JACK ‘BROADFORD’ FITZGERALD Broadford is one of the craziest skaters I have ever met. With his long hair, that looks like it has never been washed, his metal music shirts, and blue jeans that he doesn’t change for days, and all the weird shit he does. Riding around screaming all the time, shouting weird stuff at you as you skate by, and saying the most random things, at the most random times. He’s 17 years young, has only been skating for like, 2 years and is one of the best skaters that I know. He’s one of those skaters that will skate anything and everything, street, bowls, even vert. It’s all he cares about, and he’ll try any trick that you say, he doesn’t care, even if he knows he’ll get hurt. This photo was taken at Wallan, it was a trick I just called out before we were going to leave the park. As soon as he said he would do it I got out my camera gear and set up. He did it a few times before I got the photo. He started just before the sun went down, and by the time I got the photo, he was doing it in the dark. He’s one of the most fucked up people that I know, but in a good way. Going on road trips with him are hilarious. Nothing but hammer’s going down and all the weird ass shit that he does to laugh at. Keep an eye on him, cos he’ll be making it to the big leagues soon.

GONE, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
“THIS IS NOT THE END” -Dnaiel Kirk
Bowl Riders Australia, run by Daniel Kirk is just a little indie skate shop that was always helping out the little guys in the skateboard industry, stocking all sorts of products from small local skate company’s.
took me there while on a skate trip, I’ve wanted to go back again. After riding the bowl that Daniel built in the back room with just the help of a few other dedicated bowl riders, all I’ve been able to think about are new tricks to get there.
‘Bowl Rider’s Australia has been a great supporter of Martyr Skateboarding..’ - Sean Zachariah Owner of Martyr skateboarding.
luckily I was able to go back, on the day it closed down, and have a sesh with with a few friends, and the owner. It was so sick to have this amazing bowl to skate, it’s pretty hard to ride but that just makes it that much funner to ride. Despite Bowl Riders closing down, Daniel is not discouraged, “This is not the end” is what he said
Unfortunately, the shop has recently closed its doors. Which is a real shame, ever since a friend
to me just before we left, and that after a year or so, Bowl Riders will be up and running again in a new location. I can’t wait to see what happens, I have high hopes for Daniel, and can tell that he will not disappoint.

Keenan Milton born in 1974, was a real respected skater for his time. Considered one of the best by so many of his team riders, and by so many other skaters from all around the world. Sadly to say, he died in 2001 when he overdosed on drugs at an Independence day party and drowned in the pool. Even to this day he is still respected by so many around the globe. That’s why HUF clothing and his old sponsor, Chocolate skateboard, got together and held the ‘Keenan Forever’ event in Carlton. With cash prizes, free merch and free food it was just a sick place to go watch some sick skaters and have some fun. Not to mention Anthony Mapstone MCing, which can only be a good thing. So many great skaters doing what they do best, just shredding and having a good time. Nothing but chill vibes and good music, what more could you ask for? Mapston, calling it like it is.

THE FALLEN LEGEND
Lincoln square, one of the most iconic skate spots in the heart of Melbourne. For years it has been the centre of the Melbourne skate seen, luring in skaters from all around the world.
more skate spots will be created and we will skate them. There is nothing that will stop us from having fun and living our lives to the fullest. Lincoln has died but that is all.
However, recently the Melbourne city council have decided to tear it down and reconstruct it into something that is unskateable. I guess they thought that if they take out Lincoln, then street skating will disappear as well.
Lincoln was one of the greats though, every time you go there, there would be a number of skaters, all trying to get some new tricks and find some new lines. All would be skating together, never making a mess or causing anyone any trouble.
So has this worked? Abso-FUCKING-lutely not. Lincoln Square is dead, but skateboarding is still alive and kicking. Skateboarding is not something that we just do for fun, to us it means so much more. Skateboarding is a way of life. If the council was expecting us to just lay down and give up skating, then they are dead wrong. As the city and suburbs around it slowly, but steadily expand, more and

Was it the skaters fault that Lincoln was destroyed? I don’t think so, I think that the council just got annoyed that we were being independent, and actually enjoying our lives. Instead of being slaves to the system, we tried to live our lives to the fullest, and they just didn’t like that.
The good old days.

Seymour, some dead end little shit hole town about an hour or so out of Melbourne. It has not offered anyone, anything of significance ever. I’ve lived there for about 5 years now and the only way I’ve found any of it bearable is through skating. It has been my only outlet that let’s me forget everything else for years now. Thankfully despite being full of a lot of messed up people, I found a few others that share how I feel about skating, (they’re still pretty messed up though) and over the years we’ve all gone around Seymour to skate all that we can find there.
THE PARK
Thankfully a year or so after I moved there, the old park they had was demolished and a new one was built. The old park was just shit, it was made of metal and was nothing but ramps. It was also a hang out for a lot of the dero kids in the town that did drugs and got into heaps of fights and shit. The new one is pretty sick, you got a street section with banks and a few quarters either side of the park. Plus, hubba’s and a rail in the middle of it. Then you’ve got the

best bowl around for ages. The whole park is so good to get lines at, you can just keep going for ages in the street section, Broadford just flies around it. Eventually though you get snaked by a scooter kid, or some kid that has only ever ridden a bike twice in their life.

Broadford is a dominator at the park, weither it’s grinds or airs he can do it all.

The school is probably the best spot around Seymour. Skaters have been skating that place for about 20 years at least. It’s got heaps of stairs, some banks, some ledges and a bunch of other things to get creative with.
THE SCHOOL
It’s been the best place to go skate when there are to many kids around the park. Unfortunately, they’ve stated to go into lock down mode, tall fences around the whole place that get lock every day. They just installed a heap of cameras all around too, so if your out of town, then it doesn’t matter. Doesn’t really stop us locals either.

ST. MARY’S
St. Mary’s is the other school in Seymour. Not as good to skate but still pretty fun, it’s got a few stairs, the biggest set is just a 5 and there’s a flower bed at the bottom, so it’s pretty hard to do. Then there’s a bunch of metal benches to get some stuff on, there pretty fun though, you can grind them, slide them, or just use them as a manual pad. Despite how many times we’ve been seen there, we’ve only been kicked out once. People that work there have walked out of one of the buildings, passed us, and said nothing.

THE GHETTO HILLS The ghetto hills in Seymour are gnarly to bomb. You gotta be careful round there though, the streets aren’t that busy but they lead to one of the main roads in Seymour. Also, the hills are the most fucked up part of Seymour, a lot of drugs and alcohol up there, all that shit. You have no idea how many times I’ve seen cop cars hanging around there.
Poor Tom, First time skating Seymour and he eats shit on the hill bomb.

THE TRAIN The train is defiantly my favourite spot in Seymour. It’s just something you don’t see in a lot of places, you defiantly don’t see it in Melbourne. It’s just 4 flat train carriages, so you got 3 gaps, about a meter wide each. On one of them we put a short bit of rail way track over it. That was fucking hard to move, it took 3 of us to move it and it’s wasn’t even 2 meters long.
Broadford, Kickflip.
You have to be careful going there on weekdays though cos there is the possibility of workers coming. Also gotta watch out when your skating it, the carriages are really rough, so if you fall, it will really hurt.
“DAMN, THIS IS FUCKING SICK!” -OLIVER MURPHY
THE OLD BOWL
This old school skater in Seymour is a die hard bowl rider. For years he has had a bowl in his backyard that he built himself, have no idea why his wife let him. He’s changed it a few times, but I’ve only ever seen it the way it is now. It’s fucking sick, concrete coping on one side with a vert wall in there too, it’s amazing that he fit it in his backyard. Pretty much any skaters that the old man meets at the skate park will get to ride it, so if your ever come to Seymour, keep an eye out for a 40-something skater.
Keep an eye out for this old dude if your ever in Seymour.
