HOME INTERIOR TRENDS 2022: REVELATIONS BORN FROM SOLITUDE
As a direct response to what we’ve all been missing since the coronavirus pandemic hit, the home interior trends for 2022 are all about objects and design with sustainability and circularity at heart. It has been a time for designers to experience revelations born from the solitude of quiet contemplation to create truly functional, striking products and spaces. Think technical innovation, material exploration, and, perhaps most interestingly, community. As an acknowledgment of the ongoing isolation that the world has endured, design this year is inspired by touch and interaction, grounded by an earthy, natural composition, as Lisa Borain discovers.

01. Different Shades of Green
Although highly symbolic on so many levels, the most obvious thing about green is that it’s reminiscent of nature and represents sustainability. 2022 will be bringing us different shades of green in the most celebrated new furniture pieces and designed spaces.
02. Earth
Nature is and always will be a huge source of inspiration in design, but now so more than ever due to our reintroduction to the great outdoors. Expect to see more products which are reminiscent of aspects in nature and are made of sustainable materials. Spaces which encourage and appreciate interaction with our external surroundings are also on the rise.

03. Polka Dots
After the emergence from a sombre time, there is always going to be a playful side of design to bring out the quirkiness in people. The polka dot pattern will make a big comeback in 2022 with its lively and animated associations. 04. 90s Urban Style
This look is all about the street art movement that started in the ‘90s: colourful furniture with very minimalistic yet space-age design. Bold accents, such as neon signs, animal prints, geometry, rounded shapes, a new reading of the classics – and even a bit of kitsch – complete this style. Think Banksy meets Space Odyssey.

05. Smart Design
The pandemic brought about a new consumer: one that appreciates a comfortable, high tech home office. As a result, some brilliant smart furniture designs are unfolding, which offer digital or automated features. 06. Colours of the Year
The Pantone Fashion Colour Trend Report Spring/ Summer 2022 features 10 popping colours that will help create vibrant and bold offerings into the home design space next year. Bright, cheery, electric, and arresting, the colours are Cascade, Coral Rose, Super Sonic, Popcorn, Potpourri, Bubblegum, Orchid Bloom, Sudan Brown, Fragile Sprout, and Coffee Quartz.
