Museo delle Miniere di Montecatini Val di Cecina La più importante miniera di rame in Europa tra il 1827 ed il 1907 La storia del bellissimo borgo medievale di Montecatini Val di Cecina è legata alla Miniera di Rame rimasta in attività fino al 1907 e che ha dato il nome ad una delle maggiori industrie del XX° secolo: la Montecatini S.p.A. divenuta poi Montedison; tappa storica nel campo dell’estrazione di rame. Gli Etruschi furono i primi a sfruttare le abbondanti risorse naturali di questa zona. Il complesso Minerario, posto a circa 1 km dal borgo, racconta la storia degli uomini, la loro laboriosità e la loro intraprendenza; sono visitabili le gallerie originali ottocentesche (il reticolo delle gallerie si estendeva per circa 35 km fino ad una profondità di 315 m), la torre di Pozzo Alfredo con il montacarichi “sospeso sulle teste dei visitatori” e dalla cui sommità si può spaziare su gran parte del territorio dell’Alta Val di Cecina. Il borgo minerario, ristrutturato ed ancora oggi in parte abitato, arricchisce di fascino la visita che acquista una suggestione unica durante l’apertura notturna. C’est d’elle qu’a tiré son nom une des plus grandes industries du XXème: la Montecatini S.p.A devenue plus tard la Montedison; étape historique dans le domaine de l’ extraction du cuivre. Les Etrusques ont été les premiers à exploiter les abondantes ressources naturelles de cette zone. L’exploitation minière est située à environ 1 km du bourg. Il témoigne de l’histoire des hommes, de leur travail et de leur courage; on peut visiter les galeries originales du XIXème siècle (le réseau de galeries s’étendait sur à peu près 35 km à une profondeur de 315m) et la tour du Puits Alfredo avec le monte-charge “suspendu au dessus des têtes des visiteurs”. Depuis son sommet on découvre une large étendue du territoire de la Haute Val di Cecina. Le bourg minier a été restauré et est encore en partie habité; il contribue de son charme à la visite dont il augmente d’autant le pittoresque au cours des ouvertures nocturnes. Le Centre de Documentation, au coeur du bourg propose un profil des richesses du sous-sol de la Haute Val di Cecina, ressources qui ont été utilisées depuis l’antiquité comme le cuivre, le sel gemme, l’albâtre, le bassin géothermique, la calcédoine, le lignite.
