Program Overview Every year, the Consulate General of Mexico in San Jose grants a 5th grader of Mexican Ancestry with the post of Consul General for 24 hours. The recognition conferred is based on exceptional academic performance and remarkable leadership skills.
Background: Elementary students from low—income families of Mexican Ancestry face several challenges to succeed in the American School System, including economic difficulties and a tough language barrier. As they grow up, students lack motivation to further their studies , or pursue a college degree. Goals: • Recognize students for their academic and leadership achievements and encourage them to continue their education. • Award the winner with a computer and a scholarship. The scholarship will allocate resources towards the winner’s college education as a means to alleviate financial stress
