Sustainability building blocks
As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainable building practices, APL has partnered with the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) as a corporate sponsor. Building more sustainable projects both commercial and residential - is in the interests of everyone in the building industry.
Two measuring systems administered by the Green Building Council are the well-known Green Star rating system for commercial projects and the Homestar rating tool that measures the health, warmth and efficiency of houses and apartments. Commercial window systems feature in many projects which have been Green Star rated. For example, thermally-shielded high-rise glazing systems are part of the APL product portfolio. The Homestar tool assesses the full and final plans from which the home will be built, and then post-construction certification is carried out to confirm implementation.
We’re proud to say that our Residential Series, Metro Series and APL Architectural Series Ranges are now ‘Declared’ by the International Living Future Institute. It means we’re being measured by an industry-recognised tool that requires us to be totally transparent about our products. It offers specifiers the tools they need to make fully informed choices when selecting healthier products.

KOROK Building Systems NZ Ltd is a New Zealand manufacturer with 20 years experience in the building industry. KOROK has grown a credible reputation in manufacturing reliable fire and acoustic wall systems.
KOROK produces a 51mm and 78mm panel which provides a -/60/60 FRR and is ideally suited for the requirements of medium-density housing, due to the excellent fire protection and acoustic capabilities. KOROK also features a narrow gauge which reduces space taken up by walls allowing for more useable floor space within the home.
KOROK helps combat a concern of hearing the neighbours. For example, being woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of loud music or even a washing machine. KOROK panels are designed to give occupants peace of mind and are entrusted to reduce this nuisance. KOROK exceeds MDH acoustic requirements. This also gives the occupant the benefit of knowing that they themselves are not being a nuisance.
KOROK excels in fire protection. Conventional framed wall systems rely on internal linings for fire resistance. Penetrating these linings potentially destroys the fire-rated barrier. However, in the KOROK system, the main fire barrier is located between frames and is designed to protect the structure on the side opposite the fire. KOROK products exceed MDH design requirements of 30 minutes fire protection between shared walls and instead provide owners with the confidence of at least an hour of fire protection.
The construction details described in this new publication, provide a quick reference for assessing, designing, and installing fire rated junctions between KOROK® walls that directly attach to structural steel columns and beams without impacting performance of the fire protection systems applied to the steel columns and beams.
It’s everything you already loved and a whole lot more. Meet the new KOROK Gen 2 panel an exciting leap forward in wall system innovation. Proudly NZ made and owned, KOROK Gen 2 is stronger, better performing with improvements in green- friendly factory efficiencies. And it’s no slouch in the looks department either, with an appealing new low profile design.
Easier, faster, better value.
The new Gen 2 panel makes a good thing even better – across all KOROK 78mm galv wall systems. Installers will appreciate the flatter profile, which enhances direct fix lining options. The design itself delivers an increase in material strength. Add to that, streamlined manufacturing processes means you can look forward to smarter lead times and even reduced transport costs.
INTERTENANCY TERRACED HOUSING SYSTEM
SECURE, QUIET, FLEXIBLE.
Multi-unit construction projects, such as town houses, call for well-tested technology that’s simple to install. KOROK® Intertenancy wall offers the benefits of proven fire and acoustic performance, and the security of a solid wall design.
SECURE
KOROK® panels consist of a steel shell filled with aerated concrete. Having a solid wall provides peace of mind to occupants’ in the knowledge that they are physically separated from neighbouring dwellings.
QUIET
KOROK® panels offer superior mass over traditional timber and plasterboard or equivalent systems resulting in enhanced sound attenuation, particularly in the more invasive lower frequencies. This means that residents are comfortable in their own space without the intrusion of noise from other dwellings.
FLEXIBLE
Because KOROK® panels provide all the fire protection you need, you can run electrical and plumbing services on the inter-tenancy wall, without the need for special penetration seals around each pipe or light switch. This allows you the flexibility of placing a TV and kitchen where you want, and the ability to hang pictures on the wall without compromising the fire and acoustic resistance of the Inter-tenancy wall.

Southland Beech (Nothofagus menziesii) also known as Maple Beech. It steam bends easily, is lightweight and easily worked. It is suitable for all interior applications without the need for treatment. The current supply is from second crop rotation forest with an average age of 75-80 years, the wood has a very consistent lighter colour, similar looking to American Maple. To reflect these characteristics and customer preference, we market this species as Southland Maple Beech.
Maple Beech falls under the general classification of a medium density hardwood. Uniformity of density within and between logs is an outstanding feature of the Southland resource. once fully seasoned, Southland Beech is extremely stable, and less prone to tension wood, split, warp or collapse than other hardwoods. Beech machines well, with minimal sanding needed to achieve a high quality finish, and also stains, polishes, paints and glues well. Naturally resistant to borer, New Zealand beeches also provide an attractive option for consumers seeking a chemical free environment.
ModWood is designed with the end user in mind - there is no need for any staining, oiling or painting. ModWood will not twist, warp, splinter or split under normal outside conditions. ModWood is the only WPC formulated and manufactured ‘Down Under” to cope with NZ’s harsh environment and extreme UV conditions. Why would you choose anything else?
