Maximizing Target Language Use: Why and How Free Online Seminar for World Language Teachers Organized by the Education Office of the Embassy of Spain in collaboration with Fayette County Public Schools. Presented by DR. FLORENCIA HENSHAW University of Illinois Urbana--Champaign
September 9, 2021 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm EST.
CONTENT In this workshop, we will start by exploring why pedagogical best practices tend to emphasize the use of the target language, and what that means in terms of the roles of other language(s) in our classrooms. We will discuss factors that may impact target language use, such as proficiency level, instructional context, and interaction type (e.g., teacher-learner versus learner-learner). We will then explore strategies for instructors to increase the presence of the target language, scaffold comprehension, and engage students in meaningful language use. This seminar will be conducted in English.
