We also indulge in culinary delights from across the globe (page 32), with a special focus on Food for the Seoul (page 66).
Looking back over the past 10 years, I feel incredibly grateful for our Connections Luxury community. Your enthusiasm and commitment have driven us to keep improving and innovating. We’re dedicated to giving back to our community, making our events even better, and offering more value to the luxury travel industry.
Over the next year we will be launching new initiatives, taking our members to countries new to the Connections Way. With the rise of AI, digital and remote work, we are going to double down on our mission to help you connect, communicate and book with confidence.
Thank you for being a vital part of our journey. It has always been our pleasure to connect you with fellow industry leaders and be part of your continued success. Here’s to celebrating 10 fantastic years of Connections Luxury and to many more amazing adventures together.
From sun-drenched coastlines to heart-pounding adventures and the allure of vibrant cities, this is a land waiting to be explored.
The Golden Gate Bridge might be Northern California’s most recognisable landmarks, but in the state’s south, it’s the 45ft-tall whitewashed metal sign affixed to the Hollywood Hills.
Hollywood is all about the movie stars and high-end lifestyles, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre and the chance to see the iconic Hollywood sign up close.
As well as the nightlife, and late-night bars, there are live shows to catch at the Hollywood Bowl and trails in the Hollywood hills and Griffith Park.
South of Hollywood, the coastal city of Newport Beach is all about the beaches, surfing and luxurious lifestyle. Here you can surf in the morning, explore the newly reinvented and highly sculptural Orange County Museum of Art and dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant in the evening.
Alfresco restaurants are dotted around Newport Harbour, where electric Duffy boats sit alongside multi-billion dollar yachts, and locals drink rosé while wearing flip-flops at the laidback, beach bars. The Pacific Coast Highway cuts through the city, making it a good stopover on a trip along the Californian coast.
Stay at The Resort at Pelican Hill, a five-star Italianinspired hotel with Pacific Ocean views. With Tuscaninspired architecture, cypress trees and lavender, Pelican Hill extends out over 504 acres of manicured gardens and boasts a luxurious spa, the iconic, circular saline Coliseum Pool, flanked by Roman-style columns, and two golf courses designed by US golf course designer Tom Fazio.
A 25-minute drive from Hollywood and Universal Studios, Santa Monica brims with beach town soul. The salty swells, wheel-weaving boardwalk and bohemian bars serving craft cocktails never disappoint. You can slow the pace with sand between your toes, or speed it up and cycle for miles on the bike path along the shore.
The Regent Santa Monica Beach opens this summer on a prized stretch of sand bringing with it a restaurant from heralded chef Michael Mina, a cafe and boutique from actress Ayesha Curry, a 10,000-square-foot Guerlain Wellness Spa, an oceanfront pool deck and beach butler service.
Slo Cal
Nestled between the bohemian San Francisco to the north, and glitzy LA to the south, San Luis Obispo County - or Slo Cal as it’s known – boasts golden sand beaches, rolling hills, vineyards and wildlife, plus 80 miles of coastline.
Tourists have been flocking to the Slo Cal city of Paso Robles for centuries, lured first by its hot springs and more recently by its fine wines. Come for tours of the 250 tasting rooms, or the fine wine trail that winds through vineyards to the early 20th century Hearst Castle, a decadent and meticulously preserved hilltop estate.
In Central California, the quaint towns of Santa Barbara and Carmel-by-the-Sea exude old-world charm and luxury. Visitors will want to explore the Spanish colonial architecture of Santa Barbara’s downtown area or hire a bike and cycle between 30 different wineries on the town’s urban wine trail.
Head north of Santa Barbara to explore the mountainous landscape of Los Padres National Forest, home to mule deer, raccoons, coyotes and birdlife among the pine trees.
San Jose, one of the biggest cities in the US, is a good base for visiting Californian wineries and two of the world’s most prestigious universities, Stanford and University of California, Berkeley.
San Jose has the added benefit of being one of the most affordable places to stay, which leaves visitors with plenty of money to enjoy a night on the town and some of the local brew from Gordon Biersch Brewing Company, located in Japantown, just 10 minutes from downtown San Jose.
The Gordon Biersch Night Market, held every Thursday evening during the summer, is also worth a visit for its live music and food trucks.
In San Francisco, it’s easy to spend three or four days taking in the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf –with its sea lion colony at Pier 39, the marooned former prison of Alcatraz and the streets of Chinatown.
Take a ride up and down the city’s steep streets in the iconic open-sided cable cars and hire a bike and ride across the Golden Gate Bridge followed by lunch in one of the waterfront restaurants of the Mediterranean-style Sausalito, known for its luxury
accommodation, acclaimed chefs at farm-to-table restaurants and art galleries. Go fancy at the Fairmont San Francisco or frills-free with The Cartwright or The Handlery. Of course, this being San Francisco, there are plenty of eye-catching hotels, too – try Hotel Emblem or Hotel Zephyr to mingle with a funkier crowd.
Napa Valley
And if you’re in San Francisco, then you won’t want to miss out on a trip to Napa County – home to hundreds of hillside vineyards in the Napa Valley wine region.
Park the car, flick the ‘slow travel’ switch and take the Napa Valley Wine Train to explore an immersive epicurean journey through one of the world’s most celebrated winegrowing regions.
There’s a variety of journeys to experience, from the day-time ride passing iconic vineyards – such as Charles Krug, Opus One and Beaulieu Vineyard’s Georges de Latour Private Reserve – or a romantic twilight dinner, that winds through the wineries.

West Hollywood, or WeHo in pop culture speak, is located six miles west of Downtown Los Angeles. A pot pourri of cutting-edge art, showbiz glam, eclectic dining and LGBTQIA+ hotspots, the law of the land is — work hard and party harder! Join us as we take you through this scintillating SoCal district, boasting a rich mix of marvellous walks and celebrity sightings
Broadly speaking, WeHo comprises three major neighbourhoods — Design District, Sunset Strip and Santa Monica Boulevard.
Upscale shopping feels nothing less than an adventure sport at Design District, which is nestled between Melrose Avenue and Beverly Boulevard. With more than 200 stores, including high-end designers such as Stella McCartney, Christian Louboutin and Moschino, it’s a magnet for celebs and fashionistas alike. The 1.6 million sq ft Pacific Design Centre is a one-stop-shop for all things interior design.
Fans of TV reality show Vanderpump Rules will recognise SUR, the restro-lounge famous for executive chef Nico Medina’s New American Cuisine. The dazzling nightlife of Sunset Strip is catnip for the young and the beautiful. Immortalised in classic films, including Sunset Boulevard and Almost Famous — this 1.5 mile stretch is practically a neon-lit museum of Hollywood folklore. Marilyn Monroe famously dined with Joe DiMaggio at Rainbow Bar & Grill, and The Whisky-a-Go-Go hosted artists and groups such as The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Elton John and Nirvana, among countless others.
For a more leafy respite, there’s Sunset Marquis. A pinnacle of luxury living for more 60 years, it boasts 152 villas and suites, cocooned within 3.5 acres of greenery and relaxation. Equally memorable is modern speakeasy Bar 1200. A short walk takes you to iconic hang-outs like The Comedy Store, for some of the hottest stand-up in town, and The Grove, an outdoor shopping extravaganza.
In the same vicinity, Mondrian opens its trademark 30ft mahogany doors to 236 spacious rooms, a Mayaninspired restaurant called Casa Madera, and a glitzy
Skybar. Epitomising sustainability, 1 Hotel West Hollywood oozes au naturel glamour with a rooftop herb garden and decor made of repurposed materials. Its heart is quintessentially Southern California, serving up farm-to-table gourmet at 1 Kitchen, and indoor-outdoor cocktail hours at Juniper Lounge + Garden.
Petit Ermitage is the hidden gem of WeHo, where storybook romance meets luxury. None of the 80 suites are alike, and the cynosure of all eyes is the rooftop — which features a heated saltwater pool and fireplace.
At the junction of WeHo and Beverly Hills is Edition — a symphony of gorgeous artwork, lofty ceilings, modern design and profuse natural light. There are 140 rooms, 48 suites and two penthouses.
Santa Monica Boulevard is WeHo’s joyous LGBTQIA+ hub. Dance the night away at Revolver Video Bar, hobnob over cocktails and chartbusters at The Abbey, and see avant-garde theatre, music, and spoken word at Highways Performance Space.
While you can always hike up the famous Mount Lee to see the iconic Hollywood sign up close, there’s nothing more luxurious than viewing it from the air on a private helicopter ride. Several companies offer various packages – many with delightful cocktail brunches and sunset picnics. Experience incredible vistas and get a bird’s-eye view of this world-renowned historical landmark.

What’s a typical day like for you?
As the team leader for Shutters on the Beach and Hotel Casa del Mar, my days involve strategic planning, staff motivation and hands-on management. I begin early with property tours, engaging directly with our team and guests. This is followed by meetings and brainstorming sessions with our Executive Committee, community leaders and owners, where we focus on maintaining our hotels as leaders in luxury and community stewardship in Santa Monica.
What motivates you?
I thrive on competition, striving for excellence and delivering unforgettable guest experiences in luxury travel. Continuous innovation is key to staying relevant and I’m dedicated to leading industry conversations. I challenge our teams in culinary, sales, marketing and operations to be creative, enthusiastic, authentic and focused on delighting our guests.
What advice do you have for aspiring leaders?
For those aspiring to lead in the luxury hotel sector, my key piece of advice is to remain relentlessly focused on the guests and employees. Understanding your clientele and personalsing their experiences while fostering a caring work environment are what make a hotel truly exceptional.
What is your most recent accomplishment?
I am most proud of all strong relationships we have built within the travel community throughout the years. It is always gratifying to see bookings from travel agencies that have just discovered Shutters and Casa, as well as those who have supported us throughout the years.
How do you unwind after a busy day?
After a busy day, I find solace and recharge in the natural beauty of Southern California. Running, cycling and swimming along the expansive coastline not only keeps me physically fit but also provides a mental reset. When I’m not exploring other luxury destinations with my family, the beach is my ideal escape.
What’s a typical day like for you?
There are no typical days that is the key. As a hands-on leader with a strong focus on clients, my first priority is addressing any client requests or issues. In addition to this, I handle training, collaborate with my team on product discussions and engage in strategic development. Given my frequent travel schedule, I conduct inspections and client calls while on the move, managing these responsibilities effectively from the road.
What motivates you?
I am driven by challenges and thrive on pushing boundaries at Aracari. Leading the company allows me to explore innovative approaches and unconventional methods, keeping me engaged and passionate about our goals.
What advice do you have for aspiring leaders?
To think outside the box. It may sound like a cliché, but it is very important to innovate, especially in a fast-moving environment such as the one we live in today with so many technological innovations constantly disrupting our ecosystem.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am proud that Aracari is thriving, 27 years after its foundation. Having a strong brand that delivers its brand promise consistently based on its values – authenticity, personalisation, knowledge, innovation, simplicity and integrity – is what I am most proud of.
How do you unwind after a busy day?
I find fulfilment in a variety of activities. Spending time with friends, reading, going to the theatre, walking my dog or doing sport. These diverse interests enrich my life and keep me balanced.
founder director of corporate & leisure sales
What’s a typical day like for you?
As the director of corporate & leisure sales, my day begins in my Florida home office with coffee and emails, then transitions to strategising and pursuing new business leads. I collaborate with local and West Coast teams, the Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau and international sales reps, while juggling a busy travel schedule and enjoying evenings with my children.
What motivates you?
I have discovered the single greatest factor that motivates me to sell comes from knowing the product I am offering clients is a top-tier luxury experience that will give my clients the amazing time they deserve. With established foundational tools, I trust my experienced on-property team to consistently deliver and execute high service standards.
What advice do you have for aspiring leaders?
I recently mentored a college-aged family member at a client event we hosted, which was deeply rewarding. My passion for mentoring stems from my mother, who spent 40 years in hospitality and taught me first hand. Shadowing her at events and in the office as a teenager gave me invaluable knowledge for excelling in my first front desk job.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Last year, while staying in The Huntley’s presidential suite I identified ways to enhance the guest experience. Sharing this feedback with management led to improvements, reinforcing our commitment to exceptional customer service. I take pride in representing The Huntley and its dedication to exceeding expectations.
How do you unwind after a busy day?
I enjoy watching Florida sunsets while walking, cooking, or swimming with the grill fired up! Working from home allows me to spend time on the phone hearing about each team member’s day, helping me stay connected with the them.
What’s a typical day like for you?
I thrive on being healthy, maintaining a positive attitude and having a routine. My day starts with the best local coffee, reading uplifting messages and giving myself an opportunity to enjoy the stillness of the morning. Once I’m fully ready to go, I set daily goals and “to-dos” and get started!
What advice do you have for aspiring leaders?
I have found success in my luxury travel business in a number of ways. Building strong relationships with luxury suppliers and networking extensively in the sector form the foundation of my business. Staying informed through continuous study, attending virtual and in-person presentations and networking with luxury agents are crucial. Demonstrating the lifestyle I promote to clients is essential, ensuring consistency in all aspects and staying connected to my purpose—why I engage in this work daily.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I thrive on creating bookings that resonate with my clients. Understanding their preferences, I design experiences that exceed expectations with surprises such as tuk-tuk rides through ancient cities, visits to boutique cheese farms and gourmet picnics in beautiful gardens. Finding exceptional accommodation ensures each day is filled with unforgettable moments for my clients.
How do you unwind after a busy day?
After a long day, I unwind with a brisk walk, followed by diving into a good novel by my pool with a refreshing drink. I cap it off by cooking something delicious or ordering in—a perfect day for me!
Why is the Americas region a must-visit destination?
I’m captivated by the Americas region for travel, with diverse landscapes from majestic mountains to vibrant rainforests. North America offers natural beauty and culinary diversity, while Central and South America boast history, stunning landscapes and vibrant cultures, providing endless possibilities for exploration.
Winnie excels in strategic planning and creative execution. As the head of events, she leads a dedicated team to ensure we consistently deliver the best for our members. We caught up with her to learn more about her journey from moving to San Francisco to joining Connections
Tell us about your background and how you progressed to your current role at Connections Luxury.
I was born and raised in Hong Kong before moving to the United States to complete high school and pursue higher education with a focus on the hospitality industry. After graduating from university, I began my career in Chicago and later moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where I built my professional network in luxury hotels and destination marketing organisations, and San Francisco became my home. In 2022, I first encountered Connections Luxury when San Francisco hosted the California Luxury Forum.
In 2022, I first encountered Connections Luxury when San Francisco hosted the California Luxury Forum. Working with the Connections team was an amazing experience, and I instantly felt a profound connection. A year later, I had the incredible opportunity to join the team, allowing me to expand my career to the next level.
As a leader, how do you inspire and motivate your team to achieve their goals?
Recognising that everyone is unique, a good leader’s role is to understand each team member’s strengths and adapt to their individual styles to help them reach their full potential. I encourage open communication, create a supportive environment and lead by example. My goal is to ensure that everyone feels valued and motivated, so they can contribute their best efforts toward achieving our collective goals. By implementing key strategies, I aim to cultivate a highperforming team where everyone feels respected, engaged, and inspired to contribute their best efforts toward our shared goals. Together, I know we can achieve remarkable success.
You moved to London from California. What aspects of the culture do you miss the most?
London is a diverse and welcoming city, sharing many similarities with San Francisco. However, I do miss my friends and family, as well as the sunny (and even foggy) weather of San Francisco. I also miss the vibrant food scene and the easy access to the ocean and mountains.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you gohat ideal place be?
Choosing just one ideal place is difficult because there are still so many places I haven’t explored. For me, every journey is an adventure, and it’s the element of the unknown that truly excites me about life! Each destination offers a unique story waiting to be discovered.
What’s your best travel advice?
Embrace the unexpected! It may sound unusual coming from an event planner, but sometimes allowing the universe to guide us leads to the most memorable experiences. Stay open-minded and indulge in local cuisine, even if it seems unfamiliar. Above all, remember to occasionally set aside your phone or camera to fully immerse yourself in the moment and savour the experience.

This style of travel is all about enjoying the journey, immersing yourself in your surroundings and connecting with people around you
After borders were opened and international travel returned following global lockdowns, rethinking why and how we travel has emerged stronger since the pandemic. We are searching for more sustainable ways to travel, enabling the journey to become the destination, and to connect with people and embrace new cultures along the way.
Train travel is a prime example of how a gentle pace and immersion in the surroundings can lead to meaningful memories. There are few pleasures that can compete with sitting back on a train, letting your mind wander while watching the landscape unfold before you.
South America’s extensive rail network is the ideal place to practise the art of slow travel, where train tracks cut their path from coast to mountains, through centuries-old villages with ancient cultures and customs that are hard to reach any other way.
One of South America’s most iconic train journeys is on Belmond’s Andean Explorer, which traverses the high altitude plains of Peru from Cusco to Arequipa via Lake Titicaca.
There are journeys from Cusco to Arequipa and in reverse. Starting in Arequipa gives you a wonderful taste of Peru’s colonial past with the Basilica Catedral de Arequipa in the Plaza de Armas and the Santa Catalina Monastery, an orange-washed complex known for its colonial art and architecture.
From here, the Andean Explorer whisks you to Puno, the city of Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable lake and home to Peru’s oldest indigenous group, the Uros people, who live on floating islands they made from totora reeds.
The final destination is through the plains to Cusco, the ancient Inca capital, where guests can embark on an onward journey to Machu Picchu.
The restored sleeper train evokes the mystique of the golden age of train travel through its interiors with patterned textiles, alpaca and vicuña wool blankets and framed pictures of Amazonian butterflies. The culinary experience showcases Peru’s gastronomy, with (cuy) guinea pig canapes, alpaca tortellini, homemade quinoa breads and dishes using corn and other seasonal Peruvian vegetables.
South America’s most luxurious train is the Hiram Bingham by Belmond. Its Pullman-style carriages hark back to the opulence of passenger cars from the 1910s, in keeping with the era of Machu Picchu’s discovery. Guests are welcomed on board by white-gloved staff and the interiors feature high-gloss mahogany wall panels and soft gold furnishings.
There are return day trips from Cusco to Machu Picchu that venture through the Sacred Valley toward the ancient citadel. The journey is toasted with a welcome cocktail followed by a brunch showcasing traditional Peruvian cuisine. Guests are treated to a guided tour of Machu Picchu followed by afternoon tea at Belmond’s Sanctuary Lodge – the only hotel with the privilege of being positioned by Machu Picchu.
Tren Crucero, Ecuador
Another way to explore South America via train is the Tren Crucero in Ecuador. From the Pacific coastal city of Guayaquil to the cloud forests of the highlands and the avenue of the volcanoes, to the Andean capital of Quito this is a spellbinding way of seeing the country.
Unlike most rail journeys that include overnight travel, on the Tren Crucero passengers stay in small towns along the way, rather than sleeper cabins, offering an ideal way to sample local life and culture.
Serra Verde Express, Brazil
Not only is it a marvel of engineering, but Serra Verde Express will offer guests exceptional scenery, as it travels from Curitiba and Morretes in southeastern Brazil and is considered one of the greatest train journeys in South America.
From tropical Curitiba, the train ascends through the Atlantic Forest – the world’s largest rainforest after the Amazon – to the colonial coastal town of Morretes, which is known for its incredible cuisine. Along the way the train travels through dense foliage, across towering bridges and along the canyon ridges of Serra do Mar.
The relatively short, 3.5-hour journey is packed with Brazilian variety including the lush green jungle landscapes of the Atlantic Forest and Brazilian dishes such as barreado, a herby beef stew from Morretes cooked in a clay pot for 12 hours.
The Train to the Clouds is a 15-hour round trip, departing from the northwestern city of Salta through the rugged Lerma Valley and climbing the Mars-like mountains of Quebrada del Toro to reach La Polvorilla viaduct in La Puna desert. At a staggering 4,200 metres above sea level, La Polvorilla viaduct often sits above the clouds, giving the impression the train is flying.
While not as lavish as other South American luxury trains, there’s still business-class-style seating and refined dining. The real luxury here is the glimpse into this little-known corner of Argentina. Stopping in local villages and markets along the way, you’ll meet the country’s few remaining indigenous communities, who welcome visitors with local crafts and food.
Slow travel via train puts into practice the philosophy of embracing the journey as much as the destination. Travelling via train becomes the destination and experience itself; taking stock of the landscape seen from the window and enjoying the excursions, the explorations into local villages, and sharing these experiences with each other and fellow passengers.

Location: Montserrat, Catalonia
The name Montserrat, meaning “jagged or serrated mountain,” aptly describes the sharp, striking peaks of this magnificent natural wonder. According to legend, angels descended from the heavens, wielding a golden saw to carve the mountain, crafting a divine throne for the Virgin Mary.
Set-jetting or taking a ‘location vacation’ is the trend of visiting places used as locations in films or TV programmes.
But it’s far from a new trend. Classic films such as Out of Africa with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford romanticised Kenya, while backpackers in Thailand searched out ‘the beach’ in Alex Garland’s cult novel of the same name, portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in the film.
However, according to Unpack ’24, a forecast report prepared by Expedia that predicts annual travel trends, more than half of travellers say they’ve researched or booked a trip to a destination after seeing it on a TV show or movie. And one in four admit that TV shows and films are more influential on their travel plans than they were in the past. The first two seasons of HBO’s The White Lotus drove a 300% increase in travel demand to Hawaii and Sicily, and Expedia saw a 200% increase in searches to Paris after Emily in Paris debuted its previous season.
The Netflix series Emily in Paris captured the imagination of viewers worldwide with its whimsical portrayal of life in the French capital –from chic cafes and haute couture to Montmartre’s cobblestone streets bathed in golden light.
The storyline may be full of cliches and stereotyping, but the TV series has done wonders for the city, serving up a mix of the wellknown tourist spots such as the Sacre Coeur and grande dame hotels, as well as some of the City of Light’s lesser-known spots such as the Musee de la Vie Romantique in Montmartre and Terra Nera in the Sorbonne area – the location for Gabriel’s restaurant, the setting for some of the most dramatic and romantic scenes in the Netflix show.
Set-jetters yearning to experience the enchantment of Emily in Paris first hand can head to locations and restaurants featured in the series, while the city’s luxury hotels and boutique apartments offer travellers the chance to immerse themselves in the same stylish surroundings that served as the backdrop for Emily’s adventures.
The two main hotels featured in the series are the Four Seasons Hotel George V and the former 1920s Parisian swimming baths, now Molitor Hotel & Spa.
The Four Seasons Hotel George V, located just off the ChampsElysees with large windows framing views of the Eiffel Tower, is Parisian classicism at its best. Molitor Hotel & Spa is an art deco complex on the western edge of the city, with bright yellow and blue painted rooms, overlooking a central swimming pool. Having first opened in 1929, for 60 years it was the most popular swimming baths in Paris, known for its two pools and avant-garde atmosphere.

HBO’s 2021 hit series The White Lotus whisked viewers away from Hawaii to Sicily for season two, where the azure waters of the Mediterranean provide a stunning backdrop for the drama that unfolds at a luxurious resort.
The cult series was set specifically in Taormina’s sprawling San Domenico Palace, a Four Seasons Hotel, against the mystical backdrop of Mount Etna and overlooking one of Sicily’s most photogenic stretches of coastline. The hotel has been home to royals, the literary elite and well-heeled gentry and prior to this was a Catholic convent.
Beyond the hotel’s sun-bleached walls lies Taormina, an Amalfistyle playground for the wealthy. An unmissable stop of the Grand Tour, the journey of the 19th-century European aristocracy, today Taormina is one of Italy’s most sought-after summer holiday destinations with cafes, restaurants and bars lining Corso Umberto, the town’s main street.
Restaurants such as the Michelin-starred Otto Geleng at Belmond’s Grand Hotel Timeo, Nunziatina, with its vintage armchairs, lamps and pillows, and typical Sicilian family-run Osteria da Rita, warrant a visit.
Head southwest towards the foot of Mount Etna and travellers will be able to explore fertile vineyards with daily tastings and horse riding through citrus groves.
Ireland: exploring the real-life Westeros
For fans of epic fantasy, few destinations hold as much allure as the rugged landscapes of Northern Ireland, immortalised as the backdrop for Westeros, the fictional land where the wildly popular series Game of Thrones was set.
Filming of seasons one to eight took place in about 25 locations around Northern Ireland including Titanic Studios in Belfast, Cushendun Caves, Murlough Bay, Ballintoy Harbour, Larrybane, Antrim plateau, Castle Ward, Inch Abbey and Downhill Strand.
Northern Ireland’s rugged coast lines, historic castles and breathtaking scenery is the perfect setting for the epic story, with all of the locations within easy reach of Belfast. And despite the final season coming to an end in May 2019, superfans can continue to relive it year-round as set-jetters.
From the windswept cliffs of the Giant’s Causeway to the ancient castles of County Antrim, Northern Ireland’s natural beauty has provided the perfect setting for the sweeping saga of warring noble houses and mythical creatures.
Castle Ward is an 18th-century National Trust property located near the village of Strangford, in County Down, Northern Ireland, in the townland of the same name. It overlooks Strangford Lough and is seven miles from Downpatrick and 1.5 miles from Strangford. The Georgian farmyard and lough shore at this National Trust property set the scene for Winterfell, the capital of the Kingdom of the North and the seat and the ancestral home of the royal House Stark. Fans can find the Whispering Wood and key scenes including Robb Stark’s Camp, the Baelor battle and when Brienne confronts the Stark men.
Fans can also stay close to the shore of the ‘Summer Sea’ at picturesque Ballealy Cottage or in style at the five-star Galgorm Resort & Spa. Nearby lie the revered beeches of the Dark Hedges, which today are among the most photographed landmarks in Northern Ireland – courtesy of Arya Stark, who fled King’s Landing along this ‘Kingsroad’.

What’s a typical day like for you?
In reality, my days are quite diverse due to frequent travel for work. When I’m home, mornings start with my main role as a mother, getting my daughter ready for school and taking her there. Then, I work from our properties in the scenic Douro Valley, collaborating with teams, strategising and exploring new business opportunities.
What motivates you?
My passion lies in the meaningful connections and authenticity of the luxury industry, especially promoting Portuguese traditions and quality service. Imagine a picnic in a Douro Valley vineyard, with a chef cooking traditional dishes over an open fire – a perfect blend of heritage and luxury.
What advice do you have for aspiring leaders?
Passion is crucial in sales; it fuels persistence and hard work when results aren’t immediate. Maintaining positive relationships at work and balancing personal and professional life is essential for a fulfilling career in our industry.
What is your most notable accomplishment?
The reservation I’m highlighting may not have been our most lucrative, but it was particularly meaningful due to outstanding teamwork. Organising an exclusive itinerary across our four boutique hotels in the Douro Valley, incorporating gastronomy, art, culture and wine experiences at our properties in central Portugal and Alentejo, showcased our seamless coordination and exceeded customer expectations.
How do you unwind after a busy day?
At the end of the day, my relaxation ritual varies depending on the season. In winter it will be relaxing on the sofa in front of the fireplace playing with my daughter and drinking a glass of Port. In spring and autumn, there will be a walk through the park in front of the house with a stop at the children’s playground. During summer, I enjoy taking a swim in the pool to cool down.
What’s a typical day like for you?
As the leader of a small yet expanding luxury travel company, I cherish the diversity each day and week brings. I make it a point to start my day no later than 6am, relishing the calm and quiet it provides. This early start allows me to be proactive before the phone starts ringing and the business comes to life. Typically, my mornings are dedicated to proactive tasks, while as the day progresses, I connect with my team and suppliers. In the evenings and late nights, I usually have calls with our clients.
What motivates you?
Luxury is defined differently for each person and there are luxury trends that keep changing. It’s a fast paced industry with high demands and that is what motivates me. I’m a person that needs to be challenged myself and to be growing.
What advice do you have for aspiring leaders?
Stay true to yourself, make connections in a genuine way and aim to help others not just try to get your way. Team up with and trust in people that are better then you, don’t be afraid of not knowing and not being the best at everything. Enjoy the ride, every small win and embrace the challenging times and “failures”.
What is your most recent accomplishment?
I’m proud of my team for delivering such an above and beyond service that clients have asked if we offer services in other countries too, eager to experience the same level of care on their future vacations.
How do you unwind after a busy day?
As a devoted family man, spending time with my wife and kids brings me the greatest joy. I also have a deep love for the outdoors and engaging in any outdoor activity fuels me with energy and inspiration. Whether it’s hiking, biking, or simply taking a walk in nature, these moments rejuvenate my spirit and energy and inspire me.
What’s a typical day like for you?
I wake up early as I’m an early riser, my mind already active. I begin with stretching and prayer, essential for a positive start to the day. I prioritse a healthy diet and carefully select my outfits based on the day’s plans to maintain my personal image. Once ready, I dive into work, staying flexible to meet the day’s demands as they arise.
What advice do you have for aspiring leaders?
Today, luxury is defined by the fusion of wellbeing, impeccable service and high-quality aesthetics. It revolves around evoking emotions and providing pleasure and comfort, which are paramount when serving clients. For future leaders, I advise prioritising superb customer service, continuous innovation and crafting distinctive, memorable experiences for clientele.
What is your most recent accomplishment?
Recently, I successfully enhanced my skill in organising a reservation for a diverse group of clients with varied needs, ensuring each individual felt exceptionally satisfied with the experience, which further solidified my ability to deliver outstanding service.
How do you unwind after a busy day?
At the end of a hectic day, I unwind with activities such as listening to relaxing music, dancing or virtually exploring scenic landscapes, envisioning my next adventure; a perfect way to recharge and disconnect for renewed energy.

The oldest independent country in the Arabian Peninsula, often called the ‘Switzerland of Gulf’, Oman is quietly emerging as a dream destination for brides and grooms from near and far. It’s also hailed as one of the most revered producers of frankincense.
From the sultry red-sand deserts of Wahiba to the luscious wadis (valleys) of Bani Khalid — the whole place radiates romance and luxury.
A wealth of scenic beauty
Aptly described as the Gulf’s undiscovered gem by Conde Nast Traveler, Oman teems with an undeniable, and often unexplored, treasure trove of natural beauty.

Strike a pose against a picturesque backdrop of the rugged Al Hajar mountains (home to Jebel Akhdar, the country’s wildest and tallest terrain) — and treat yourself to an enviable pre-wedding shoot.

Take your guests on a bouncy camel ride through rustic villages of the Bedouin nomad tribes. You can just as easily luxuriate on a glamorous private yacht, accompanied by nothing but the ocean’s lullaby.
Many of these yachts set sail from Muscat’s Al Mouj Marina promenade, and during the right season, even take you to spot bottlenose dolphins and whale sharks between Salalah and Musandam.
One-of-a-kind hospitality
Oman recently announced a whopping $11 billion investment in real estate and hospitality, signalling the launch of more than 80 new hotels. Plus, the country was labelled as the home of “the nicest people on the planet” in 2016 — with the kindest staff, always eager to help.

Bahrain is an archipelago of 33 islands. Here, Unesco World Heritage Sites tell the story of the ancient Dilmun empire, while glamorous skyscrapers of the capital, Manama, fill the skyline. The depths of its lapping Arabian waters sparkle with treasured Bahraini pearls. At the National Library of Bahrain at Al-Fateh Grand Mosque, it feels like the pages of history come alive.
Once merely a weekend destination for holidaymakers from the neighbouring regions of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, this tiny country has transformed into an incredible international podium, hosting big-ticket events, including Formula One’s exclusive Bahrain Grand Prix. This kingdom nation boasts a truly spectacular wealth of attractions, where every traveller is welcomed like royalty.
How to get there?
Being an important transportation hub of the Gulf, Bahrain has long facilitated travel and trade. With numerous flights, it’s undergoing significant expansion projects to draw international crowds.
Bahrain International Airport is located in Muharraq, 4.5 miles east of the capital. Major international airlines such as Gulf Air, British Airways, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, Emirates and Qatar Airways operate flights (many of them, non-stop) to and from various destinations, including the UK, Europe and the United States.
An arsenal of adventures
Gather around cosy bonfires or fire up barbecues under a canopy of stars. The Sakhir Desert turns into a playground for adrenaline junkies during the annual camping season.
For an especially memorable time, go kayaking through the Disappearing Island of Jarada. This hidden gem is an hour-long boat ride from the mainland and features a stretch of sand that appears and vanishes with the tides.
Retail therapy & cultural hotspots
Drench yourself in opulence at the many souqs dotted across the country. Al Qusayrya Market (a Unesco site), Souq Al Haraj and Manama Souq are famous for Bahraini pearls, precious antiques and gold.
You’ll find a cluster of shopping malls near Government Avenue in Block 301 and close to the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman highway along the waterfront of Manama. Among these, the most sought-after include The Avenues and Moda Mall, housed within the Bahrain World Trade Center.
Keep an eye out for Time Out Market scheduled to open at the end of this year in Manama’s City Centre Bahrain. This upscale food and cultural market is brought to you by the same teams behind the popular
Time Out Lisbon and Time Out New York. It features two floors of top-notch restaurants, chic pubs, art displays, breezy rooftop hangouts, cosy cafes and dessert counters. With about 17% of mall-goers being tourists, it’s the ultimate spot to mingle with travellers and locals over cocktails. Exquisite food, upbeat music and non-stop entertainment –it’s all happening here!

Each unit features fully-equipped kitchens and boasts stunning sea views from private balconies. The hotel is committed to sustainability with initiatives such as a ‘smart garden,’ which supplies fresh herbs and produce for its culinary offerings. Pamela's experience has seen her flourish and evolve into a seasoned marketing executive within Connections Luxury, where she has honed her skills in crafting compelling marketing strategies tailored for the luxury travel industry.
Tell us about your background and your career journey?
My passion for global travel began in my upbringing in the Philippines and deepened during my early university years. This passion led me to live in Taiwan for six months as part of an exchange programme at university and attend a summer school in Belgium learning about the European Business Challenges. Throughout my academic and professional career, I developed marketing strategies for brands such as Chivas Regal, Nicholas Simons, GH Bass & Co and Moss Bros, significantly contributing to their brand presence. Despite my love for the fashion industry, my true passion lies in the travel industry. Thus, I was thrilled to join Connections Luxury as a marketing executive two years after my graduation and haven't looked back since.
What have been your highlights at Connections Luxury?
My standout moments at Connections Luxury have involved exploring my beloved continent, Asia, with visits to South Korea, Japan and the Philippines. In South Korea, I immersed myself in beauty trends, K-pop and enjoyed Korean BBQ, topped off with a hike up Bukhansan, the country's highest peak. In Japan, a fam trip deepened my cultural understanding, while in the Philippines, along with the team I proudly showcased Boracay and extended my travels to Cebu, Bohol, Balicasag Island and Palawan – each offering breathtaking natural beauty and hidden treasures waiting to be explored.
What luxury travel trends have you noticed recently?
There is a rising demand for exclusive and private accommodations such as luxury villas and private islands, offering personalised services and a high degree of privacy. Additionally, luxury travellers are increasingly seeking remote and off-grid destinations where they can disconnect from technology and immerse themselves in pristine natural surroundings.
This trend reflects a desire for unique and immersive travel experiences that provide seclusion and the opportunity to explore untouched landscapes. Bespoke journeys are also gaining popularity, such as private yacht charters to explore secluded coastlines, safaris in Africa for wildlife enthusiasts and exclusive cultural tours in historical cities such as Kyoto, Japan. For those seeking adventure, activities such as heli-skiing in the Canadian Rockies, private expeditions to Antarctica or luxury camping in the Sahara Desert offer unparalleled experiences. These trends highlight a shift towards personalised, experiential luxury travel that caters to both relaxation and adventure in unique and remote settings.
What is your favourite destination you have visited and why?
Taiwan, pictured below, is my all-time favourite destination. While pursuing my International Business degree, I spent nearly six months living there as part of the programme. This experience profoundly shaped my understanding of cultural awareness and conducting business across borders. Immersed in Taiwan's rich culture and dynamic business environment, I gained invaluable insights and developed skills that have been essential to my professional growth. The warmth and hospitality of the people, along with the vibrant local culture, made my time in Taiwan truly unforgettable. This destination remains largely undiscovered compared to its Asian counterparts, which is precisely what makes it so unique and special. I look forward to visiting again!
Tell us something that people may not know about you?
I am deeply immersed in the disciplines of psychology and Buddhism, at times practicing meditation and studying the teachings of Alan Watts and Ram Dass. This journey reflects my ongoing quest to unravel the complexities of the human mind, believing in its remarkable capacity for growth, transformation and spiritual insight. Exploring these disciplines enriches my understanding of consciousness and enhances my personal development journey.

With more than a decade of experience in marketing to high-net-worth individuals, former Connections Luxury marketing director Gemma Watson shares her approach to transforming a marketing strategy to elevate a brand from underdog status to being a formidable competitor
A penny dropped when I realised that, in our world today, the concept of a “unique selling point” no longer truly exists. Our vast access to inspiration and the freedom we have to create businesses mean that genuinely unique ideas are becoming increasingly rare. But that doesn’t mean you still can’t become one of the best brands in the market.
What we need to consider now is the small (but mighty) percentages of difference we can create with our positioning, our purpose and our values. How can the brand become recognisable even if it doesn’t offer something entirely novel? Whether it’s through the exceptional quality of our product, the distinctive tone of our communication, the style of our brand or the positive impact we can drive to local economies, maintaining consistency and thoughtful execution can make us 5% better than our closest competitor, creating a powerful advantage.
Give it soul
Luxury marketing transcends the pursuit of transactions. It’s not about discounts, bonus points or simple product promotions; a luxury audience doesn’t want to be sold to. They have the means to buy anything they desire – so why choose your brand over another? What truly matters is the sense of feeling; the spark of desire that ignites when they encounter your brand. It’s the special experience your marketing offers that sets you apart from the rest.
This is where the art of storytelling comes into its own. It goes beyond showcasing destinations, product facts and amenities; it digs deeper, revealing more than what can be simply conveyed – by anyone – online. It offers your audience a deeper understanding, enabling them to gain insights into a destination while subtly conveying what motivates and defines your brand. In doing so, it fosters a more meaningful connection, leapfrogging their brand loyalty over that of your competitors.
This concept isn’t new in marketing, but it’s absolutely crucial when dealing with luxury clientele. Content is what crafts an engaging narrative and is the key to how you communicate your brand personality. High-quality content – be it stunning visuals, compelling stories or detailed guides – captures the imagination and sparks the desire. But this must be paired with impeccable delivery to truly shine.
No one should understand your audience better than you do, including which marketing channels resonate most with them. Your content needs to reach your clients in the right way; combining rich and valuable insight with a precise method of delivery. This results in three key outcomes: building trust and loyalty with your existing audience, attracting like-minded discerning travellers, and solidifying your brand’s position in the competitive luxury travel landscape.
No one should understand your audience better than you do, including which marketing channels resonate most with them
In the world of luxury travel brands, new clients are often generated through word-of-mouth recommendations, while loyal clients return because of their incredible experiences. Therefore, for many companies, social media is part of a trust campaign toolkit, providing a quick glimpse into a brand’s identity and the quality of service offered. It’s not always the main driver for sales, but is a sanity check for prospective clients before engaging or a happy reminder for those already converted. This is why my perspective has always been “less is more”. Thoughtful content will always be more effective than posting just for the sake of it. We all know the feeling of searching for a company on Instagram or LinkedIn and being slightly puzzled by little or no activity on a brand page. In such cases, it’s better to remove the account entirely until you can build a consistent presence that drives interest and - ultimately - conversion. Where social media can be exceptionally effective is with aspiring customers – the up-and-coming audience who have bookmarked your brand as their future choice. Keep it in your marketing arsenal, ensure it’s well-curated, but don’t stress about posting too frequently. Remember, with luxury travel marketing, quality over quantity is always the best approach.

From the turquoise waters of the Philippines to the neon lights of Tokyo, and Seoul’s ancient palaces beside modern skyscrapers, Asia is a continent rich in adventure, exploration, and tranquility.
Head to the Philippines and you’ll know what wanderlust hashtags are all about. Nestled in southeast Asia, this archipelagic gem is renowned for its breathtakingly beautiful waters, and a dazzling constellation of islands — 7,641 to be precise. Add to this an assortment of soulful curries and five-star splendour, and you’ve got yourself a holiday of a lifetime!
Venture beyond the country’s famed coastlines and it will surprise you with a whole spectrum of diverse, and often unbelievable, things to do. While staying away from its ivorywhite beaches seems unlikely, the Bud Dajo volcanoes of the Sulu Archipelago, the Hanging Coffins of Sagada and the rice terraces of Ifugao — a Unesco-listed site, all make for an adventure impossible to miss!
Cultural tapestry
Like a living museum, Islas Filipinas (the country’s former name during the 350 years of Spanish rule) preserves its colonial past. You’ll witness a glorious cultural scenery, intertwining Catholic traditions with a significant dose of Western influence. Here, in one of the world’s largest English-speaking nations, Islamic, Indian and Malay elements coexist harmoniously.
Manila
Known as the Pearl of the Orient, the capital city of the Philippines is a glitzy luxury destination, bypassed by many. With sumptuous five-star hotels and highend amenities, it has carved a new wave of glamour, giving even rival cities like Macau a run for their money.
Hit the jackpot at the many gambling and casino estates, including Solaire, City of Dreams and Okada Manila. Or, tour the agestained streets of Escolta on graffiti-themed Jeepneys (repurposed, brightly-hued Jeeps left by the Americans).
There’s no shortage of culinary delights. Unwind with exquisite wines and
Mediterranean tapas on the 45th floor of hotel Marco Polo and watch the whole skyline glimmer in the background. VIP guests can enjoy access to the exclusive members-only Macallan Whisky Bar in Solaire and savour rare single malts and hand-rolled cigars. Check out Bank Bar, a mysterious speakeasy, tucked behind a 7-Eleven convenience store in a nondescript office building in Bonifacio Global City, known for its signature concoctions and bar bites such as wagyu beef tacos and four cheese pizzettes.
Manila is located on Luzon Island, perched on the northern tip of the country, and offers more than just city life. Delve deep into its hidden, mist-shrouded towns, conquer the volcanic peaks of Taal and delight in spicy local flavours that Bicol’s remote regions are known to bring to the table.
Inviting you with mega-watt hotels, nightclubs and a four-mile stretch of white-powdered beaches dotted with bars, Boracay is the country’s undisputed party island. The dumbbell-shaped island was crowned the top island in Asia by Condé Nast Traveler’s 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards.
As the sun goes down, Boracay comes alive with live music, scintillating fire dancers, and a vibrant nightlife. Party your heart out at the Pawar Beach Club or enjoy a round of pre-drinks at Aqua Boracay Day Club before your big night out! You’ll love the infinity pool at The Lind, made even better by its decadent selection of sundowner cocktails.
Let an army of highly-trained staff spoil you with some well-deserved pampering at Tirta Spa. Overlooking the Crocodile Island of the Sibuyan Sea, it features rooms with koi ponds, manicured gardens, flower-laden outdoor baths and relaxing rain showers. Immerse yourself in a soothing signature massage, enhanced by the gentle chimes of a singing bowl cymbal and a refreshing cup of tea.
Bohol
Located in the heart of Central Visayas, an oval-shaped mainland, ringed by 72 picturesque islets, Bohol is the 10th largest Philippine island and a haven for luxury travellers. The iconic Chocolate Hills are the crown jewel. More than 1,000 cone-shaped hills transform with the seasons — from chocolate-coloured peaks in the dry season and rolling green landscapes in the wet season.
For an experience like no other, drive to the town of Maribojoc to board a kayak at night and marvel at the mesmerising sight of twinkling fireflies drifting through lush mangrove forests. It’s one of nature’s most enchanting phenomena, that some say may disappear soon.
Head to Panglao Island. The southwest of Tagbilaran is accessible by bridge, and boasts many opulent resorts. Cruise along the tropical Loboc River, and witness the historical sights of Tagbilaran city. For some high-energy fun, spend a day zip-lining. The heart-pounding activities at Loboc Ecotourism Adventure Park are sure to bring out the child in you.
Cebu
Also known as ‘the senior city’, Cebu was founded more than five years before even Manila and is the second most-populous in the country. Its capital, Cebu City, promises an array of things to do, from ultra-glam hotels to magnificent rolling hills.
Come January, and the whole region transforms into a riot of colours. Sinulog Festival is called the Filipino version of Mardi Gras, where you can savour its carnival-like atmosphere, don vibrant costumes and dance to traditional music.
Those who make the long climb to the watchtowers on Mount Busay are rewarded with stunning views of the city. Channel your inner Crazy Rich Asian by taking home a timeless piece from Cebuano, designer Neil Felipp’s boutique that was famously featured in the award-winning film.
Adrenaline junkies will delight in skydiving over Cebu’s Bantayan Island, where you’ll leap from a plane at 20,000ft. Down south, in the town of Daanglungsod near Oslob, you can paraglide and enjoy breathtaking views.

From Japanese tea ceremonies to Buddhist monks’ training, Laura French rounds up some of the best lesser-known things to see and do in Tokyo
From the eclectic streets of Harajuku to the serene gardens of Shinjuku via elaborate temples, soaring skyscrapers and a standout dining scene, Japan’s vibrant capital isn’t short on things to see and do. But it’s not just about the big hitters here, there is a plethora of lesser-known sites to explore. We’ve picked out some of the best alternative experiences for a luxury getaway without the crowds.
Explore the Kanda Myojin shrine
Tokyo isn’t short on striking shrines – among them the iconic Senso-ji, the oldest and mostvisited in the city. But for an alternative, pay a visit to Kanda Myojin; a pillar-red Shinto shrine first built in the eighth century and moved to its current location near tech haven Akihabara during the Edo Period. Locals and visitors come here to pray to three of the Gods of Fortune (enshrined here), and if you come in May on an odd-numbered year, you’ll witness Kanda Matsuri – one of Japan’s biggest Shinto festivals, featuring colourful parades, traditional music and plenty more.
See Tokyo from on high at Shibuya Sky
The Tokyo Skytree has garnered acclaim as the world’s tallest tower, with 360-degree observation decks at the top, but it’s not the only eye-popping vantage point in the city. Head to the rooftop at Shibuya Sky for panoramic views over the famous Shibuya Crossing –
officially the busiest intersection on the planet, where giant video ads sit above eclectic cafes, neon-lit buildings and bustling malls. Ascend at night to see the ‘Crossing Light’ show illuminate the skyline, or head to the bar to take in sweeping views over the glittering backdrop.

Join a Buddhist Temple Experience
For a true cultural experience, head to Tsukiji Hongwanji. On select mornings from 6am, this atmospheric temple hosts a special Buddhist experience visitors can take part in; donning a samue (traditional monk’s clothing), you’ll join an exclusive Buddhist ceremony, then work alongside the temple’s monks as they polish sacred temple relics. It’s followed by a live gagaku (music) performance, and a hearty, 18-dish breakfast featuring specialities from the region.
Immerse yourself in digital art at teamLab Planets
From the Nezo Museum to the Museum of Contemporary Art, you’ll find plenty in the way of art in Tokyo – but for an experience with a difference, head to teamLab Planets. This digital art gallery puts the focus on immersive experiences, using projection mapping, music and light and sound effects so you become part of the work. Especially mesmerising are the water rooms, where visitors walk barefoot through real water, surrounded by colourful koi and flower projections that change according to the onlookers’ movements.
5
Take part in a traditional tea ceremony
No visit to Tokyo would be complete without experiencing a traditional tea ceremony. Visit Happo-en Garden to enjoy this experience in one of the capital’s most picturesque settings. From its historic teahouse, you’ll learn how to prepare a traditional Japanese brew, before tasting the fruits of your work. Afterwards, wander the garden’s winding paths between 500-year-old bonsai trees, colourful flowers and wooden bridges. Visit during the cherry blossom season – between late March and early April – to see its lush-green carpets cloaked in pink, and discover the true charm of this vibrant, captivating city.
6
Take an Edo river cruise in Nihonbashi
Crossed by a network of shimmering waterways, the Nihonbashi district has become one of Tokyo’s glitziest neighbourhoods, with shiny skyscrapers and high-end boutiques meeting historic shrines and fascinating museums. Private riverboat cruises are on available if you’re interested in seeing the sights from the water, taking you beneath some of the city’s most famous bridges – especially magical when night falls, as the skyline lights up and reflections dapple the river.
Conrad Tokyo: Located right in the heart of the city – a stone’s throw from the stylish Ginza district – this standout spot boasts a 29th-floor spa overlooking the skyline alongside award-winning restaurants, an indoor pool and some of the largest rooms in Tokyo.
Hotel New Otani: Set in a picturesque, 400 year-old garden – once the property of samurai lords – this elegant, centrally located hotel offers a peaceful respite from the city with an outdoor pool, spa and two restaurants among the draws.
The Capitol Hotel Tokyu: A five-minute drive from the Imperial Palace, this sleek property was designed by architect Kengo Kuma and is home to three restaurants, a spa, a 14th-floor pool, as well as stylish, comfortable rooms with fantastic views.
Shangri-La Tokyo: Situated right opposite the Imperial Palace, Tokyo’s Shangri-La lays claim to an exceptional location, and boasts a 20-metre heated pool, CHI spa and sweeping, floor-to-ceiling windows – on a clear day you might even glimpse Mount Fuji rising majestically in the distance.

After a busy day, enjoying tasty food and drinks helps me unwind. Whether it’s a quick drink at a local bar or a casual chat with our team, it’s a great way to relieve stress. And soaking in a bath with soothing bath products is another essential way to relax.
What’s a typical day like for you?
I’m an early riser who believes in starting the day with clear intentions. My mornings begin with a check-in with my mother, the founder of our agency, who is based in Mexico. Staying connected with her helps keep our business aligned and running smoothly. After that, I make exercise a priority, as it not only boosts my energy levels, but also sharpens my focus throughout the day.
What advice do you have for aspiring leaders?
My top advice is to prioritise the client, understanding their needs, desires and managing their expectations. Building strong relationships with your DMCs, suppliers and hotels is crucial. Additionally, focus on continuous improvement, embrace innovation and maintain clear and open communication with your team and partners. Always strive for excellence in service delivery and be adaptable to changes in the industry.
What is your most recent accomplishment?
A client asked my mother and I to organise a surprise trip this year, giving us carte blanche! Their trust in us is a true testament to the relationship we’ve built over the past 12 years. Every trip allows us to work with outstanding suppliers who offer unique and unforgettable experiences.
How do you unwind after a busy day?
Spending quality time with my family over dinner, savouring a glass of wine and disconnecting from work is pure bliss.

As a holiday destination Australia offers endless options for bucket-list adventures, from diving the Great Barrier Reef and swimming with whale sharks in Western Australia, to climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge and learning to surf at the famous Bondi Beach.
Sydney and its well-known landmarks remain the picture–postcard image of Australia, but cities such as Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane also boast extensive cultural and indigenous experiences, stunning beaches and vibrant arts, sport and music
scenes. And then there’s Australia’s food and wine –world-class wineries, exceptional quality dining and barbecues by the beach. From southeast Asian flavours by the seaside to a country Victorian restaurant where the produce travels from the garden to your plate, there are exceptional restaurants to be found in Australia’s cities and regional towns. From its cities to the outback, country towns to the coast, each region of Australia offers a variety of experiences just waiting to be explored.
With the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge, sparkling sun-kissed Sydney epitomises cosmopolitan sophistication, while multicultural Melbourne attracts visitors with its vibrant laneways, world-class coffee culture and eclectic arts scene.
New to Sydney is the £180 million extension to the Art Gallery of New South Wales, called Naala Badu, meaning ‘seeing waters’ in the language of the Dharug people. Looking out on to Sydney Harbour, this is Sydney’s most significant cultural opening since the Opera House 50 years ago.
At Big Esso, the First Nations restaurant in Melbourne’s Federation Square, Torres Strait Islander owner Nornie Bero serves dishes such as charred molasses, emu fillet and saltbush and pepperberry crocodile, proudly celebrating Indigenous Australian food.
Brisbane, Perth, Hobart, Adelaide, Cairns and Darwin all contribute their own distinct flavours to Australia’s urban mosaic with Brisbane’s riverfront promenades, Perth’s sun-soaked beaches, Adelaide’s thriving festival scene, Darwin’s indigenous culture, Cairns’ tropical vibe and Hobart’s art and creativity – see MONA, the hugely eclectic Museum of Old and New Art. These cities also serve as jumping off points to Australia’s rich regions, offering cultural attractions, new destination dining experiences and outdoor adventures.
A nationwide love for fresh produce and great coffee has firmly embedded an urban cafe culture across the country with innovative chefs and distillers, which makes for a thriving food and drink scene.
Australia is also incorporating native foods and its wealth of Indigenous ingredients into its menus throughout the country, taking advantage of its natural resources of vast seas, reefs, rainforests, mountains and lush green pastures.
Australia’s outback
Beyond Australia’s coastal cities is the iconic outback. This expanse of remoteness and big skies is characterised by vast red deserts, ancient rock formations, craters, salt lakes, tropical rainforest and a sense of timeless isolation.
Uluru - the sandstone monolith in the heart of the Northern Territory - holds spiritual significance for Indigenous Australians with nearby Ayers Rock Resort offering immersive Australian Indigenous cultural experiences such as guided sunrise tours of Uluru, the new Wintjiri Wiru drone show and Sounds of Silence dinner under the stars.
The Kimberley region of Western Australia boasts dramatic gorges, horizontal waterfalls and Aboriginal rock art sites, while South Australia’s Flinders Ranges offer some of the most spectacular hikes in the country. El Questro in the Kimberley is a million-acre former cattle station that offers hot springs, freshwater pools and soaring escarpments.
Darwin is the jumping off point for exploring the tropical Top End of Australia. In Litchfield National Park there are giant termite mounts, waterfalls and natural swimming pools; in Nitmiluk there are cruises and kayak trips through the soaring sandstone walls of Katherine Gorge; and in Kakadu National Park, activities include crocodile-watching cruises, seeing ancient Aboriginal rock art and admiring views over floodplains.
Visitors can stay in eco cabins at Wildman Wilderness Lodge nestled within the Mary River National Park and safari bungalows at Bamarru Plains on the edge of Kakadu National Park.
Australia’s vineyards
Australia’s fertile wine regions are renowned for producing some of the finest vintages. From the sun-drenched vineyards of South Australia’s Barossa Valley to the cool-climate estates of the Yarra Valley in Victoria, each of Australia’s wine regions boasts its own unique terroir and varietals.
The Margaret River region in Western Australia is celebrated for its world-class Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay; in Tasmania, the pristine landscapes yield elegant Pinot Noir and sparkling wines.
And Australia’s approach to wine tasting is unlike any other in the world. The country’s wine tourism industry is highly innovative with cellar doors offering free wine tastings and award-winning restaurants.
The d’Arenburg Cube in McLaren Vale, South Australia, takes wine tasting to another level – quite literally. Inspired by the complexities and puzzles of winemaking, the cube-shaped building was created over five levels to entice and excite the senses, with features including a wine sensory room, a virtual fermenter, a 360-degree video room and many other tactile experiences.
The Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia is a great collection of award-winning Australian wineries offering experiences ‘beyond the cellar door’ such as blending wines and sampling vintages from your own birth year straight from the barrel, to behind-the-scenes tours of historic family homesteads and degustation dinners. Helicopter tours will give you a bird’s-eye view of the wine regions while overnight stays at the wineries give you a chance to unwind and take in the scenery.
Australia’s coastline
Stretching for more than 25,000km, Australia’s coastline offers visitors an exciting playground of activities from snorkeling and diving, to kayaking, swimming with whale sharks and sailing, all against a backdrop of pristine beaches, secluded coves and dramatic cliffs.
