BENDIGO Bank staff will be “flat out” at this year’s King of the Mountain event but in town, not up the mountain.

As sponsors of the main race, the Bendigo Bank International Mountain Challenge, Bendigo Bank Branch Staff and Community Bank Directors will be in Pomona to present medals, hand out water and provide gift bags to competitors.

Local Community Bank Chairperson, Trish Radge, said KOM is a highlight in their event calendar.

“The whole day is loads of fun, and the participants are inspirational. I can climb the mountain in 45 minutes but that just gets me to the top. To watch the runners come tearing down the hill with the winner over the line in 27 minutes is incredible.”

Since 2010, Bendigo Bank has been supporting King of the Mountain and this year, the Community

Bank has provided $6000 to Cooroy Pomona Lions Club to hire sound equipment, timing devices, fencing and to purchase race bibs, trophies, and medals.

“As a Community Bank, we give back up to 80 percent of our profits to the local community. The people of Cooroy and Pomona who bank with Bendigo Bank enable us to fund the mountain challenge. The more people bank with us, the more we can give back,” said Ms Radge.

The Bendigo Bank International Mountain Challenge is a highlight of the Pomona King of the Mountain festival that is held on Sunday 24 July.
