EMBRACING THE FEELING OF HOME

01. Japanese meets Nordic style The functional design approach well known to Scandinavian countries is joining forces with the minimalist Japanese aesthetic, creating what is being referred to as Japandi style. Both known for prioritising function over form, this style is dictated by open and bright spaces, a limited colour palette, and furniture with clean lines.

02. Wicker furniture Wicker décor brings an undisputed warmth to any home, and its beauty lies in its versatility. No longer limited to big and bulky furniture such as chairs and tables, you could work this trend into your home by way of wicker accents, such as lampshades, hanging chairs, wall mirrors and storage solutions.

03. Natural materials and textures Complementing the popularity of wicker is an emphasis on the use of natural materials – a trend which no longer appears to be simply ‘a trend’, but rather a design approach and state of mind that isn’t going anywhere fast. Indoor plants, wood, stone, linen, cotton and other materials that bring us into contact with nature are increasingly sought after for all aspects of the home.

04. Upbeat hues While neutral shades and muted colours are unlikely to ever fall out of favour, bursts of bright colour are being endorsed to enhance the mood of a space – yellow touches add warmth, blue bits of furniture contribute a sense of serenity, while deep shades of green add a rich layer to any room.

05. Personalisation Much as trends help guide our choices, a concept that’s being popularised for the home is to consciously personalise your spaces, taking your interests and tastes into account. This could mean investing in a piece of art for the living room, creating a niche in your home for reading time, or opting for unique furniture or wallpaper that truly reflects your style.
