T R AV E L T O G E T H E R What’s shared travel, and why is it the most important part of your trip? Shared travel is central to your Contiki experience. Traveling with a group of other people is about inspiring each other, growing together, being part of something
incredible and leaving with lifelong friends. Join us solo, with some pals, or in a couple - long after your Latin American adventure is over, you’ll still feel part of a global family.
Extraordinary friendships in the words of our travelers
Things you can only do when you share travel Fly to Mexico on your own and have new friends to eat tacos with that same night.
Have someone to watch your stuff when you cool off after sunning yourself on Copacabana Beach.
Hike the Inca Trail with your very own camping crew from around the world.
Make friends from cities all over the world (you’ll always have a place to crash when you travel).
Turn a corner in an unfamiliar city and see a familiar face.
Have a crew of personal photographers on hand. (Never awkwardly ask a stranger again).

One of best trips I’ve ever taken. Phenomenal Trip Manager and an even greater group of 30 people to experience Costa Rica with. The country and activities were great, but it’s the people that make the trip, and it’s Contiki that helps bring those people together.
Ryan H. On The Explorer
Absolutely amazing trip. Made so many great friends and enjoyed loads of great experiences. The itinerary was action-packed and always kept us busy seeing so many great destinations. Abel was a great Trip Manager too, with lots of knowledge about all the places we visited. I would easily recommend Contiki and this trip to anybody.
Contiki Traveler, Oct 2019 On Peru Uncovered
I’ve been fortunate to travel to many different places around the world, and this has by far been my favorite trip. It was my first Contiki and guided trip. I was nervous about the quick structured format. I now believe I would not have seen half of what I did if I’d visited Peru as a solo traveler. My Trip Manager Jhono was the best! He made the whole group seem like one big family. His knowledge and passion for Peru was never ending. Highly recommend this trip.

From a young age we have a lot of outside pressure to conform to this one idea of masculinity - made even more difficult to do as a person of color. The truth is, there isn’t one way to be a man! For me it’s an ongoing process of selfacceptance and a lot of unlearning.
I believe there is no way to travel but consciously, from the companies we travel with, & whether they have given back to local causes, to learning about ecosystems & cultures of the places you visit & why it’s so important to protect them. We can all play our part.
I want to see vibrant, multi-faceted communities who thrive using their own unique gifts and stories. I’d like to see more cultural respect as we walk forward together.
I think the more we share, the more we normalize things. So, with the Confidence Corner I wanted to create a space where I could help to nurture a community of people and where everyone could share their stories.

To eat in a country, is to taste its history, its culture & its love of life. It’s a way to meet some of the locals and bond with new friends; and it’s a way to learn impressive new skills to take home. That’s why food is so important to us - these aren’t just meals, these are unforgettable experiences. ENJOY FRESH GUAC & TACOS LIKE ONLY THE MEXICANS CAN MAKE, MEXICO CITY, MEXICO

Start your day the right way, included every day on your trip. Taste local fresh fruit, or try local arepas, washed down with a punchy coffee to fuel up & kick start your day.
Experiences don’t get much sweeter than this. Learn about the ancient history of the sacred cacao tree and get a demonstration of how these seeds are turned into mouth-wateringly delicious chocolate the world over. Mmmm.
While this one’s for the meat lovers, no vegetarian will be left behind. In Argentina, grass-fed steak with a glass of Malbec is a must. Say “Juguso” for medium rare or “A punto” for medium. Then sit back & watch a sultry tango show.

TEACHES US THE ART OF THE PERFECT PERUVIAN PISCO SOUR
CLASSIC PISCO SOUR This, honestly, is one of the best, tangy, delicious cocktails. It’s early origins are fought over between Peru & Chile, but as I’m Peruvian I’m pretty sure we made it first, & we definitely make it better. Take 60ml of Pisco, 30ml of lemon juice, 20 ml of simple syrup, 1 egg
white & give it a good shake up with ice in a cocktail shaker. Pour through a strainer into a short glass and sprinkle some Angostura bitters over the top. Come & join me in Peru for this classic cocktail at its finest, after a hard day of exploring markets, natural wonders, and ancient Mayan ruins.
ENJOY SOME BBQ VEGETABLES IN IGUASSU FALLS, BRAZIL.
TRIP MANAGER TIP If you want to try it the Chilean w a y, y o u w o u l d r e m o v e t h e e g g white, & use lime instead of lemon. TRY A LOCAL DELICACY - GUINEA PIG, IN SACRED VALLEY, PERU

STREET FOOD
In Cusco, enjoy a dining experience that demonstrates the finer points of Peruvian cooking, while you sit back with a drink - then obviously - tuck in to a delicious dinner.
Explore the hustle & bustle of all the markets in Latin America, from Rio’s Cobal de Humaitá, to Mexico City’s Chilpancingo Metro, and all the small ones in between. Taste fresh juices everywhere, brigadeiro in Brazil, & empanadas in Argentina.
Arepas & tostadas, tlacoyos & pastels. There is a serious amount of delicious street food to be had all across Latin America. Our tips are to keep it local, for example, meat lovers - get your fix in Buenos Aires, seafood lovers your chance is in Rio or anywhere in Belize.

Reason for doing the trip? It just had so many places I wanted to visit. Rio, Cusco, Buenos Aires, the Amazon Rainforest. I couldn’t convince anyone at home to come with me so I thought I’d do something in a group like this. I’m still in touch with most people from the trip so it was definitely the right decision.
Reason for doing the trip? A friend traveled around Latin America and said Colombia was her favorite country. I wanted a trip that I could do alone but went to all the places she did. It was just as good as she said!
Highlights of the trip? Hang gliding in Rio. Or staying in the Amazon Rainforest. So many unforgettable moments though. I want to go back already!
Highlights of the trip? Cartagena! Everything about it. I didn’t come to Latin America for Caribbean vibes, but I fell in love with the cobbled alleys and incredible Afro-Caribbean cuisine. Plus the beaches were dreamy.

Hike through the cloud forest Essential Booking Requirements: When you book your trip (as early in advance as possible) it’s essential that you let us know the following details: full name (as appears on passport), nationality, date of birth and gender. What else? It’s also important that the passport information that you submit with your application is exactly the same as the passport you will use to travel to Latin America and it must have six months validity at time of travel. You will also need your passport to enter onto the Trail. Note: If your information changes it can result in a penalty and cancelation of admission to the Trail. No refunds will be given. Book early! The Peruvian Government closely controls the number of travelers on the Trail, with only 500 permits available each day. Inca Trail permits are non-refundable and non-transferable so it’s essential that you let us know your correct passport details at the time of booking so we can process your application quickly. (Contiki will process your application on your behalf within three days of booking but we cannot guarantee permit availability.) Campsites are subject to change (on the 4 day trek) according to the designation of the governmental institution (Ministerio de Cultura) that regulates the use of the Inca Trail.

WHEN TO BOOK
Before you book make sure that you’re well enough, and ready for the amount of hiking you’ve signed up for.
You’ve been dreaming of Machu Picchu, but so have a few other people. For the best chance to lock down your permit, we recommend booking at least 3 months before traveling between October & April, and 6 months before traveling in May to September. It may be possible to get permits outside these times, but it could be tricky.
Here’s a breakdown of distances: 4 day trek 26.2 mi Day 1: 8 mi, Day 2: 6.4 mi, Day 3: 8.4 mi, Day 4: 3.4 mi 1 day trek 6.2 mi
