INTERIOR LANDSCAPE
TERRA·For[u]m TERRA·For[u]m is an exploration and response to the shifting paradigms facing current and future technological hubs. The project lies on a post-industrial brownfield site just southeast of downtown Toronto. The intervention puts the traditional typology of the library to one side and instead allows the building to become something whose functions float gently between park, forum, community center, café, river walk, and other such social amenities. DRIVING OBSERVATIONS FOR FORM & PROGRAM 1. Libraries at large are experiencing an expansion of programmatic demand, but a blurring between departmental distinctions.
3. Innovation is best fostered through collaboration, discourse, and a shared passion for one’s ideas and pursuits.
2. Open access to modern resources is crucial for the socio-economic wellbeing and prosperity of a community and an individual.
4. People love coffee and great spaces to meander and sit.

With the recognition that the city of Toronto plans to expand and build upon this coastal brownfield, it became important to develop the waterfront in tandem with the interior portions of the intervention. By engaging with the waterfront, the building establishes a new public zone, and the city’s social dynamic may flourish in completely new ways.
The course of the project entailed several exercises with UR forms and other speculative design methodsparticularly a typology known as “Landform Building”. By employing such notions within our design process, we arrived at a built form that resembles something between a low-lying mountain ridge, and a system of lightly floating clouds. The expanse and gentleness of the structure creates a bridge between the water and the existing periphery of the urban fabric. It is a formal invitation for patrons to explore a once neglected waterfront.
Red Mountain Outlook Nestled into a steep embankment on the southern slope of Red Mountain, this dwelling perches itself over downtown Aspen. The home is driven by notions of duality in program, form, and feeling.
By exploiting views of the valley below through a volumetric splay, the home intersects with itself, and on both the interior and exterior, fosters playful moments of intersection.
While a great home feels timeless, it also supports change within and shelters over the unexpected. By embracing such dynamism, the dwelling takes on a life of its own.

SECTION PERSPECTIVES
TUBE YORK The Propositions Studio seeks to answer the question “what is the most important thing to be dealt with in New York right now?” Through a set of vector drawings and two provocative montages, this partner project sought to address sustainable initiatives in Manhattan. Partner: Adam Souhrada By employing a closed-system of retrofit infrastructure, our line drawings illustrate the scale, capacity, and expanse at which rooftop PVs & water collection systems might benefit Manhattan in an entirely passive manner.
KINETIC PLAZA
KINETIC PLAZA ACSA 2019 Steel Competition Submission The Kinetic Plaza is a modulated steel installation that passively activates urban spaces that are left empty and without character or function. Platform gardens raise and lower depending on time of day, plaza activity and botanical needs. As there are a myriad of hoops to jump through when it comes to construction in Chicago (much less any metro), it was important that the intervention be functional, self-sustaining and largely unobtrusive as to make for the best use-case argument.
Figure 1. Aerial Installation across from Chicago’s Pioneer Plaza, between SOM’s Equitable Building and Foster + Partners’ Apple Store. Configured for open market and vendor space on sunny day.
Figure 2. Lowered Gardens & Diagrams Installation optimized for meandering. Lowered platforms allow for interaction with plants, platform maintenance and seating.
Figure 3. Details Upper: Structural segmentation for prefabrication and flat-pack shipping. Triangulated steel allows thinner profile than traditional joist framing. Lower: Section describing interaction with water. Sensors within column bulb report and react to weather conditions.

White Oak Rocker This rocking chair was constructed in tandem with the design of the Red Mountain Outlook project in an effort to understand part-towhole detailing and tectonics through a project at the residential and human scale. The design is based loosely on Sam Maloof style rockers and massaged to a shaker style to fit the porch-centric nature of the home’s design. Construction took place in the ISoA wood shop, and, largely, just outside of my garage (as pictured). Subtle walnut details were incorporated to compliment the joinery.

Baseball Training “The Susan and Clint Atkins Baseball Training Center will be approximately 26,000 square feet and will include a large training space and an adjoining recruiting lounge. The training space encompasses an entire baseball infield with ceiling-mounted nets for hitting and pitching practice. The complex will be adorned with a new grand entrance for Fighting Illini Baseball. The $8 million facility will connect to the current clubhouse and locker rooms and should be completed by 2021. Via fightingillini.com
Demirjian Park “Demirjian Park will feature two new soccer fields, one for competition and one for practice, located directly east of the existing track and field complex, which will itself be renovated. The project’s centerpiece will be Demirjian Park Stadium, located between the new soccer fields and the renovated track.” Via fightingillini.com The project has since been handed off to RATIO Architects for completion.
