GREETINGS FROM THE DIRECTOR WOW! This is Contemporary Dance Theater’s 40th Anniversary Season! I‘m excited by the season and the opportunity to once more share some marvelous artists with the Greater Cincinnati community. While our 40th Guest Artist Series could constitute a year of nostalgia with a roster of guests whom we have presented in the past, each of them will bring new work and innovative ideas directly to you. Contemporary Dance Theater is delighted to be a part of that experience and hope you will be swept away by their enthusiasm and energy. CDT and I invite you to come along for an exhilarating ride with some of the best artists in the field. They’ve come to Cincinnati to perform especially for us in a lovely intimate theater particularly suited to showcase contemporary dance. I hope to see you soon!

EVERETT

November 2 & 3, 2012 FROM PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND

EVERETT is a unique and innovative dance theatre group. Their work blends

dance, video, music, and theater, tackling fascinating subjects. Their latest piece Brain Storm resulted from years of research and development, during which Everett worked with scientists and people living with brain injuries. The Village Voice of New York has described the experience of their work as one that allows audiences to “understand the transformative nature of art.” An audience member of Brain Storm wrote, “As in any great performance, Brain Storm touched my heart and challenged my mind.” Become a part of the storm by experiencing this evening of vibrant images, sound, movement, and drama designed to immerse your brain.

PHILADANCO March 22 & 23, 2013

FROM PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA

PHILADANCO is Philadelphia’s premier modern dance company, created in

1970 to address the lack of opportunities for minority dancers in the Delaware Valley. In the 42 years since then, PHILADANCO has advanced from a community-based company to an internationally-renowned institution. On the heels of their 40th Anniversary, PHILADANCO takes a trip down memory lane and also performs a new work, “Wake Up,” by prominent hip hop choreographer Rennie Harris. Fans, both old and new, are invited to join the dancers on a tour through those groundbreaking years that shaped them into the spectacular and electrifying company they are today.

area choreographers festival May 3 & 4, 2013

ARTISTS WITH REGIONAL TIES

AREA CHOREOGRAPHERS FESTIVAL is the only performance in the Guest Artist Series that is produced and commissioned by Contemporary Dance Theater. It is an important celebration of choreographers and dancers with regional ties to Southwest Ohio.

Comprised of juried selections of contemporary dance, it is an eclectic palette. Dance writer Kathy Valin writes that the festival is an “essential link to area’s abundance of talent and its ongoing expression.” Come and experience a diverse variety of dance from the area while supporting local artists!

PILOBOLUS June 14 & 15, 2013

FROM WASHINGTON DEPOT, CONNECTICUT

PILOBOLUS is back

after performing to soldout crowds in Cincinnati last season. Their artistry, singularity, and physical prowess were so intriguing and enjoyed by Cincinnati, that Contemporary Dance Theater just had to bring them back again. The dance troupe is no stranger to sold-out crowds, having performed over 5000 times in 64 different countries. The Grammy-nominated Pilobolus has been seen in OK Go’s video for “All’s Not Lost,” on Conan O’Brien, the 2007 Academy Awards, and Oprah, to name a few.
