WE ARE CONTACT We are a dynamic charity in Manchester with young people at the heart of everything we do. We work locally, nationally, and internationally to provide life-changing opportunities for the next generation of creative leaders, artists, and audiences. We redefine theatre for the 21st Century, presenting and producing a diverse artistic programme in our building, surprising places, and virtual spaces.

A WORD FROM OUR ARTISTIC DIRECTOR BABA SAYS At Contact we are dedicated to inspiring young people across Greater Manchester. We are working harder and smarter to generate the income to provide these opportunities and we are continuing to raise our profile around the world with our cutting-edge digital projects. Thank you for your continued support in helping us achieve our ambitions. The remainder of this year and beginning of 2012 are shaping up to be packed full of fresh new theatre, music, art and opportunities to get involved. We’re bringing back some events you will recognise, including the Black Sound Series, Flying Solo and Queer Contact but stand by for a few surprises like our new regular comedy event Comedy Playground.

A WORD FROM OUR YOUNG PEOPLE We see theatre as the meeting place of all art forms. Our wide-ranging programme brings together the best of new writing, music, dance, visual arts, performance and spoken word. You’ve probably seen our building. It’s the one that looks like a castle behind Manchester Academy on Oxford Road. We are an environmentally friendly venue where artistic experiments are explored, developed and completed. Inside you’ll find exhibitions, our café-bar Contact Lounge and our top-of-the-range digital studio, Media Lounge.

“I got involved with CYAC through a friend, I auditioned and I got in! CYAC has allowed me to develop my activity, gained me confidence and given me the opportunity to be myself.” James Hakiza, 17, Contact Young Actors Company (CYAC) #CYAC

We are really excited to welcome Larkin’ About as a resident company who will be producing an all-day pervasive gaming event in December. If you were at our Globally Digital launch event I know you’ll be excited to see more telepresence and digital collaborations. Make sure you check out the Playspace commission and a special digital Verbally Challenged in December. Don’t forget to take part through contactmcr.com and our social media channels – we want to hear from you! Hope to catch you all soon! Baba Israel Artistic Director/Chief Executive @BabaIsrael

“My Contact friends are a family now. It’s a safe, welcoming place. It makes you a better person just being here.” Jerrell Barnwell-Duhaney, 17, Media Drop #mediadrop

VOID STORY A multi-media fable

Void Story follows a beleaguered pair of protagonists on a rollercoaster ride through the decimated remains of contemporary culture. Forced Entertainment perform this bleak and comical modern fable as if it were a radio play, sitting at tables, turning the pages of the script, ‘doing’ the requisite voices and adding in sound effects. Simultaneously the stage is dominated by a series of projected images, a storyboard for an impossible movie-version of Tim Etchells’ unsettling text. Somewhere between the live dialogue, the recorded sound effects and the collaged images is where Void Story actually takes place. Suitable for ages 16+. forcedentertainment.com #voidstory @ForcedEnts Void Story is a new Forced Entertainment project made for SPILL with support from Tanzquartier, Vienna and Tate Media. Following a hugely successful premiere, Flying Solo returns in 2012! The ability of a single artist to captivate and hold an audience is one of the great performing traditions. The Flying Solo Festival celebrates this skill with a bold and diverse week of performances including edgy live art, Hip Hop theatre, comedy, spoken word, music and dance.

Each year, new and emerging artists work with established performers to gain the experience and confidence to develop their own solo work, through masterclasses and workshop activity. Artists coming up in 2012…Bryony Kimmings… J.Fergus Evans…Sabrina Mahfouz…Daniel Bye ALSO don’t miss last year’s Flying Solo Artist Pitch winner Nicky Norton, performing a sharing of her new piece, supported by Fuel and MC, Amsterdam. #FS2012
