Despite the setback restrictions and dividing wall between the two units, the interior of this two-story duplex unit surprises with its bright and airy ambiance. Abundant natural sunlight and ventilation permeate the space, aided by skylights on the second floor of each unit, which offer additional natural lighting. Distinct identities emerge within the units, featuring a harmonious blend of light and dark elements that complement their respective themes. Deliberately designed to avoid complete symmetry, each unit exudes individuality and character. Beyond its unique design features, this two-story duplex unit prioritizes functional spaces that cater to the occupants' needs.

On the first floor of each unit, spacious living rooms, dining areas, and kitchens provide ample room for everyday activities and socializing. The second floor accommodates the bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom. The skylights not only bathe the interior in natural light but also contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal. By leveraging setback restrictions and incorporating passive ventilation technology, optimal comfort is ensured while minimizing energy consumption, making this duplex unit both stylish and sustainable. Overall, this duplex unit seamlessly blends form and function, offering a comfortable and distinctive living experience for its residents.

Designing this 73 sqm rectangular rental office presented a notable challenge, primarily due to the presence of a 1.70 x 0.80 column near the floor-to-ceiling window. The key objective was to maximize natural lighting to boost productivity while simultaneously ensuring the appropriate segregation of public, semi-private, and private areas.

Within this proposal, each area was thoughtfully designed with its specific function in mind. The public area was strategically positioned at the entry point, accompanied by a neighboring meeting room that served as a semi-private space. The offices were located adjacent to the meeting room.

To foster an open and interconnected atmosphere while maintaining privacy, frosted glass partitions were utilized to separate the rooms, enabling the flow of natural light throughout the space. Considering the office's legal nature, ample storage space was intelligently integrated along the challenging column, providing efficient archival storage while seamlessly blending with the surroundings.

Furthermore, to optimize space utilization and ensure convenience for all users, a pantry area and open shelves were thoughtfully incorporated along the hallway. This placement not only maximizes the available area but also offers effortless access to the pantry and easily reachable storage options on the open shelves.

Busy Studio Passion Project 2021

Who's Busy?

Busy Studio is a design and build studio based in Manila. Their philosophy is to help people create meaningful spaces that forward sustainability, inclusivity, and culture.

It is also, the collaboration between Bashier Batara and Constant Cordial. Derived from their initials, the name "Busy" represents their shared vision. Their primary goal is to transform their ideas into various art forms. Bash and Constant, architects from Busy Studio, are deeply dedicated to incorporating Southeast Asian Sensibilities, Inclusivity, and Space Adaptive design principles into their work.

Southeast Asian Sensibilities

The brand is very personal in nature. It evokes a sense of tradition, southeast Asian sensibilities in particular, which is a new typology in the market.

Inclusive

Space-adaptive

Despite its determination to express, the brand remains to be subtle. Its intention is to blend in and reflect the context of where it is applied. This shows its inclusivity — being able to express in the same language as its time.

The brand aims to be accessible, interactive and collaborative. It appreciates the needs of its partners and stakeholders as much as it recognizes its own values.

29

Embracing growth and rejecting a singular identity, Busy Studio has chosen not to settle for a single logo or visual representation. Instead, they have curated nine visual keys, each embodying a facet of their philosophy. This allows them to cater to a diverse range of individuals and embrace a holistic, transdisciplinary approach to their work.

This is a collaboration project with Studio Jan.
