Most companies have taglines, slogans and jingles. At Contiki, we have a way of life. It’s called #NOREGRETS. We treat every day as a new adventure. We build friendships that last a lifetime. We live every day like it’s our last and leave absolutely nothing behind. #NOREGRETS isn’t just a travel philosophy. It’s at the heart of everything we do.

life is there to be lived. make sure you look back with #noregrets 02-03 No Regrets AUS.indd 3

You may y have grown up here, or now call Aussie ho ome... but how much ha ave you really experienced of Australia? To oo often we look to trave el elsew where, and forget about the ad dventures in our own backyar rd. It’s time to discover the places s you always wanted to go (or those yo ou might not have thought about). An nd always only with 18-3 35’s - no younger, no older. It’s time to let th he adventure begin. The e number one tr ravel rule we live by: Don’t waste a moment or let any exper rienc ce pass you by. Make eve ery mo ome ent count. “ACTION EXPRESSES PRIORITIES” - Gandhi. It’s easy to believe in things, but much harder to live them. For over 50 years we’ve had some immutable truths. They’re not just words we say, they’re words we live by: Make every moment count. You only get one shot at life, but if you do it right that’s all you’ll need. We’re about people, not things. It’s people’s individuality, diversity & a little bit of craziness that makes the world go ‘round.

04-05 Every Moment AUS.indd 2

Life’s an adventure. Push yourself – you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.

Do things with passion. Life isn’t just there to be lived; it’s there to be loved.

Be young, and stay that way no matter what your age. Always see the world through youthful eyes.

Tread lightly, respect our world & its inhabitants. Walk around the world, not over it.

Challenge everything. Disregard what seems impossible. Embrace change.

Be part of the story. Don’t sit on the sidelines – get involved & make your mark.

Insider access included as standard on every trip. Think about the last time you were at a concert. What would have made it better? Exactly…a Backstage Pass. And that’s exactly what we offer. Discover the sights of Australia you’ve just got to see. And why not? Just pack your bags & we’ll sort the rest. Outback adventure, dive trip, festival, long adventure up the coast? We’ve got you covered on all of the above! Our Backstage Pass is a combination of all the things below, many exclusive to us, that come together to make up your trip like no other. Best of all, it comes included as part of every trip. EXCLUSIVE inclusions As the original adventure travel company, we know youth travel better than anyone. No other company can give you a better experience of the real Aussie with more included. Swap Bondi for a dip in Florence Falls, take in the best view of the incredible Kakadu, drive down the sand highways on Fraser Island & of course watch the sunset over Uluru – champagne included. You also get local access with Aboriginal experiences, true blue Aussie characters & a few of our native furry friends too. We’ll also get you around in style – think of it as a chauffeur driven road trip. Easy!

EXCLUSIVE Options We know how time to do your own things is key when you travel, and we provide you with loads of time to create your path… we call it ME Time, because it’s all about you. If you’re keen to chill, you can. Or, if something more upbeat calls, then that’s cool too. Want to white water raft, ride a Harley around Uluru, skydive in Cairns or dive on the reef? Well, we’ve hand-picked a range of treats unique to the places you visit, we organise it all for you & our exclusive access means great prices you won’t get elsewhere. It’s all about making it count.

EXCLUSIVE ACCOMMODATION When was the last time you woke up at a Whitsunday Island resort, on-board a sailing yacht, or at a lodge in the heart of the lush Daintree Rainforest? With us you will! And in cities, we keep you central – it’s all about relaxed, stylish, central hotels boasting the comfort you crave. We also mix it up with our Special Stay experiences like a beach-side surf camp, a swag on Kings Creek Station & a working cattle station.

EXCLUSIVE FOOD Surprise the palate & delve into some of Australia’s adventurous eats, as well as your normal faves. We include breakfast every day, some lunches & lots of evening meals, with some quirkier treats thrown in too. Think croc or kangaroo for something different, as well as those things you love like BBQs, to you get more authentic local flavours for less. Like freshly caught fish overlooking the beach or a BBQ cooked the way only the Aussies can. We still leave you lots of ME Time to head out & explore other tastes too.

EXCLUSIVE team Our amazing Aussie-based Team’s sole focus is making your trip the time of your life. You might know Australia, but our team will peel back the layers for even more of an inside angle. It’s about packing your trip with history, tips & local facts on each destination you simply wouldn’t get without a friend in the know. You’ll love their passion for exploring & opening your eyes & ears to all the stuff you’ll wonder why you didn’t know earlier!

WORDS WE LIVE BY: Without a healthy disregard for the impossible we would be just another travel

ME ME Time = free time, and it’s exactly that. It means having the freedom to choose. Whether it’s relaxing at the beach or in a café, heading off to explore the local market or getting a locally guided tour in the Outback. Our ME Time optionals give you the chance to take your trip to a whole new level with must-do experiences. But if heights aren’t your thing, then how does kayaking with dolphins & whales sound? Or ziplining through the jungle in Cape Tribulation? Our exclusive access around Australia means you’ll get great deals & your ME Time optionals are all organised by us.

They’re extensively trained & locals of the region. They know the country inside out & are bursting with jaw-dropping experiences, facts to rival Wikipedia & they can’t wait to share it all with you. After travelling around Europe as a Contiki Tour Manager for five years, I returned home to Australia so I could show off all the amazing places our country has on offer! We’ll take you on a journey filled with spectacular flavours and in some spots, something a little different! With us, you can experience the things you wanted to try but maybe thought you never would, like crocodile or kangaroo in the Outback, if you’re feeling game. We include breakfast every day & loads of evening meals, but we like to leave some well-placed gaps (like lunches) for a few reasons. Rather than having to time your day of exploring around an included lunch, we believe in maximising your ME Time to let you try what you like, in your time & budget.

PEOPLE We seek inspiration from some incredible humans. From renowned environmental explorers taking on the world, to the individuals in our offices taking charge with office sustainability; the people who get involved with Contiki Cares inspire us & challenge us to be the best we can be.

CÉLINE COUSTEAU Céline Cousteau is an environmental activist, explorer & documentary film maker. She’s also the granddaughter of legendary oceanographer Jacques Cousteau & a big source of inspiration for Contiki. We are excited to have partnered with Céline for four years now. Her passion & connection with both our travellers, team & the ocean never ceases to amaze us.

our travellers Over the past 53 years, we’ve been overawed by the conscientious attitude of so many of our travellers. From taking time to clean up a beach in New Zealand to attending a charitable dinner in Cambodia, we’re constantly inspired by the selfless ways in which people choose to use their time abroad. If you have an idea for us, want to know how you can get involved, or just feel like a chat, send an e-mail to contikicares@contiki.com. We’d absolutely love to hear from you.

TREAD LIGHTLY in AUSTRALIA Our Australian team are all about making changes from the ground up. From things like incentive car-pooling, clothing swaps, volunteer days to give back in our local communities, to Oxfam chocolate initiatives – a little bit goes a long way.

Do I need vaccinations?

important information

At the time this brochure went to press (March 2014), no vaccinations were necessary. However, it is wise to check up-to-date information with your travel agent or Contiki prior to departure. Don’t forget to bring with you any medication that you may require en route, such as antihistamines or antibiotics.

Security is a major concern to all of us and the situation globally is constantly changing. Events around the world, coupled with the “Travel Advisories“ put out by various governments, may at times necessitate changes to the accommodations and itinerary or even tour cancellation. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for further information in this regard. You must accept these risks involved in travel to any country that may experience security difficulties and accept responsibility for your own travel decisions.

Seasonality & climate Being such a large land mass, Australia is prone to seasonal climate changes. This will mean that at certain times of the year some of our brochured itineraries may need to be slightly changed. For example: northern Australia itineraries during the wet season (December to April).

What should I pack?

no compulsory tipping reward only excellence!

our trips Some of our longer Australia trips are made up of shorter modules, meaning more choice & flexibility for our travellers as they explore. This means more friendships & even more fun as you discover Australia’s best & make every moment count!

me time Optional Activities WHEN DO I CHOOSE? Optionals are arranged & paid for on trip. By leaving the final decisions until then you can choose at the same time as your new friends. You’ll get great value as we get you great rates & your Tour Manager can offer personal advice. Some activities are seasonal & weather dependent as well.

HOW DO I PAY? You pay on trip with major credit cards, debit cards or cash (A$ in Australia).

Past traveller 5% discount Eligibility for this discount is based on clients having booked & travelled with Contiki (or one of our Travel Corporation sister brands, visit www.thetravelcorporation.com for details) within 5 years of their last trip. Clients must have completed a trip before they can redeem the discount on a subsequent trip booking. A deposit must be received before the discount can be applied to the booking. It is not available on pre & post-trip accommodation

This is entirely discretionary – it’s completely up to you. No compulsory tipping – reward only excellence!

We have put a great deal of effort into producing this brochure. The information given & literature produced by Contiki has been compiled with care & is published in good faith. Sometimes, because of circumstances outside our control, we have to alter some activities due to seasonal closing or repairs to buildings, etc., especially early or late in the season. If this happens, alternatives will be arranged.

You should be able to use debit & credit cards for most items. You’ll need to allow enough money to cover lunches, some dinners, souvenirs, shopping, drinks, optional activities, entrance fees to attractions & evening entertainment. It is advisable to start your trip with some cash in your destination’s local currencies such as A$.

Comfortable, casual clothing for day wear & ‘smart casual’ for dining & those nights out. Remember that in Autumn/Winter you will need warmer clothing as well as a raincoat/ jacket. A pair of comfortable walking shoes is essential. Some activities in Australia require swimwear & towel. For further details, please go to contiki.com/travel-resources.

If you think your Contiki Team have done an exceptional job then you may wish to tip them.

Every country in the world has different tipping customs & in Australia & New Zealand, within service industries, tipping is common practice. Tipping is totally optional & only given if you feel the service has exceeded your expectations.

Contiki has been running trips for young people since 1962 & is a member of the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA). The members include all the major trip operators who are financially bonded for your security & who maintain the highest standards. For more information on how to get more before & after your trip see p.20.
