Archerfield: One of Scotland’s Leading Luxury Destinations

Situated on the magnificent coastline of East Lothian, a beautiful part of southeast Scotland just 20 miles northeast of Edinburgh, Archerfield is a stunning 550 acre country estate offering superb accommodation, renowned golf courses and a world-class spa.

At the heart of the Estate is Archerfield House, a beautifully restored 17th century mansion house available for exclusive use stays, weddings and events. A cluster of roomy, luxury lodges borders one of the two links golf courses, but for real privacy and the best views of all, there are the waterfront properties. Perched in an extraordinary location just above an expanse of golden sandy beach is Marine Villa, a splendid house in which Robert Louis Stevenson is said to have written Treasure Island, inspired by the view of Fidra Island situated opposite just off shore. Today, Marine Villa is elegant yet blissfully comfortable, exuding classic country house style: think curling up by the fire, pretty floral furnishings and lashings of traditional character. The super-spacious sitting room boasts panoramic sea views from all angles, while the grand dining room definitely calls for convivial candlelit dinners. The cosy snug bar is just one of the charming features at Marine Villa and perfect for a late night dram. Six individually designed bedrooms (four en suite doubles and two charming singles which share a shower room) sleep ten adults in total (extra beds and cots available for little ones) and dogs are also welcome. With a lawn that stretches to the beach and uninterrupted views of the sea, Marine Villa is the ideal holiday house for barbeques, garden games, wild swimming or simply sitting back and taking in the glorious view.

Archerfield’s exclusive gated waterfront collection also includes The Boathouse. This fabulously spacious New England-style house sleeps eight adults in four double en suite bedrooms, each one with its own look and feel, and boasts a huge open plan dining / kitchen / living space on the first floor, to maximise the impact of the incredible coastal setting. The covered balcony is similarly generous in scale and there simply is no better place for enjoying drinks while the sun goes down. As with Marine Villa, included in all rentals is private access to the beach and use of a tennis court, along with the grounds and woodland surrounding this very special enclave.

You can rent Marine Villa or The Boathouse for one night or a fortnight – and however long your stay, there is the enticing option of booking one of Archerfield’s private chefs, to make your stay a truly relaxing one. While you and your guests chat over an aperitif or two, your personal chef and a member of the front of house team will prepare and serve a delectable dinner without you having to lift a finger; clearing up is taken care of too, so your only job is to chill out and savour some very fine food indeed. Alternatively, the restaurant at Archerfield Clubhouse is just a stroll down the road, or you can take advantage of the complementary transport provided as part of your stay. Showcasing the very best of Scotland’s larder. While there are many impressive sides to Archerfield, a particular hidden gem is Fletcher’s Cottage Spa. Voted one of Scotland’s best by The Sunday Times, Fletcher’s Cottage is an award-winning, calm sanctuary designed by Sian ParryJones. Nature is reflected everywhere, with wood, soft woollen throws, deep cushions and log burning stoves creating a warm and tranquil interior. Partnering with just a handful of lifestyle and wellness brands such as VOYA, Bamford and Scottish aromatherapy brand Beatitude, facials and body treatments are centred around organic products and are delivered by highlyskilled therapists. Individual bath huts, a lavender sauna and marine salt steam room are just some of the elements that put Fletcher’s Cottage in a class of its own.
