01 conceptual analysis

MY current project is an exploration of the idea of closing the gap underhill house, Underhill Vt

between food production and its final destination. this design is a model for Making sustainably sourced and maintained food available while decreasing the footprint of the average home. I am focusing on the application and innovation of timberframing as well as the users perception of space and integration of sustinable systems. typical embodied energy chain TRACTOR CO2

03 ADMIRA AND BOSKO MEMORIAL ADMIRA AND BOSKO WERE TWO OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL VICTIMS OF THE WAR IN SARAJEVO. THIS PROPOSAL FOR THEIR MEMORIAL IS BASED IN THE IDEA OF DIRECTIONALLY ENFORCED MEMORY, DISSIPATING WATER FALLS AND CHANGES IN PERSPECTIVE that ENGAGE THE VIEWER AND DISCONNECT THEM FROM THE WORLD ABOVE.

03 SITE CONTEXT SARAJEVO, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA Originaly settled by the Illyrians for its seclusion, the Dinaric Alps have protected the valley of Sarajevo and had allowed many civilizations to safely flourish.

SECLUSION

Civilizations continued to thrive in the valley of Sarajevo due to the area’s proximity to a rich water source.

MILJACKA RIVER

HOT SPRINGS

CONNECTION TO THE REGION

Romans moved into the area attracted by the natural sulfuric thermal

Despite its geographic seclusion, Sarajevo remains connected to the surrounding

springs in the southwestern part of the Sarajevo plains. The area was

region through various growing cities and a complex road and river system that they

later known as Vrh-Bosna and housed a Slavic citadel from 1263-1429.

use to export cars, tabacco, textiles and furniture.

03 MEMORIAL BACKGROUND RESEARCH DRAWING LINES FROM TRAGEDY The pain of the war could be felt ALL over Bosnia. By intersecting these tragedies ON a point on the prospective site, one is presented with a holistic understanding of the weight of the atrocities committed during the war while occupying a single space.

03 CONCEPT THE IDEA OF THE PROJECT WAS TO USE WATER TO CREATE A SENSE OF TENSION BETWEEN TWO OPPOSING SIDES WHILE SUSPENDING THE VIEWER IN THE MIDDLE. THIS GIVES THE ILLUSION OF BEING CAUGHT BETWEEN TWO SIDES AS BOSKO AND ADMIRA WERE IN THEIR FINAL MOMENTS. ALLOWING CONTINUOUSLY FLOWING WATER TO FALL OUT OF SIGHT OF THE VIEWER REINFORCES THE IDEA OF SOMETHING BEING GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN.

04 ARS AEVI CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM

SARAJEVO, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

THIS PROPOSAL FOR THE ARS AEVI ART COLLECTION WAS BASED IN THE GESTURAL MOTION OF IMPACT AND DISPERSION. THE VIEWER IS GIVEN AN AMBIGOUS PERCEPTION OF THE LOFTED VOLUMES AS THEY APPROACH THE BUILDING. UPON ENTERING, THE VIEWER IS FORCED DOWNWARDS INORDER TO RE-ORIENT THEMSELVES WITHIN THE SPACE. THE VIEWERS UNDERSTANDING OF SPACE IS BOTH INTRIGUED AND LIMITED BY THE VARIOUS SEPARATIONS WITHIN THE EXPANSES OF THE VOLUME.

04 PROGRAMMATIC DIAGRAM THE PROGRAM FOR MY ARS AEVI MUSUEM PROPOSAL IS CENTRALIZED AROUND A FIVE STORY ATRIUM THAT ACTS AS A REVOLVING POINT FOR ALL THE MUSEUM’S EXHIBITS. THIS ALLOWS FOR THE VIEWER’S EYE TO TRAVEL BETWEEN FUTURE AND PAST EXHIBITS AS THEY JOURNEY VERITCALLY THROUGHT THE BUILDING.

05 LINER BUILDING

PARKING GARAGE ADDITION UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS, AMHERST

THE CONCEPT OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO MARRY THE PARKING GARAGE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS, AMHERST WITH A LINER BUILDING THAT APPLIED A PROGRAM SUITABLE TO THE CAMPUS. THE FACADE OF THE BUILDING WAS BASED IN THE IDEA OF A FLEXURE WHICH MIMICKED THE PLAYFUL STRUCTURE AND LIGHT-PLAY OF FOUNTAIN GRASS. THE GROUND FLOOR ACTED AS A “NOISY SPACE” BY HOUSING A STUDENT-RUN FOOD CO-OP. THE THREE FLOORS ABOVE FEATURE 10’ X 10’ STUDY PODS SUITABLE FOR GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL WORK. THE PODS ARE INTERCONNECTED BY 4’ BRIDGES IN ORDER TO PRESERVE THE EFFECT OF VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL PHENOMENAL TRANSPARENCY THERFORE CREATING A HOLISTIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE SPACE.

05 liner building model the ungulating wood flexures allow light to flow through the form AS THEY BEND SLIGHTLY AND PROGESS TO ONE SIDE. FOLLWING THAT FORM INSET WOOD IN THE FLOOR FOLLOWS THE FORM AND BRIDGES THE GAP TO THE NEXT MODULE.

09 COSTA RICA HOUSE

THIS PROJECT IS A PROPOSAL FOR THE OWNER OF AN ADJACENT BED AND BREAKFAST in san ramon, costa rica. tHE HOUSE ITSELF IS PROGRAMMED TO SUPPORT THE CLIENT, HIS DAUGHTER, as well as SLEEPING QUARTERS FOR SOMEONE TO USE WHEN WATCHING OVER THE HOUSE DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. THE FORM OF THE BUILDING EMULATES THE structure OF THE PASSION FRUIT FLOWER in the way that all of the program stems out from a central node. each part of the program was positioned so that its primary viewing angle was different from the other spaces around it.
