ENTERTAINMENT
Country Stars New and Old Headline Festival A new country group that topped the charts for the first time earlier this year and a legendary member of the Grand Ole Opry will each headline a night of entertainment at Toad Suck Daze Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5. Friday night entertainment will feature chart-topping country group LANCO. Their 2017 single “Greatest Love Story” went No. 1 as did their debut album “Hallelujah Nights.” In April, LANCO was nominated for two Academy of Country Music Awards (Vocal Group of the Year, New Vocal Duo/Group of the Year). Arkansas native and singer/ songwriter Adam Hambrick will open for LANCO. Saturday night brings five-time Grammy winner and 25-year member of the Grand Ole Opry Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives to the stage. Stuart is an award-winning musician, performer, songwriter, and producer. During his career, he has charted more than 30 country singles. Crafton Tull is the headliner sponsor for the Saturday night Main Stage entertainment.
For the second year, TriTechne is sponsoring the “Late Night Stage” at Kings. The Friday night 10:30 show features five-piece American soul/funk/R&B group Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal. In 2017, Hoyer was featured as a contestant on NBC’s The Voice, and the band recently completed their first European tour. Saturday night’s 10:30 show at Kings is Opal Agafia and the Sweet Nothings. Opal Agafia & The Sweet Nothings is an Ozark Mountain Soul Roots ‘n’ Roll group from the hills of Arkansas. Led by lead vocalist and songwriter, Opal Agafia, the group is a combination of soul, blues, jazz, country swing, and traditional mountain music. Toad Suck Daze entertainment is presented by Baptist Health on two stages – the Conway CVB Main Stage at Simon Park and the TriTechne Late Night stage at King’s Live Music. Entertainment at both stages is free and seating is general admission. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating to the Conway CVB Main Stage.

TINKERFEST
Acxiom Tinkerfest new territory for Toad Suck During this year’s Toad Suck Daze festival, a city block will be transformed into an interactive STEM education training ground. And students from 17 elementary schools in four counties around central Arkansas will be doing the teaching. Acxiom’s Toad Suck Tinkerfest will be the most recent and visible example of a new partnership between Toad Suck Daze and the Museum of Discovery. The Tinkerfest will bring hands-on and open-ended exploration of materials, tools, and technology. Activities include a real car take-apart, making magnetic slime, building origami toads, robotics, gondola zipline races, and a whole lot more. Each tinkering station will be facilitated by students who have spent the last semester learning these activities and concepts. Twenty-five

AETN Meet the Characters
The Toad Suck 10K was started by the Conway Kiwanis Club in 1982 and is a sanctioned event of Toad Suck Daze. In 1984, First National Bank (now Regions) began a race in memory of a fellow employee, Randy Baker, who died of cancer. The Randy Baker 8K was conducted for two years, with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. In 1986, the Conway Kiwanis Club approached Regions Bank, and the two races were combined. Regions Bank has served as primary sponsor of the race ever since, and each year the Toad Suck Daze Run is held in memory of Randy Baker, with proceeds benefiting nonprofit agencies in the Faulkner County community. Today, the Run includes both a 10K and a 5K Run/Walk, a wheelchair event, a Tadpole Trot for children aged 4-12, and the 10K is a Grand Prix Series Event.

About Toad Suck Daze Since 1982, the Toad Suck Daze festival has been a springtime tradition in the Conway, Arkansas, area. It began on the banks of the Arkansas River in a nearby township named “Toad Suck” before moving to its current location in downtown Conway 25 years ago. Each year during the first weekend in May, more than 100,000 people gather in the streets of downtown Conway for Toad Suck Daze. The free-admission, family festival has something for all ages: local and national musical entertainment, retail vendors and arts and crafts booths, carnival rides, children’s activities, and of course, the World Championship Toad Races starring our amphibious friends. Several festival-sanctioned events sponsored by local nonprofit organizations take place throughout the weekend as well, including a 10K/5K race and the Tour de Toad bicycle race. Perhaps what is most significant about the weirdly named festival is its commitment to education. In 1985, Toad Suck Daze awarded its first college scholarship. Since then, the festival has contributed more than $1.7 million to scholarships, scholarship endowments, and more recently, preschool funding. In addition, Toad Suck Daze contributes funds to support projects in downtown Conway. What does “Toad Suck” mean anyway? Long ago, steamboats traveled the Arkansas River when the water was at the right depth. When it wasn’t, the captains and their crew tied up to wait where the Toad Suck Lock and Dam now spans the river. While they waited, they refreshed themselves at the local tavern there, to the dismay of the folks living nearby, who said: “They suck on the bottle ’til they swell up like toads.” Hence, the name Toad Suck. The tavern is long gone, but the legend and fun live on at Toad Suck Daze. www.thecabin.net - 23

This dog is filled with savory chili, tasty sautéed onions and bell peppers deglazed with golden balsamic vinegar, relish, and – who could forget – that delicious Petit Jean hot dog, all topped with smoked cheddar, jalapenos, and crispy bacon bits.
Ingredients: ¼ cup onions and bell peppers olive oil 1-3 tablespoons golden balsamic vinegar 1 Petit Jean hot dog 1 hot dog bun 1 tablespoon dill relish #18 scoop of Petit Jean chili 2 tablespoons Petit Jean smoked cheddar (shredded) 4 jalapeño slices thick-sliced Petit Jean bacon (cut into bits) Directions: 1.
