HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INTO SKIING? I got into skiing in 1979 after meeting a group of locals from Cooma. They took me up to Thredbo and pushed me down “The Bluff” telling me skiing was easy.

WHAT WAS IT ABOUT SKIING THAT “HOOKED YOU IN”? The adrenalin and time with my mates have always been the highlights of skiing for me – and they still are.

6 YOGA POSES FOR THE SNOW SEASON Snowsports and Yoga couldn’t be more different yet combined they are symbiotic. Yoga is fantastic for enhancing your performance on the slopes, warding off injury, addressing the niggling aches and pains and keeping you focused and mindful. Here our resident yogi Emma gives us her top 6 poses for the season.

1. STANDING FORWARD BEND

4. FORWARD KNEELING LUNGE

Skiing and snowboarding can result in overdeveloped quadriceps leaving your hamstrings tightened and shortened. This pose is a must for lengthening out the back of your legs and your spine.

Ideal for both skiers and snowboarders, this pose opens up your hip flexors, the deep psoas muscle, which in turn improves posture and lower back stability, tones the glutes and improves calf flexibility.

2. CHAIR POSE

5. PIGEON POSE

If you ski, you’re basically in this position all day on the slopes. So this pose is great for warming up and building strength in your quadriceps.

Perfect after a full day on the slopes, the pigeon pose opens up your hip flexors, while also stretching your thighs, gluteus medius and maximus plus the piriformis.

3. BUTTERFLY POSE

6. WARRIOR 1 POSE

This restorative pose releases and stretches your inner thighs and adductors whilst toning the buttocks and strengthening your core.

This is a great all-rounder pose that stretches your hip flexors and hamstrings on the back leg whilst strengthening your feet, ankles, glutes and quads on the front leg.
