The Contiki Menu Our reputation Every year, young travelers from across the globe choose to vacation with Contiki for the experience of a lifetime – discovering far off places and exotic cultures. For over 46 years, these young travelers have trusted us to show them the world and we’re still going strong.
Everyone’s 18-35 Are you ready to live it up and meet other young, like-minded travelers from across the globe? On Contiki everyone’s 18 to 35 so there are always fun and interesting people to hang-out with if you want to. It doesn’t matter if you’re a solo or tandem traveler – clear your address book because it’s going to be full by the time you get home.
Great staff and superb transport Our young, professional staff are the dependable, knowledgeable travel partners you don’t want to leave home without. Kick back and enjoy the ultimate road trip in the most modern fleet of comfortable airconditioned vehicles.
Hassle free and easy Don’t waste time trying to find the next place to stay or how to get there, with Contiki you can relax, enjoy more and let our expert staff show you their secrets to a hassle free vacation. And forget busy train stations and overcrowded public buses, you can chill out and enjoy the ride on one of our modern, comfortable coaches.
Freedom and flexibility Want to travel with a dynamic group, but also have the opportunity to do your own thing? No problems, we’ve struck a perfect balance that gives you plenty of free-time to do whatever you want.
Trying new food and letting your tummy take over is half the fun of visiting a new country. No trip would be complete without sampling at least a few of the local delicacies like escargot in Paris, goulash in Hungary and fondue in Switzerland. And with a virtual, all-you-can-eat smorgasbord of scrumptious international cuisine, we promise Europe’s kitchens and street vendors will leave you begging for more. Providing breakfast and many dinners, we’ll make sure you get your fill of fresh, seasonal produce but still give you the opportunity to indulge in mouthwatering meals at local eateries in your free time. Mix it up with our special optional dinners and free evenings, so you can tuck into a Tuscan feast or wash down a spicy paella with a glass of sangria in Spain – there’s a huge variety to choose from. Some tour operators include lunch. We have the experience to know that this doesn’t work. You’ve told us you prefer being out and about, sampling the local delights as well as maximizing your free time and enjoyment, rather than scrambling back for a communal lunch. So we’ve listened and are happy to leave lunch to you. Please Note: If you have any special dietary requests please make these known at the time of booking. Although we’ll bend over backwards to make sure it happens, standards can sometimes vary from place to place. Unfortunately we can’t be held responsible for local meals that don’t meet your exact requirements. It’s all part of the adventure!

Fun and immerse yourself in different cultures The fun of traveling is meeting new people, seeing new places and experiencing new cultures. Our trips are designed to let you explore the culture, enjoy the food, view the sights, experience the traditions and mix with the locals.
Charging on the go! We’ve fitted the vast majority of our coaches (excluding regional tours of Italy, Spain & Egypt) with charging units to make sure you never have a dead battery again! iPods, MP3 players, whatever you’ve got, you can charge it onboard, just don’t forget to bring your Europe and UK plug adaptors. There are also plenty of internet cafes all across Europe to make sure you stay connected on the road.

Our Conservation Foundation Contiki has made a significant commitment to the environment by being a part of establishing The Leading Travel Companies Conservation Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that helps people and places in need. Our group of companies is donating US$1 million per year to fund much-needed conservation, community and sustainable tourism projects that will help create and sustain a better world. The Foundation’s panel of expert sustainable tourism and conservation advisors, will help select a number of projects annually to ensure every single dollar goes to projects that will truly make a difference. Visit contiki.com/responsibletravel for more information on our Foundation.
We’re a greener way to travel Contiki’s coaches are one of the most environmentally friendly ways to travel so you can breathe easy that your footprint will be a little lighter too. Contiki’s coaches are among the best in Europe and by continually updating our fleet we ensure that not only do you travel in style but that our engines are fuel efficient & environmentally friendly too. You’ll be happy to know coach travel emits less carbon emissions and other harmful greenhouse gases per passenger than most other forms of transport including cars or trains. Check out the facts…

Travel carbon neutral and reduce your footprint There is a lot you can do to make a difference while traveling. Small things like switching off air-conditioning and taking shorter showers can save both energy & water. Or refilling your drink bottle instead of buying a new one each day – it all adds up! You can choose to travel carbon neutral and offset the carbon emissions from your flight, accommodation or tour, or all of the above! By paying a small contribution, you’ll be supporting sustainable energy projects that work to reduce the harmful greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. See www.contiki.com/responsibletravel for more on offsetting your travel.
Contiki’s committed to making a difference We’re working with our hotel and various other partners around the world to continue to find ways to save energy and reduce resource consumption and waste. Not only do we think globally, but we act locally within our regional offices with initiatives such as introducing comprehensive recycling schemes and being proactive with educating our staff how they can ‘make a difference’ to the environment both at work and at home. One exciting program we have launched in 2008 is our Staff Volunteer Program where Contiki encourages each team member to select a charity of their choice and gives them 2 work days per year to get out there and lend a hand. Our Company believes and is committed to the ecological and economical use of raw material and the re-use of existing resources. This brochure has been printed on environmentally friendly paper certified by Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC) meaning the pulp used for its production originates from well managed forests and other controlled sources.
Please either pass this brochure on to someone else when finished, or recycle it.

Brochure authenticity We have put a great deal of effort into producing this brochure. The information given and literature produced by Contiki has been compiled with care and is published in good faith. Sometimes, because of circumstances outside our control, we have to alter some excursions due to seasonal closing or repairs to buildings, etc., especially early or late in the season. If this happens, alternative excursions will be arranged.
How much luggage can I bring? On our tours, luggage is restricted to a maximum suitcase size of 73cm x 50cm x 25cm (29" x 20" x 10") and maximum weight of 20 kg (44lbs) plus one small hand/day bag that can go on the coach with you. NO EXTERNAL METAL FRAME BACKPACKS PLEASE, their bulky shape makes coach packing difficult. Contiki reserves the right to refuse to accept larger suitcases on tour. On Ski Vacations you may bring one pair of ski boots and skis or a snowboard. Any luggage over the restricted size or amount can be stored with Contiki in London at a nominal charge. Baggage is carried at the owner’s risk and baggage insurance is strongly recommended.
Do I need vaccinations? At the time this brochure went to press (July 2008), no vaccinations were necessary. However, it is wise to check up-to-date information with your travel agent prior to departure. Don’t forget to bring with you any medication that you may require en route, eg. antihistamines, antibiotics.

LIABILITY 5.1 Contiki is responsible to you for properly arranging and conducting your vacation. 5.2 As Tour Operator, Contiki makes arrangements with carriers, hoteliers and other independent suppliers to provide you some or all the travel services you purchase. These parties are independent suppliers over whom Contiki has no direct control. Contiki is responsible to you for properly arranging and conducting your vacation only. Unless caused by its own negligence, Contiki is not responsible for and accepts no liability in respect of any claims, losses, damages, costs or expenses arising out of: a) personal injury, sickness, disease, accident or death, however caused, including without limitation, where same results from your conduct on vacation; b) loss or damage to or delay of baggage or other property unless resulting from Contiki’s negligence in which case Contiki’s liability shall be limited to the actual loss but in no event would exceed the total vacation cost; c) delays and loss as a result of government action, weather, mechanical breakdown, equipment failure, labour disputes, sickness, acts of war, insurrection, terrorism, Acts of God or any other causes beyond Contiki’s direct control. In no event is Contiki liable for the acts or omissions of independent third party contractors or of its own employees or agents acting outside the scope of their duties. e) loss of enjoyment, upset, disappointment, distress or frustration, whether physical or mental, resulting from any of the following: (i) any matter or topic described in sub-paragraphs (a) to (d) inclusive above. (ii) your failure to obtain the necessary documentation to travel. (iii) your failure to arrive on time for initial departure or for connections within the tour or to stay within or join your tour at any time after initial departure. (iv) your leaving the tour prior to its completion. (v) the need for Contiki to change itineraries or substitute accommodation or services, provided that Contiki makes every effort to supply the most comparable services and accommodations available.
(vi) cancellation of the vacation by Contiki provided that a full refund of all monies paid is made to you. (vii) Many of our activities are action and adventure orientated. Sports and similar activities inherently involve risks of injury greater than those that would be encountered if you were not participating in such, and therefore, by voluntarily taking part in any sports or other such activities, you thereby acknowledge and assume any of the risks inherent therein. In the absence of negligence on our part, or on the part of our agents and representatives, neither we nor they accept any responsibility for, and shall not be liable for, any injury, illness, damage, loss, accident, expense, delay or any other irregularity resulting from your participation in any of the activities made available to you. (viii) We take every reasonable precaution possible to assure your comfort, safety, and enjoyment while you are taking part in a Contiki vacation. Contiki vacations are generally for the young, and not for the frail or those not generally enjoying good health. A change of climate, food, time and varied cultural habits often affects travelers differently. We therefore recommend that you advise your doctor that you are taking one of our vacations and ask if he or she recommends anything for your trip, even for something as seemingly benign as an upset stomach. Since the brands of any medication to which you are accustomed may be unavailable in places to which you are traveling, we recommend you bring your own supply of any medication you will require and carry such medication in your hand luggage. Prescription drugs should be carried in the original labeled bottles. Should you fall ill during your Contiki vacation, we will make every reasonable effort to make prompt, sanitary, safe and proper medical care available to you. However, if at anytime or anywhere treatments of any sort are suggested to you that do not meet your needs or expectations, you should not hesitate to contact your own doctor. Also, please note that the same sorts of activities that can expose you to certain types of diseases at home can just as easily expose you to those same diseases abroad. This information is provided only for your convenience and we are not responsible or liable for any damages resulting from your failure to confirm or ascertain health information or medical precaution, if any, for the places which you will be visiting. (ix) Contiki is responsible for taking care to arrange and conduct your vacation properly. With you in mind, we have accepted applications from and interviewed numerous potential employees, and then we select only those people whom we believe in our best judgement would be responsible and congenial, Tour Managers, Representatives and Drivers. Although we firmly believe, based on personal interviews and certain disclosures made to us by our employees, that all of our employees enjoy excellent health, we, like other tour operators, are legally unable to confirm this in most, if not all, instances.
