Guest Speaker John W. Allison John W. Allison is the founder of Home BancShares and Centennial Bank, where he currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Home BancShares is one of only seven publicly traded banks or thrift holding companies currently assigned an A-plus (Excellent) rating by The Street Ratings. Allison served more than 20 years as chairman of the board of First National Bank of Conway (now Regions Bank) and was chairman of the executive committee of the former Little Rock-based holding company First Commercial Corporation. Allison earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He served on the ASU Board of Trustees from 1979-1984, and was named chairman of this board in 1983. He was named 1998 Distinguished Alumni from Arkansas State. Allison is an active commissioner for the Arkansas State Police, serving on the retirement and insurance committees. In 2014 he received the Ermon Cox award, which is the highest award given to a civilian for going above and beyond in their support of the ASP. He was a central Arkansas representative of the Murphy Commission and was named 2013 Community Banker of the year by American Banker Magazine. This honor was given to four bankers across the nation. Arkansas Business Magazine included Allison in its Ten Business Icons issue in 2016. Home BancShares, Inc., parent company of Centennial Bank, was ranked #1 on the Forbes 2018 “Best Banks in America” list, a rise from #8 in 2017’s rankings and #15 in 2016’s rankings. The Rotary Club of Little Rock chose Allison as Business and Professional Leader of the Year in 2018. This honor included being named a Paul Harris Fellow. Allison encourages his employees to give back to the communities and does so by leading through example. He and Centennial Bank have donated countless hours and dollars to local charities, schools and law enforcement agencies. As a result Allison received the Champion of Life Award at the 2014 GoDaddy Bowl. This award goes to individuals who have achieved great success in their chosen field through dedication and hard work. The recipients have overcome the many obstacles that have stood in the path of success and have given a great deal back to the community and country. He is the namesake of the Allison Entrepreneurial speaking series at the University of Central Arkansas that helps encourage college students to reach for their dreams. Guy W. Murphy Distinguished Service The Guy W. Murphy Distinguished Service Award is the Chamber’s highest form of recognition. Established in 1957, this award is presented annually to an individual or group who has demonstrated an active leadership role for the betterment of the community through their involvement in business, civic, and social service organizations.
Bill Johnson Bill Johnson is a lifelong resident of Conway, graduating from Conway High School and the University of Central Arkansas. Bill joined KCON Radio while at UCA, eventually becoming general manager and then part owner. He broadcasted sporting events for UCA, Conway High School, and Hendrix College and was the radio voice for UCA Football for more than 40 years. He later became a part-time development associate in the athletic department. Bill was named the president and CEO of Security Savings and Loan in 1977 and remained in that capacity until its sale in 1996. At that time, he organized First Financial Bank of Conway, which sold to Simmons Bank, and served as its community president until he retired in 2006. Bill served two terms on the UCA Board of Trustees and was a member of the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board for 11 years. He is a past board member of the Conway Development Corporation and past president of the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce, Conway Kiwanis Club, Faulkner County Museum board, and Arkansas League of Savings Institutions. He was awarded lifetime membership in the Arkansas Broadcasters Association and was inducted into the UCA Sports Hall of Fame. Bill was the first recipient of the Joe B. McGee Award for meritorious service to Conway athletics and he received the Award of Exceptional Accomplishment from the Arkansas Community Development Program. He is a founding member of the Conway Men’s Chorus and served two terms as a Justice of the Peace for Faulkner County. Guy W. Murphy Distinguished Service The Guy W. Murphy Distinguished Service Award is the Chamber’s highest form of recognition. Established in 1957, this award is presented annually to an individual or group who has demonstrated an active leadership role for the betterment of the community through their involvement in business, civic, and social service organizations.
Dr. Terry Fiddler Dr. Terry Fiddler is known for his vision and ability to organize and engage teams of people to support and serve the community. Terry has been involved with the Arkansas Mission of Mercy, a free health care clinic, since 2007 – first as a volunteer, then as a board member, and eventually becoming executive director in 2013. Over the course of 12 years, Arkansas Mission of Mercy has served more than 23,000 people and provided over $12.5 million in free dental services. Terry is a member of the Arkansas Dental Association, where he served as president in 1998 and later received the Distinguished Service Award in 2006. He has held numerous leadership roles in the dental industry and also in the community, including serving as founder and director of the Arkansas Forensic Dental Identification team, founder and chair of the State Dental Association Peer Review, and as a delegate to the American Dental Association for 21 years. Terry was a member of the Conway School District Board of Education, serving 14 of his 22 years on the board as president. He has also been recognized as a charter member of several organizations, including UCA’s Purple Circle, The Youth Theatre of Central Arkansas, and the Conway Downtown Partnership. Terry has and continues to be involved in many aspects of the community. He supports the Conway Symphony Orchestra, Boys and Girls Club, Conway Community Arts, Make a Child Smile, Bethlehem House, Conway Men’s Chorus, the American Red Cross, and the Faulkner County Fair Livestock Auction, among others. His active involvement in the community has earned him numerous awards, including the Arkansas Community Leaders in Education Award from the Arkansas State Reading Council, the Service Award from the Central Arkansas Area Agency on Aging, the Arkansas Athletic Trainers’ Association Service Award, the Arkansas/SIRS Intellectual Freedom Award from the Arkansas Library Association, and the Conway School District Board of Education Distinguished Community Service Award. Terry currently is a member of the CARTI Foundation board, University of Tennessee School of Dentistry Alumni Foundation board, and the University of Central Arkansas Foundation board of directors. 10 - #conwaytogether
Lloyd Westbrook Good Neighbor Established in 1973, the Lloyd Westbrook Good Neighbor Award is presented annually to an individual who has given of his or her time and talents. Candidates are known for going beyond the call of duty to help others. The nominee exemplifies outstanding public service to the Conway Area.
Julie Adkisson Julie Adkisson has dedicated her time, attention, and leadership to community organizations in Conway for more than 30 years. Described as “the connector who brings people together,� Julie’s community advocacy extends past the standard office-holding and fundraising positions. She has cultivated relationships that foster close associations among diverse populations in Conway and Faulkner County. Her presence in various community organizations and initiatives is enhanced by her awareness of how they can positively influence and benefit others. Julie has helped to highlight gems of our local culture and crosspollinate organizations by bringing neighbors from various backgrounds together. Julie believes that the business community is complemented by vibrant and visible programs in the arts and social services. With participation by diverse and informed citizens, these assets contribute to an attractive environment in which to live and work. She supports community efforts to promote the arts, speak for the marginalized, and care for those in need. She is or has been an active member of the Conway Symphony Orchestra Guild, Church Women United, Conway Cradle Care, Peacemakers, NAACP, Faulkner Forward, and multiple church, social service, and political organizations. Business Executive of the Year The Business Executive of the Year award recognizes the owner, executive, or president of a business who has displayed outstanding performance in either an individual or collaborative endeavor. The nominee is a driving force behind the company and works to maintain an enriched business climate and an enhanced quality of life in Conway.
Timothy Goodwin Timothy Goodwin founded Arkansas Roofing Kompany almost 10 years ago with his wife, Debbie. Since that time, the residential and commercial roofing company has expanded throughout central Arkansas, earning them the honor of Faulkner County’s “Best of the Best” in 2018. Equinox Outdoor Concepts and Arkansas Outdoor Concepts, two companies also founded by Tim, specialize in louvered roofing and outdoor furniture and structures. All three companies are expanding rapidly, with new locations and a growing staff. Tim believes in leading by example and isn’t afraid to roll up his sleeves and get to work. He ensures his employees are taken care of through company training and team-building opportunities. Tim is active in the community and devotes his time to multiple home and garden shows, Master Gardeners, and New Life Church, where he leads a Life Group and serves as a marriage mentor. 12 - #conwaytogether

Jim Rankin Jr. Jim Rankin Jr., president of Trinity Development Company, leads one of the oldest and largest landdevelopment companies in Conway. Since 1998, he has championed such projects as the Scherman Heights Planned Unit Development – Conway’s first mixed-use development – bringing together patio homes, offices, and commercial property within the same project. Trinity Development manages more than 300,000 square feet of office and commercial space and 500 apartment units in Faulkner County. As a commercial and residential developer, Jim considers it a privilege to have helped shape the physical beauty of Conway. He believes he has a responsibility and obligation to create a successful project that the community can be proud of. Jim was instrumental in the creation of the William McGary Foundation, which supports Conway’s local law enforcement officers. Currently, Jim serves as vice chairman of the Conway Regional Health System board of directors. Young Business Leader of the Year The Young Business Leader of the Year award recognizes a community business leader, age 40 or younger, who has helped create a more vibrant business and social environment for all of Conway’s residents.
Kim Lane
As the CEO of the Conductor, Kim Lane is passionate about “moving the needle” in entrepreneurship and new business development in central Arkansas and beyond. Since the Conductor began in 2016, more than 7,000 people in the community have been impacted. Through her role, Kim regularly speaks to groups about the importance of entrepreneurship and the paradigm shift that occurs in innovative cultures. She is a senior advisor for the Global Entrepreneurship Network and consults with other communities about the work being done in Conway and how to use our city as a model for other initiatives. Kim is a consultant for Facebook and is helping the company launch the Career Connections program that is designed to connect Arkansas college students with high-paid summer internships. The alpha phase of this program is set to launch this spring. Kim is also currently partnering with the mayor to launch “Forward Conway,” an initiative designed to give young leaders a voice in policy-making decisions. She serves on the board of directors for the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas, Junior Achievement of Arkansas, the Arkansas Fellowship, and Global Ties Arkansas. 14 - #conwaytogether

Outstanding Nonprofit
Conway Cradle Care Conway Cradle Care is a childcare and outreach program that serves pregnant and parenting adolescents who are pursuing their high school or college education. Established in 1995, Conway Cradle Care has impacted hundreds of young parents and their children in our community and assisted more than 500 parents in navigating high school graduation. In 2018, 100% of Cradle Care’s high school seniors graduated compared to the national average of 40%. Its childcare program now serves all Faulkner and Perry County schools and is rated a Level 3 Better Beginnings facility. Cradle Care uses certified curriculum to meet developmental needs and offer developmental, hearing, and vision screenings throughout the year. The nonprofit also has a unique relationship with the Department of Human Services, enabling it to provide parents with quick access to childcare assistance vouchers so they can return to school, avoiding a delay in educational pursuits. In addition, Cradle Care offers a program that provides individualized mentoring for each pregnant or parenting student, parenting and life skills classes, free tutoring with childcare available, a parent-resource library and donation station, and birthing and cooking classes. Mike’s Place Mike’s Place, located in historic downtown Conway, aims to be the community’s dining destination and preferred choice for wedding events, anniversaries, business meetings, and other special occasions. After obtaining an alcohol permit in August 2004, Mike’s Place broke new ground as the first restaurant in Conway to apply for a private club license since 1943. Mike’s Place is one of the state’s largest independent restaurants, employing more than 70 people. Creating an atmosphere of old New Orleans, Mike’s Place features high-quality seafood from the Gulf Coast with fresh, hand-made sauces in one-of-a-kind dishes. The management team has more than 100 years of combined experience, and each staff member has been extensively trained in providing the highest level of customer service. Mike’s Place is continuously listed in the Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Seafood, Best Steak, Best Business Lunch Spot, and other accolades. Outstanding Retailer
Lefler’s Fashion For 60 years, Lefler’s Fashion has had a long-standing retail presence in downtown Conway, providing quality fashion apparel, accessories, and cosmetics for central Arkansas women. In today’s changing retail environment, Lefler’s takes a tailored approach by carrying a blend of boutique fashion with some of the best apparel and cosmetic lines that could be found in department stores. The Lefler family recognizes the unique retail mix in downtown Conway, which has led them to support and hold leadership roles in merchant groups that have evolved over the years. Current owner Marty Lefler served on the first board of directors for Main Street Conway. Now with his daughter Brooke, Lefler’s is an active member of the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce and the Conway Downtown Partnership. Acxiom Corporation Acxiom was founded in Conway in 1969 under the name Demographics. For 50 years, the corporation has been a leader in consumer data that drives marketers to achieve results and experiences that deepen customer connections. A global organization, Acxiom’s feet are still firmly planted in Conway. The corporation is passionate about equipping the next generation of leaders to pursue their dreams. Acxiom’s partnership with the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas and Girls of Promise initiative encourages girls to pursue higher-level science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) courses and careers. They also partner with the Museum of Discovery and Toad Suck Daze to fund STEM classroom resources and training opportunities for educators in 25 central Arkansas schools. For the past 11 years, Acxiom has partnered with the University of Central Arkansas to offer Acxiom IT Careers Camp for students from around the state. Students learn from industry experts in the areas of web design, programming, and robotics. Acxiom encourages its associates to give back to the Conway community through volunteering. Associates are provided with 40 hours of paid volunteer-time-off annually, and associates’ donations to nonprofits are matched up to $500.
