Patty Cason, MSN, FNP-BC and Michael S. Policar, MD, MPH This session is a hands-on practicum designed for clinicians who want comprehensive instruction in IUD placement. Learners will acquire the skills required to safely and correctly place each of the IUD products that are available in the United States. The session includes detailed instruction in use of a tenaculum and uterine sound, followed by step-by-step guidelines and practice for the placement of each device.

THIS PRECONFERENCE WILL ENABLE YOU TO: uu Describe correct use of uterine sound during IUD placement. uu Demonstrate correct hand skills necessary for placement of the copper IUD and

each of the three levonorgestrel IUDs.

uu Explain the differences in four IUD products available in the U.S. uu Summarize the U.S. MEC category 3 and 4 recommendations regarding

PRECONFERENCE D (1:15 - 5:30 P.M.) TAKING YOUR IUD SKILLS TO THE NEXT LEVEL This session provides advanced, evidence based guidance for the clinical management of IUD patients. Designed as a stand-alone session for experienced clinicians already performing IUD placements or as “part 2” for participants in the morning practicum session, discussion begins with patient-centered IUD counseling tips and nuances of informed consent. Following this, successful strategies for dealing with difficult IUD placements will be presented. Pain prevention and management during outpatient procedures, responding to IUD complaints and side effects, and prevention and management of IUD complications will be discussed.

During the Clinical Training Program for Nexplanon® you will receive hands-on training for insertion and removal procedures as well as implant localization techniques.
