Special Notes From the Editor

Readers will note the multiple creative aspects of our featured artist. The tie in of course for us, is her lengthy portfolio of surface designs for fashion. I have known this artist for many years. I knew that she had a background in fashion but I discovered she was both focusing on her fine art, as well as designing for both large surface and small surface applications, by chance. I happened upon this fact recently and spent quite some time in conversation with her before extending the offer to work with the magazine. We have been expanding on the style and content of the magazine and she fit right into those plans once we knew what she was up to in her studio. We are thrilled to announce the addition of Cecile Grace Charles to our staff. She has a fine art, surface design, author/writer and gourmet cook background. How she has had the time for all of these things is a wonder for a single creative. We will be taking advantage of that throughout our magazines. She hates titles but we will sort that out eventually, for now you will see a few changes with her inspiration that fit into my vision. We are very happy she has joined us. Stay tuned for features on surface design for both fashion as well as merchandise in the coming months. Besides keeping an eye on the fabulous products out there for your own fashion needs, we will be expanding our articles to include many aspects of the fashion world.

I am asking anyone who wears them, to take a close look in the mirror and consider what people actually think when they see your choices. Yes, people do have strong opinions. No, they should not matter if you are comfortable. Fashion has rules or there would be no point of fashion. People can be told how to behave but that is not how they will act when presented with something that goes way past comfortable to look at, instead of a nice sight, it turns into a vision from the farm behind the fence, of two pigs’ rears fighting in a nylon sock. Presentation does matter. If its not for sale, then consider beauty your goal. By all means wear simplified clothing, but second skin only goes over well on perfection, even then it’s not fashion, its display. As a person who considers themselves a fashion forward entity I have to be honest. My style advice? Class over crass. The blouse or overdress should pass the curve of the wearer’s backside for optimum attractiveness. A wide birth is quite attractive with the right bunting, even more alluring. This has nothing to do with attracting someone, it does have to do with what you want people to think of you. Getting anywhere in this world means you present yourself in a style package that says you are successful, you are comfortable with yourself, but that you want people to consider your mind, not your posterior. If it did not matter, the word ugly would not exist. If your feelings are put out by this article, then you do care even if you say no one has a right to tell you what to wear. Even if you are physically fit, the vision you offer by not wearing an over blouse is no different to most viewers than plumbers crack on a service person. It might be a healthy crack but its still a crack. Please do us all a favor and act accordingly. The mere mention of the word fashion, indicates that a dedicated amount of time is made to look fashionable within the parameters of stylish couture, even on a non-existent budget. Even my mate, who is a looking afficionado, can’t stand the look. It doesn’t say fashion, it may be a fashion, but it is not fashionable. Cecile Grace Charles Artist: Cecile has a fourth cone in her eyes, this is called Tetrachromacy. She sees one hundred or more colors than the average person. Although common in some birds and animals this is fairly rare in humans. It affects her art. One of the unique things that this caused is Cecile does not see humans in the same colors. What is in the brown and black colors and tones simply does not exist for Cecile, she may see Gold, Purple, Peach, Cherry and Lemon. In the lighter colors of white, tan, olive and peach, she sees Pineapple, Grape, Lime, Blueberry and Parsnip. Seeing this way is/was very difficult for her in the beginning, she simply does not see humans or any live animal, bug or water creature in the traditional colors. This effects even her perception of what color people are around her. She taught herself to look for emotions on a person’s face instead. This is a key to understanding the art she produces. For her there is no such thing as brown, white and black, she can only apply those colors by their labelling and the tonal effects they cause on paper and canvas. Even digital made colors look different to her. It took many years before she realized what many see as a deformity was actually a great gift. Recently she has been painting directly what she sees, verses what she assumes others want to see. The easiest way to explain how she sees is to imagine the effects of neon lighting. Although she sees the primary colors quite well, beige, brown, black, white, tan, these do not look at all like what she sees. Her art is now more vibrant. As a multidiscipline artist: Most artists chose to excel in a specific style, Cecile practices them all. If you look closely though she has a fairly confined set of strokes. Impressionism, dotism, pointillism, lines, drip effects and form-abstract and the strokes used to apply paint in these manners are the main formulae she uses. She also hires out for traditional or abstracts, for book covers and commercial work. Surface Designs Cecile produces digital art files for sale that are applied to fabrics and merchandise. I used to call my business ARK Jams & Jellies. I’ve been operating since November 2019. After collaborating with online vendors during Covid, I started dabbling in chocolates and baked goods. We called it the Bake and Candy Shoppe. My girlfriend had a conversation with me and pointed out that I was much more than jams and jellies and I needed to come up with a name that was more inclusive. I settled with ARKitchen. To date we have more than 20 jam recipes both traditional and original. We are also vending in small liquor stores and mom and pop shops. I’ve decided that I only open the bake and candy shop during the winter holidays. From November 1 until January the following items are also available: peanut brittle, chipotle peanut brittle, Mocha truffles, espresso truffles, peppermint patties, milk chocolate brownies, dark chocolate brownies and assorted cookies.
