Mandhir Construction Company Limited was incepted in 1988 as small construction company by the late Mr Dhirajlal M. Ajmera and Mr. Manish D. Ajmera, to bridge the technical gap that existed in the then fledgling industry. Over the year, the firm has grown from strength to strength and today Mandhir Construction Limited is a full-service construction company offering a range of services including: General contracting, Pre-construction services, Construction consulting, Program management, Construction management, Design-build, and Concrete construction. We have the ability and resources to self-perform cast-in-place concrete and rebar placement, carpentry, drywall/acoustical ceilings, minor excavation and general conditions. From its home soil in Kenya, the company has undertaken major projects ranging from commercial buildings, hotels and resorts and industrial projects. Thirty years later, the multi-award winning company has become a force to reckon with not only in Kenya but Africa in general. “Since our formation we have continued to offer reliable solutions to complex customer needs in the industry,” begins Mr Manish Ajmera, managing director. He continues, “Over the years we have built an enviable reputation of delivering both small and 2

multi-million projects a phenomenon that has given us a huge competitive edge over our competitors.” Projects Some of the most iconic projects Mandhir Construction has carried out include Mara Simba Lodge phase 2 an exclusive tourist getaway in the Maasai Mara. The project involved construction of 42 rooms, extension of the dining area and other works. The contract sum was US$ 1.3 million. The project was undertaken in 1997. Ker & Downey Safaris Headquarters This project was on Langata South Road, Nairobi. It included office block, workshop building and guide bays. Exclusive Bungalows for Casabella (K) Ltd This project, consisting of eight executive bungalows featuring built-in hardwood cupboards, granite tiles and other superior finishes, was along General Mathenge Road in Nairobi. The roof profile was brought together with a combination of flat concrete and pitched roofs finished in Mangalore tiles. This prestigious residential development project is on Riverside Drive in Nairobi. It was completed in December 2011. It consisted of luxury three bedroom deluxe and four bedroom duplex apartments with a Miami-theme on a sloping piece of land. It is considered a mix of luxury, beauty, class and environmental sustainability all in one. (see Construction Review May 2012 issue). Refurbishment of Mara Safari Club In this project, Mandhir Construction added 15 new tents, a public area, swimming pool, septic tanks, electrical and plumbing works. The contract sum totaled US$ 3million. Flats for Focus Developers This project comprising 43 apartments is located along Msanduku Lane in Lavington, Nairobi. The project consists of seven blocks. Each block has five flats except one that has eight. The project includes a swimming pool, changing rooms, gymnasium, sauna and steam bath. The contract is worth US$ 2.2 million. Yet the success story of Mandhir Construction is more than the volume of projects they have undertaken. “We strive to deliver high quality projects that can stand the test of time. We are grateful that we have a team of professional staff that helps us in this front. We also have embraced the ethos of giving back to the society,” explains Mr Ajmera. For instance says Mr Ajmera, Mandhir Construction has been working with disadvantaged communities in Ukambani areas in Kenya to provide computer training as well as distributing modern energy saving jikos to those communities. “Apart from being a commercial entity we believe that we must support the disadvantaged in the community and by giving them training we think that this is one way to boost the society,” offers Mr Ajmera. It is this commitment to serve, that has catapulted Mandhir Construction to become one of the major construction companies in Kenya. In recent years, the firm has been awarded for

showing exemplary practice in the industry. “We have won Kenya top 100 mid-sized companies three years in a row. We have also been recognized for the SGR activities that we do,” says Mr Ajmera. “We are looking forward to winning such awards by continuing to develop our entire system of working. We are also making use of the latest technology in the field to offer cutting edge solutions to an ever changing market.” But even as Mandhir construction is optimistic about the future, 2018 has not been a good years for the construction industry in Kenya. Having experienced liquidity challenges

in 2017 largely due to elections of that year, the industry is yet to recover. “We continue to bank on our experience staff to execute projects in Kenya spanning smaller renovations to multimillion shilling projects. Our success is driven by more than building some of the most advance facilities for our corporate clients.” “We believe that the industry will bounce again. We are prepared to seek for big jobs when the time comes. But as for now we will be undertaking small jobs here and there to stay afloat,” Mr Ajmera concludes. More and more of our clients are returning to us for our distinctive ability to implement innovative project management techniques and to serve as a reliable provider of knowledge driven solutions for their complex construction projects.

“We believe that the industry will bounce again. We are prepared to seek for big jobs when the time comes. But as for now we will be undertaking small jobs here and there to stay afloat,” Mr Ajmera concludes.
