Ever thought there must be more to life? There is. Think of 3 words:
Europe. Winter. Contiki. Europe, because it’s packed with things to see, do and love. Contiki, because we're the people to help you see the world. Meet people who are your age, on your wavelength, and share fantastic times traveling. There's no better way to go! We’ve been a family owned business since 1962. Contiki has led the way since day one, helping generations of travelers discover the world.
Adventure and passion – that’s the Contiki spirit. It’s what we stand for… and after traveling with us, you will too! W For more go to contiki.com/contiki-experience
Contiki Europe Winter
You know the feeling when you’ve done something so incredible, you have to do it again? That’s Contiki. That’s why people come from all over the globe to explore Europe with us.
nly the best ompletely 18-35
No younger. No older. Just everyone in between. Travel with us and you’ll meet people your age and build your global network. See, smell, taste and live Europe while sharing some incredible times together. Are you ready?
he best value We’ve done some hard bargaining across Europe so you get the best deals. You’ve probably already noticed that what others call ‘extras’ – to us, are all included as part of the package. You know exactly what you’re getting so you can plan to a tee (more on page 13). Our unique extras include access to the Contiki Basement in London where you can pick up your email, store luggage and get info from helpful Contiki staff. Look for other bonuses like modern coaches with power charging units, plus loads of included sightseeing.
Like the idea of traveling with your own personal travel guru? Our crew is trained to help you get the most from your vacation, from visiting the sights, to finding and doing things ‘off the itinerary’. Tap into their local knowledge and get the help and advice you need. Trust us, they’ve made it through training ‘boot camp’ and know their stuff.
o hassle
Truth is, travel can be hard work. Like when it’s late and you’re lugging your backpack in the rain, up a crowded street, in a new city, looking for street signs while juggling a map. That’s not fun and it won’t happen with Contiki! We take the hard work out of your trip, so you can chalk up some seriously good times - everything a vacation should be.
5
want ‘me time’ We hear you. We know you want your own time to check things out, explore the back streets or chill out. Our trips have flexibility & free time every day. There’s ‘Explore More’ optional activities (pages 8-9) that let you pick and mix. Whether you’re into culture, adventure sports, music or food, we’re confident you’ll find something you can’t refuse. While we're talking flexibilty, there's a choice of two styles of travel - more on page 11.

When you hit the road with us, you know you're about to begin the trip of a lifetime! Plus, you'll feel even better knowing that traveling by coach emits less carbon emissions and other harmful greenhouse gases per passenger than most other forms of transport including cars, trains and planes! International air travel is key to getting you on the road to your world adventure and most airlines have options for you to carbon offset. Coach is by far the most carbon efficient way to travel around.
Contiki's coach fleet is one of the best around and we regularly update it so that our engines remain fuel efficient and environmentally friendly. For the full story go to contiki.com/responsibletravel. Last year we launched The Leading Travel Companies Conservation Foundation so that we could help protect threatened communities, natural environments and historic sites all over the world. Already, the foundation has helped Conservation International protect the Atlantic Forest in Brazil, assisted WWF to support indigenous sustainable tourism projects in Australia and funded research and restoration in Venice. By traveling with Contiki you are helping us contribute to these projects and more. To learn more about the Foundation’s work visit www.tltc.com/foundation

Brochure authenticity
Do I need visas?
• Coach, train and ferry transport as specified. • Accommodation, breakfast and evening meals as detailed on pages 10-11 and under ‘What’s included’ on tour pages. • Sightseeing as detailed on pages 6-7 and in the itineraries on tour pages. Unless specified, entrance fees are not included. • Experienced crew as detailed on pages 12 and on tour pages.
We have put a great deal of effort into producing this brochure. The information given and literature produced by Contiki has been compiled with care and is published in good faith. Sometimes, because of circumstances outside our control, we have to alter some excursions due to seasonal closing or repairs to buildings, etc., especially early or late in the season. If this happens, alternatives will be arranged.
Please read carefully. Depending on your nationality, you may require visas to enter certain countries included in your tour. You are fully responsible for obtaining all necessary visas prior to the departure of your tour. Contiki are not legally permitted to knowingly allow anybody who does not have a valid visa to join a tour. Consult your travel agent to determine which visas you require and how to obtain them.
What’s not included?
Security
• Personal expense money. • Visas, personal insurance, medical fees. • Sightseeing, visits and entrance fees other than those specified on tour pages. • Optional excursions and activities such as optional dinners, gondola rides etc. • Lunches (unless specified under “What’s included”).
Contiki has been running tours for young people since 1962 and is a member of the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA). USTOA includes all the major tour operators who are financially bonded for your security and who maintain the highest standards. Contiki is also a member of the National Tour Association (NTA) and the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA).
Will I get more information? Upon receipt of final payment you’ll receive a copy of Contiki’s ‘Travellers Guide’ - an information book about your holiday. You’ll also receive a comprehensive day-by-day itinerary including full details and costs of all optional excursions available on your tour. Your FREE Contiki document wallet and luggage tag* will be sent to you with your travel documents. The wallet is a safe place for your tickets and passports, something you’ll want to keep and use again. * Contiki reserves the right to substitute an alternative travel accessory for the Contiki document wallet.
How much money do I need?
W For more detailed information online head to contiki.com/contikipedia
You should be able to use debit and credit cards for most items. You’ll need to allow enough money to cover lunches, some dinners, souvenirs, shopping, drinks, optional excursions and activities, entrance fees to attractions and evening entertainment. It is advisable to start your tour with some cash in local currencies such as Euro, Swiss Franc and Great British Pounds.
Explore More Optional Activities When do I choose? Optionals are arranged and paid for on tour. By leaving the final decisions until then you can choose at the same time as your new friends, you’ll get great value as we get you great rates and your Tour Manager can offer personal advice. Some activities are seasonal and weather dependent as well. How do I pay? You pay on tour in appropriate local currencies (Great British Pound, Euro, Swiss Francs).
Am I expected to tip on tour? Every country in the world has different tipping policies and in Europe, within service industries, tipping is common practice. Tipping is totally discretionary and only given if you feel the service has met or exceeded your expectations. Your Tour Manager will assist you with any questions about this while you’re on the road. The same idea applies to your Contiki Crew - if you think they have done a good job then they would be grateful for your recognition by way of a tip, however this is not mandatory – it’s completely up to you.
How much luggage can I bring? Luggage is restricted to a maximum suitcase size of 73cm x 50cm x 25cm (29" x 20" x 10") and maximum weight of 20 kg (44lbs) plus one small hand/day bag that can go on the coach with you. Contiki reserves the right to refuse to accept larger suitcases on tour. On Ski Holidays you may bring one pair of ski boots and skis or a snowboard. Any luggage over the restricted size or amount can be stored with Contiki in London at a nominal charge. Baggage is carried at the owner’s risk and baggage insurance is strongly recommended.
Do I need vaccinations? At the time this brochure went to press (July 2009), no vaccinations were necessary. However, it is wise to check up-to-date information with your travel agent prior to departure. Don’t forget to bring with you any medication that you may require en route, such as antihistamines, antibiotics.
Where will I stay Time Out tours: Accommodation is in superior tourist class hotels, ships, and trains. These are described on pages 1011 and on individual tour pages. On trains in Egypt, two people share a two-berth couchette and facilities are shared. Other train journeys are as detailed in individual itineraries. On overnight ships, cabins with facilities are provided. Depending on the numbers and configuration on your tour, availability of singles can sometimes be limited in some locations. On certain occasions, alternative hotels to those listed in this brochure may be used. While it is the Company’s intention to use hotels of a similar standard and location, no liability can be accepted for any variation of either. Ski holidays: Refer to pages 40-41 for details of accommodation in Austria.

Schengen Visas The majority of our tours travel in countries that are covered by the Schengen Agreement which relates to visas. Citizens of many countries – eg. Australia, United States, Canada, New Zealand – can travel in the Schengen area without a visa. If you require a visa to enter the Schengen area you only need to obtain one visa which will allow you to travel in all Schengen countries. Multiple Entry Schengen Visas Schengen visas can be issued for single entry or multiple entries. If your tour travels outside of the Schengen area at any point you will require a multiple entry visa. The tour that requires multiple entry Schengen visa is listed below: Spanish Spree. Visas for Non-Schengen Countries Some of our tours also visit countries that are not covered by the Schengen Agreement. You may require visas for countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Egypt. Depending on your nationality it may be possible to obtain visas for Egypt upon arrival – you should check before you depart for your tour. Important: 1. Visas can take up to six weeks and a fee is normally charged. 2. Failure to obtain all necessary visas could cause you to miss part of your tour and will result in you incurring considerable expense and inconvenience. 3. These parties are independent suppliers over whom Contiki has no direct control. Unless caused by its own negligence, Contiki is not responsible for and accepts no liability in respect of any claims, losses, damages, costs or expenses arising out of: a) personal injury, sickness, disease, accident or death, however caused, including without limitation, where same results from your conduct on vacation; b) loss or damage to or delay of baggage or other property unless resulting from Contiki’s negligence in which case Contiki’s liability shall be limited to the actual loss but in no event would exceed the total vacation cost; c) delays and loss as a result of government action, weather, mechanical breakdown, equipment failure, labour disputes, sickness, acts of war, insurrection, terrorism, Acts of God or any other causes beyond Contiki’s direct control. In no event is Contiki liable for the acts or omissions of independent third party contractors or of its own employees or agents acting outside the scope of their duties. e) loss of enjoyment, upset, disappointment, distress or frustration, whether physical or mental, resulting from any of the following: (i) any matter or topic described in sub-paragraphs (a) to (d) inclusive above. (ii) your failure to obtain the necessary documentation to travel. (iii) your failure to arrive on time for initial departure or for connections within the tour or to stay within or join your tour at any time after initial departure. (iv) your leaving the tour prior to its completion.
(v) the need for Contiki to change itineraries or substitute accommodation or services, provided that Contiki makes every effort to supply the most comparable services and accommodations available. (vi) cancellation of the vacation by Contiki provided that a full refund of all monies paid is made to you. (vii) Many of our activities are action and adventure orientated. Sports and similar activities inherently involve risks of injury greater than those that would be encountered if you were not participating in such, and therefore, by voluntarily taking part in any sports or other such activities, you thereby acknowledge and assume any of the risks inherent therein. In the absence of negligence on our part, or on the part of our agents and representatives, neither we nor they accept any responsibility for, and shall not be liable for, any injury, illness, damage, loss, accident, expense, delay or any other irregularity resulting from your participation in any of the activities made available to you. (viii) We take every reasonable precaution possible to assure your comfort, safety, and enjoyment while you are taking part in a Contiki vacation. Contiki vacations are generally for the young, and not for the frail or those not generally enjoying good health. A change of climate, food, time and varied cultural habits often affects travelers differently. We therefore recommend that you advise your doctor that you are taking one of our vacations and ask if he or she recommends anything for your trip, even for something as seemingly benign as an upset stomach. Since the brands of any medication to which you are accustomed may be unavailable in places to which you are traveling, we recommend you bring your own supply of any medication you will require and carry such medication in your hand luggage. Prescription drugs should be carried in the original labeled bottles. Should you fall ill during your Contiki vacation, we will make every reasonable effort to make prompt, sanitary, safe and proper medical care available to you. However, if at anytime or anywhere treatments of any sort are suggested to you that do not meet your needs or expectations, you should not hesitate to contact your own doctor. Also, please note that the same sorts of activities that can expose you to certain types of diseases at home can just as easily expose you to those same diseases abroad. This information is provided only for your convenience and we are not responsible or liable for any damages resulting from your failure to confirm or ascertain health information or medical precaution, if any, for the places which you will be visiting. (ix) Contiki is responsible for taking care to arrange and conduct your vacation properly. With you in mind, we have accepted applications from and interviewed numerous potential employees, and then we select only those people whom we believe in our best judgement would be responsible and congenial, Tour Managers, Representatives and Drivers. Although we firmly believe, based on personal interviews and certain disclosures made to us by our employees, that all of our employees enjoy excellent health, we, like other tour operators, are legally unable to confirm this in most, if not all, instances. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES 1. BOOKING YOUR VACATION 1.1 In order to reserve your vacation, a deposit of US$200, per person per tour, or the full amount payable if booking is made within 45 days of departure, be submitted to Contiki by you in respect of that vacation.
