La expatriación y las prestaciones del sistema de Seguridad Social Español. Pilar González de Orduña Cereijo. Secretaria General. Consejería de Trabajo, Migraciones y Seguridad Social en Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico.

En el webinario se dará información sobre cómo obtener la acreditación del derecho de la Asistencia sanitaria en viajes temporales a España. Se hará un repaso al convenio bilateral de Seguridad Social entre España y EEUU, explicando de forma detallada en qué casos se aplica para el reconocimiento de prestaciones económicas, como pueden ser las pensiones. Se informará sobre las prestaciones de desempleo, tanto el nivel contributivo como el asistencial, para los que retornan definitivamente a España.

Se analizarán las características del visado J1 y demás documentación de los profesores visitantes y se responderán sus dudas y preguntas.

11: 15 am – 12: 15 pm Entendiendo la cultura en el DMV. Carmen Fernández. *1 Ex-profesora visitante en Maryland. Actualmente profesora de secundaria en España. Cómo trabajar con otras culturas para no herir sensibilidades. Vida cultural en el área metropolitana de Washington, D.C.

Como sobrevivir el primer año: consejos y sugerencias. Christel Cazorla y Aida Alonso. *2 Ex-profesoras visitantes en Massachusetts. En la actualidad, profesoras de primaria y secundaria en España.

Ambas educadoras tratarán el tema de la declaración de impuestos en Massachusetts, compartirán con sus colegas estrategias y sugerencias para el éxito en las escuelas de estos estados y atenderán a sus preguntas.

From “Novice” to “No Problem!” Survival Tips for Teachers New to U.S. Classrooms

Teaching is a noble yet complex profession anywhere in the world. A teacher’s success in the classroom depends not only on pedagogical expertise but also on knowledge of the particular expectations and processes of the education culture, which can vary across and within national borders. In this workshop, teachers new to the U.S. public school system will become acquainted with the key structures and players in this system while also gaining practical knowledge of how to lead a classroom and relate to administrators and parents within this context. This presentation will include an overview of the spoken and unspoken expectations placed upon teachers by high accountability testing and linguistically and culturally-diverse school communities. Teachers will walk away with concrete classroom management strategies and routines as well as a deeper understanding of how to navigate the American public school system both inside and outside of the classroom. Dr. Jenny Jacobs works with newcomer immigrant youth at The English High School in Boston Public Schools, where she teaches English and Spanish Native Literacy courses. Jacobs worked for 7 years as a teacher educator at Wheelock College and Boston University after receiving her doctorate from Harvard University with a focus on bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural learning. In addition to her work as a teacher educator, Jenny has been a bilingual teacher, school leader, and literacy coach in Boston, Cambridge, New Jersey, Mexico City, El Salvador, Honduras and Seville, Spain. In each of these various settings, she has pursued advocacy for and collaboration with immigrant youth and families, especially from Central America and the Caribbean, with a focus on equal access to high quality reading and writing programs in their home language(s). Jenny is also involved in local advocacy and organizing for educational justice and has helped organize the Boston-area Educators for Social Justice Conference (besj.weebly.com) annually since 2011. When not pursuing scholarship and activism, she enjoys cycling and devouring young adult literature and graphic novels.. Garisbel Santamaría McDonough

was born and raised in Colombia. When she came to Boston, Garisbel studied Elementary education at Emmanuel College and completed her student teaching in a 4th grade Dual Language classroom. In 2006, she got her first teaching position as a second grade teacher teaching Spanish in a Dual Language school. The majority of her students were English Language Learners (ELLs) and she learned instructional strategies to support them. After completing her masters degree in Reading at Boston University, she grew a strong interest in Early Childhood Education. After that, she taught Kindergarten and First grade, and enjoyed providing research-based teaching strategies to promote second language acquisition in her Dual Language classrooms. Garisbel serves on the planning committee for the Massachusetts Association for Bilingual Educators.
