A Chapter 7 bankruptcy allows the debtor to retain certain exempt property, but the debtor’s remaining property is gathered and sold by a trustee from which creditors will receive payment. It may also be used by businesses which wish to terminate their business. A Chapter 13 bankruptcy enables debtors, through court supervision and protection, to propose and carry out a repayment plan under which creditors are paid, in full or in part, in installments over a three-year period. During that time, debtors are prohibited from starting or continuing collection efforts. The following bankruptcies declared by Calhoun County residents were recorded by U.S. Bankruptcy Court Northern District of Alabama last week:
Ashley Lynn Rich, 461 Anderson Ave., Anniston n Amy Marie Brookhyser, P.O. Box 858, Weaver n Johann Demetrius Cunningham, 6006 Sundown Pass, Anniston n James Ellis Moore and Vicky Lynn Moore, 2012 Lynn Rd., Anniston n Steven Gleason, 805 W. 42nd St., Anniston n Johnny Dewayne Martin, 575 Law Martin Rd., Piedmont n

Here are food service establishments recently inspected by the Calhoun County Health Department, along with scores. A score of 100 indicates the inspector found no deficiencies. Potentially hazardous deficiencies (four- or five-point demerit items) are noted. These must be corrected immediately and inspectors say they are often corrected while the inspection is underway. Restaurants earning below 70 must raise their scores within seven days or face closure.

10 horses killed Saturday in Decatur barn fire Associated Press
told The Decatur Daily in a story Sunday. “The rollup door had fallen halfway down, and when I tried to get to it, the fire was so hot it singed my hair.” He said four of the horses were being fed and prepared for racing next month in Ohio. The others were three mares and their six-week-old foals. “These babies were only 6 weeks old, and we had bred and got just what we wanted,” Drinkard said. “They never had a chance. It’s just heartbreaking.” He said another 20 horses were roaming a field and
DECATUR — Ten horses were killed during an earlymorning fire at a stable, including three nursing foals. Skip Drinkard, the owner of Drinkard Stables in Decatur, said he drove over to check out the barn after hearing two popping sounds just before 7 a.m. Saturday. He initially thought his grandson was shooting at a coyote. “I got in my truck to go see, and as I backed out of my driveway, I could see flames coming out of both sides and the top of the barn,” Drinkard
weren’t harmed. Flint Assistant Fire Chief David Brock said firefighters suspect an electrical malfunction started the fire, but it is being investigated. Drinkard said the barn was destroyed and he isn’t sure he’ll rebuild. He has owned the stables since 1985. “I have insurance but not nearly enough to replace what I had,” he said. “I don’t know at this time whether I’ll rebuild. When you breed horses a long time they become like family. Sometimes life throws you a curve ball.”
