Award for Cooroy Chamber of Commerce COOROY Chamber of Commerce has just received the Excellence Award for Community Enrichment Initiatives – Queensland in the APAC Insider Australian Enterprise Awards. “This is a fantastic recognition for a very hard working and dedicated group of volunteers. It just goes to show what can be achieved when the community works together. Well done to everyone who has ever volunteered their time, you are all winners and have made a wonderful difference to our community,” said Cooroy Chamber of Commerce President, Danielle Taylor. The award is well deserved considering the sheer amount of work that the volunteer Chamber of Commerce do for the community. They run the Cooroy website, the Cooroy Facebook page and the Cooroy App all of which are valuable communication tools for the community. Every year they produce the “Kurui: Your Guide to Cooroy” which has 5000 copies printed and distributed throughout Sunshine Coast, Noosa and Gympie. This is a great little booklet with all sorts of information about Cooroy and is loved by locals and visitors alike. They run two free community events in Cooroy, Christmas in Cooroy and the Australian Body Art Festival. Both of which are fantastic social activities that also attract thousands of people to town and provide the community with economic benefits as well as

enhance the town’s already strong community spirit. They sponsor several other events including Cooroy Fusion, ABW at Noosa District High School and Cooroy Originals. They also decorate town at Christmas time making the Christmas spirit shine bright in Cooroy! Over the years, they’ve raised hundreds of thousands of dollars through grants that has been directly invested in the town. The most recent of which is the $200,000 CCTV project that was funded by the Australian Government and was rolled out earlier in the year now providing enhanced safety for the community and providing the Cooroy Police with a valuable resource for fighting crime. They run public meetings and forums when needed such as Meet the Candidates Nights around election times as well as hosting networking nights, workshops and the annual Dinner with the Mayor. They also are a voice for Cooroy with all levels of government and are often invited to serve on focus groups and committees on a large range of issues. The Cooroy Chamber of Commerce is a very strong, long-running Chamber that not only focusses on business but also the needs of the community. They are a not for profit community organisation and have achieved all of this through volunteer effort. It’s just one more thing that we can be proud of in Cooroy!

COOROY’S annual Fusion Festival is offering up a fusion of tastes this year with Cooroy Supa IGA sponsoring a “Tastes of the Hinterland” marquee on Saturday 13 May. “Cooroy Fusion is all about the best that Cooroy and the Noosa hinterland has to offer and a marquee that will showcase local food producers is a perfect way to do just that,” ex-

plained Chris Bell, Chairperson of Cooroy Fusion committee. “Cooroy Supa IGA are wonderful supporters of local products and the Tastes of the Hinterland marquee will enable people to taste test a variety of foods that are produced locally. Last year, there were tastings from Noosa Meat Centre, Wimmers Soft

Drinks, Wattle Valley Dips and Queensland Yoghurt to name a few. We are looking forward to seeing which local companies will be showcased this year!” Cooroy Supa IGA also sponsor some children’s entertainment which means the kids can be kept entertained while the parents get into the serious business of treating their taste buds. Biggest and best woodworking show THE Cooroora Wood workers club is holding its 28 th annual Wood and Craft Show on Friday 12th May and Saturday 13th May. For most of the previous 27 years the show was held at the Cooroy Memorial Hall. But with the closure of the Hall early last year the show in May 2016 was held at the clubhouse in the Lowermill Precinct. Thanks to the support given

by both Noosa Council and the Fusion Festival the show was a great success. The organisers are confident that the Cooroora Wood and Craft Show 2017 which will again be held at the Lowermill Precinct surrounding the clubhouse and workshops, will be the best show ever. The heart of the show is always the competitions where regional wood-

working clubs compete in the Interclub Competition and school students compete in the Schools Competition. As well club members compete in their own internal Woodcraft Competition. All these competitions have valuable prizes over a whole range of wood working activities. Most importantly the competitions promote the skills of

SUNDAY March 5 th was Clean Up Australia Day and once again NICA volunteers manned the 28 registration sites to sign up over 400 people willing to grab a bag and take to the streets, parks, creeks and bushland to Clean Up Noosa and surrounds. This year volunteers collected over 7.2 tonnes of discarded items with around 300 bags of litter collected from our local environment across the region. A great effort with a number of sites commenting that the volume of litter was again showing signs of a decrease, but sadly around 5 tonnes of illegal dumping was cleaned up from Yurol Forest and Tewantin National Park bushland reserves yet again. The hinterland was once again fully behind Clean Up Australia Day with sites in Kin Kin, Cooran, Cooroy, Eumundi, Boreen Point, Federal, Tinbeerwah and the usual big turn out in Pomona. There was a flotilla of watercraft on Noosa River led by the NICA River Rangers, Kayak Noosa and a crew of divers and snorkelers supported by

the Coast Guard collecting fishing line, lures, sinkers and litter that has found its way into the river. Noosa Sea Scouts and Noosa Rotary Club were involved once again, and the Sunshine Coast 4WD Club got stuck in tackling illegal dumping sites in Yurol Forest near Pomona. Illegal dump sites were once again a major focus this year with the bushland still being used by some as a ‘free‘ alternative to Council facilities where regularly dumped items such as whitegoods can be disposed of at no cost or saleable items donated to Briteside’s recycled goods shop supporting a local

not for profit organisation. It was disappointing to see the number of tyres being dumped in our bushland with almost 100 tyres collected for proper disposal. Clean Up Australia Day in Noosa would not be a success without the work of the volunteers at NICA (Noosa Integrated Catchment Association) who organise all of the logistics for the day and make sure that the rubbish collected gets taken away for proper disposal and all the data is recorded. It also support of the Noosa Council and local businesses. All volunteers regis-

tered at Noosa sites once again went into a draw for prizes generously donated by The Sofitel Noosa Pacific and Peppers Noosa Resorts. We would also like to thank Allcott Hire and the team from Cleanaway that always put in a major effort to facilitate us with skip bins and make sure that all of the waste collected is weighed and major items recycled where possible at Eumundi Rd. Volunteers were once again provided with lunch at Noosaville Lions Park with thanks to the Noosa Lions Club after the event or at one of the BBQs hosted by site supervisors

at some of the hinterland sites. A special thank you once again to all of the NICA volunteer supervisors that gave up their time to coordinate sites again this year, with many having been a part of Clean Up Day for over 10 years. We couldn’t do it without their support and dedication. And special thanks to NICA President Tony Haslam and volunteer Roger Kelly that made sure all the rubbish and bags collected made it to a skip bin. As always, many thanks to those that took part and made the effort in cleaning up of our beautiful part of Australia. Cr Joe Jurisevic

You can only hope and pray Can anyone be really sure about the next election, There seems to be a very wide candidate selection. Pauline Hanson, Labor, Liberal, the Greens, Some new bloods and of course the usual has-beens. All getting, or giving the golden preferences, Many with the experience of stumbling adolescents. One can’t rely on anyone, trying to be rational, The Libs are getting a bit ‘iffy” with the coat tail nationals. Turnbull is at war with the nagging Abbott, Their slanging matches could become a habit. Some seem to think the whole thing doesn’t matter, And are liable to hop into the political bed with the vocal Bob Katter. All of them apparently are afraid of the red-headed One Nation, She’s certainly stirred up a wave of consternation. I’ve lived many years, survived lots of real life, But I’m tired of all this political strife. The whole thing is non productive, ugly, and a mess, It feels as though we’re governed by God and by guess. This beautiful country could be brought to its knees, By non-caring, incompetent self-serving MPs, Whom nobody trusts, respects, or believes.

The economic climate, doom and gloom, shares are up, then down again. Large, well known companies declaring big losses... There’s no doubt that everyone’s financial situation is more “top of mind” at the moment. In August 2008, the official cash rate was 7.25%. We’re now at the end of March 2017 and that rate now sits at 1.50%. With a drop of 5.75% this drop has been great for many home loan customers and it has provided relief for their household budgets. The drop is significant, for example: If you had a home loan of $300,000 and you have seen this 5.75% reduction, the payments on your loan from September compared to now have probably dropped by close to $332 per week or $1,438 per month. Frustration continues to be felt by those on fixed rates, but break costs can be costly. It’s important you talk to your bank about these and enquire about your options as they can explain the cost to you. It almost seems methodical that people look to the banks to lay blame for problems in the economic community. “Bank bashing” can be almost categorised as a national pastime in Australia. But is it really justified? International banks and financial institutions around the world have not fared well as they have been operating in a less regulated banking environment compared to Australian standards. They have also perhaps been lured into non-traditional banking practices. These practices that now have proven unprofitable and sometimes unethical. While all this has been going on internationally our Australian banks have generally kept on following traditional banking practices, taking in deposits and then lending out those funds as home/ investment loans. Conservative, but practices they would now be thankful for.

Maybe we could be happy that our banks and consequently we (the customer) are not facing the same situations as our international banking colleagues! news Super changes are coming – 2 things you can do now

COOROY RAG

Chad Monroe Certified Financial Planner® of Provision Wealth Management* WHILE the government will reduce the amount of money you can put into super from 1 July 2017, the good news is that you could still take advantage of opportunities before the financial year ends. With new regulations set to become part of Australian superannuation law, some of the rules around super contributions and the tax breaks available will change from 1 July 2017. 4 things that are changing • Initially, the government planned to introduce a $500,000 lifetime cap on after-tax (nonconcessional) super contributions, which it will no longer be implementing. Instead, an annual aftertax contributions cap of $100,000 will be put in place, replacing the current cap of $180,000. Those under age 65 will still have the ability to bring forward three years’ worth of aftertax super contributions, with a maximum of $300,000 under the bringforward rules. • The before-tax (concessional) contributions cap will decrease from $30,000 (or $35,000 if you’re turning 50 years of age or older this financial year) to $25,000 per

year for everyone, irrespective of age. • If you’re converting your super into a pension to derive an income in retirement you’ll be restricted to a limit of $1.6 million in your tax-free pension account, not including subsequent earnings. If you already have a balance above that, the excess will need to be placed back into the super accumulation phase, where earnings will be taxed at the concessional rate of 15%, or taken out of super completely. • Investment earnings on super fund assets that support a pension are currently tax free. However, this will no longer apply to transition to retirement (TTR) income streams. Earnings on fund assets supporting a TTR income stream will be subject to the same maximum 15% tax rate that applies to accumulation funds. Two things you can do now: Contribute more in before-tax super contributions: The before-tax super contributions cap will be reduced from $30,000 per year (or $35,000 if you’re turning 50 or over before 1 July 2017) to

$25,000 per year, for everyone, irrespective of age. This means, depending on your circumstances, there is an opportunity to contribute an additional $5,000 (or $10,000 if you’re turning 50 or over) in before-tax super contributions than what will be possible before the cap is lowered at the end of the 2016 financial year. Contribute more in aftertax super contributions: The after-tax super contributions cap will decrease from $180,000 per year to $100,000 per year. This means you could contribute $80,000 more in after-tax super contributions than what will be possible when the after-tax super contributions cap is reduced on 1 July 2017. If you’re under age 65, you could also bring forward three years’ worth of after-tax contributions up to a maximum of $540,000, which is much higher than the $300,000 limit that will apply from the 2017 financial year. Australians are living longer and with many needing to fund a longer retirement as a result, adding to your super could make a difference to the lifestyle you lead in the

years after you finish working. To put it into perspective, September 2016 figures, provided by the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia, show individuals and couples, around age 65, who are looking to retire today, need an annual budget of $43,372 and $59,619 respectively to fund a comfortable lifestyle – that’s assuming they own their home outright and are in relatively good health.1 By comparison, the maximum annual Age Pension rate for a single and couple is currently $22,804 and $34,382 respectively2, keeping in mind not everyone is eligible for government assistance. Other considerations • If you contribute money to super that exceeds the super cap amounts, it will be taxed at a higher rate and an interest penalty will apply. You can find out more at the ATO website. • The value of your investment in super can go up and down. Before making extra contributions to your super, make sure you understand and are comfortable with any risks

Now OPEN at NOOSA CIVIC

associated with your chosen investment option. • The government sets general rules about when you can access your super. Generally, you can access it when you’ve retired and reached your preservation age, which will be between 55 and 60 depending on when you were born. • There are other ways to help boost your super. Learn more. There may also be benefits to making spouse contributions. To find out how reforms to the superannuation system could affect you, speak to us today on 07 5447 7740. We will be hosting an information seminar in April, details will be published in the next edition of the Cooroy Rag. Courage to care: Reader’s Theatre Free Event coming to Cooroy RSL, Monday April 24, performance commences 11am. Cooroy RSL has been fortunate to secure a unique event just in time for ANZAC Day. Central Qld University nursing students, as part of their studies have been engaging with history as well as nursing study by learning about the role of nursing during WW1. The dramatic form of Readers’ Theatre was chosen to allow for the creative sharing of narratives and information. The final year nurses involved in the Readers’ Theatre will be

reading WW1 soldier’s letters aloud in what is expected to be a rewarding and enlightening for the audience. Nurses and student nurses participating in this project have deepened their professional self-understanding and it is hoped that our audience will gain a valuable insight into nursing, women’s history and another side of national ANZAC history. This event will be free of charge and open to the Cooroy Community to attend as well as RSL members.

Cooroy Community Hall update THE hall committee has put together two detailed proposals to save our hall. Both the building plan, which details the repairs and renovations that will be carried out by community volunteers, and the business plan, which sets out the future uses of the hall, will be considered by Noosa Council shortly. Fingers crossed!

It’s good to have a laugh with your friends but we shouldn’t make fun of their differences and we should never be cruel. Kookoo is a kind and well-loved kookaburra- famous for entertaining all of the bush creatures with his funny stories. One day Kookoo

runs out of kind stories to tell so he turns to teasing and making fun of the other animals. This makes all of the bush creatures very sad. Kookoo was no longer funny, he was just a show-off. Refusing to listen to the wise words of his uncle, Kookoo finds himself alone and ignored by his friends. Even his best friend Billay couldn’t help him. When he finally listens to the sound of his own laughter it’s a very unhappy sound. He remembers his uncle’s words, ‘Kindness is like a boomerang - if you throw it often, it comes back often...’ Finally, Kookoo understands and from that day on, his kind and funny stories once again fill the bush. Fun, food and friendship

Eumundi Rotary Main raffle winner Heidi Jenkins with Councillor Greg Rogerson THE Eumundi and District community came together on Sunday 12th March in a joyful celebration of those things that make life good on the Sunshine Coast and to raise money for palliative care in our region. The Carnivale theme for the Eumundi Rotary Long Lunch was a hit with guests. Eumundi Rotarians have been working for months bringing together support from community groups, other local Rotary Clubs and local businesses who either gave of their time and energy or made generous donations towards staging the event. Three hundred and twelve guests enjoyed the fine food prepared by local chefs. Three courses of shared platters were served between sparkling performances by our very own and much loved Doo Wop Dolls and charity “Queen Melony Brests. Lessons from past

events and careful attention to detail ensured an afternoon of good cheer for those who generously bought tickets for the lunch and participated in the raffles. A cooking demonstration by celebrity chef Matt Golinski highlighted the gourmet feel of the event- complementing the creative platters prepared by Andy Dundas of Figtree restaurant, Ned Nolan of Bohemian Bungalow and a signature duck pate by Max Porter. The event raised approximately $18,000 to be presented largely to Katie Rose Cottage Ltd with donations also going to Cittamani and Humming Bird House. Many thanks to our major sponsors showing generosity and commitment to our community. Want to be part of the next event or join Rotary in other community service activities? Please phone Greg on 0431 222 597.

APRIL 5TH - APRIL 17TH

Hop in for Great Specials

WELL known for its diverse creative offerings, the 2017 Tall Trees Art Festival is again inviting local artists to be a part of the community led event in the Noosa Hinterland. Held in the picturesque township of Cooran, the event aims to promote and bring together local artistic talent and provide a unique opportunity for artists to share their work in a public space and offer them for sale over the busy weekend to patrons from near and afar. Event organiser Mia Hacker says the high quality of work produced by local artists in the hinterland is exciting and a wide variety of artistic mediums is again expected to attract the attention of an artistically supportive community and event patrons. ‘It is a real pleasure for us to share in the enthusiasm for creative pursuits in this community and to offer local artists the opportunity to exhibit their work and we really enjoy curating the pieces through a subjective and sensitive process of deliberation as we seek to identify the artist’s in-

spiration’, she said. For the first time, this year’s event will take place at multiple venues in Cooran and be a real collaboration between local businesses and the community. The event’s opening night will occur on Friday night the 30th June at a ‘meet and greet’ with artists and continue until 5pm on Sunday 2nd June. Residents of Cooran and surrounding hinterland areas are encouraged to contribute and to share their creative pursuits as experiential, emerging, part-time or experienced artists. The closing date for Expressions of Interest is May 1st 2017 and artists of all creative mediums are encouraged to apply. Please register your interest via email to talltreesart@internode.on.net with your contact info and if possible, a sample photo of your artwork. Alternatively, you can contact Mia Hacker on 0437 721 966. Visit Tall Trees Art Exhibition on Facebook for more details.

Silat or more specifically Perisai Diri Silat (PD as we like to call it) is an Indonesian Martial Art with its origins going back to Kung Fu. PD is a unique Indonesian Martial Art utilising natural reflexes to dangerous situations. PD is characterised as being practical, with techniques that adhere to the natural movement of the human body, resulting in a

holistic system of self-defence that is simple in application and maintains effectiveness. The ability to train with full force and limited contact makes PD perfect for all ages, gender and physical levels. Ladies KICKFIT classes is high intensity, interval training utilising Martial Arts techniques for a great all body workout, suitable for any fitness levels. Go at your own pace

and have fun! Classes are starting soon and there are limited spaces so call now to book in. About the instructor: Marcel started Judo at the age of 6 but did not get serious with martial arts until the age of 13 where he began Taekwondo. In Taekwondo, he competed for South Australia for many years as a heavy weight and this culminated in winning the Australian Heavy Weight Championship in 1993 and repre-

senting Australia at the World Championships in Madison Square Gardens later that year. After 15 years of Taekwondo and attaining the rank of 3rd Dan he started Silat Perisai Diri in Adelaide. He represented Australia in 2004 winning gold at the World championships in Bali and now finds himself in Queensland teaching this fascinating Martial Art in Cooroy. Marcel has graded in Indonesia and been the Team Coach for the last two world championships in Indonesia. Cooroy Gymnastics Club undertakes major upgrade

THE Cooroy Gymnastics Club has been undergoing a process of upgrades and equipment renewals over the past 18 months, including, a completely new complex layout to maximise usability. This week saw the apex of the apparatus replacements with a new international standard competition floor area. The new floor area was funded under a grant from the Queensland Government’s, “get in the game” program. The Queensland Government provided $59,743 to Cooroy Gymnastics Club to upgrade existing flooring to support gymnastics at Cooroy to increase Queenslanders participation in sport and recreation activities. The new competition standard floor area is larger and is fully sprung to facilitate the

growth in our competitive program. The high standard of equipment is enabling gymnasts to perform higher level skills. The new Spieth competition floor is the same floor used at World Championships and the Olympic competition. The floor installation has been timely as Cooroy has two competitors competing in the Queensland Senior State Championships in Brisbane from Friday April 7th until Monday April 10th. Kyle McCartney, level 10 and Finlay Jones, level 7 will use the new floor to develop new and improved skills on floor including layout twisting elements. Five brave Noosa District State High School students supported the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave by having their hair shaven off by a local hairdresser during the lunch break today. Friends, peers and teachers of the students sponsored their drastic haircuts, with all proceeds from today’s event supporting those faced with blood cancer. Students Deanne Jackson, Joa Darmansjah, Kyle Jervis, Jack Townsend and Josh Baldry took to the stage in the school hall to have their hair publicly shaven, with their friends, peers and teachers cheering them on. The students were a little scared and emotional leading up to their shave, but they did all those in the jubilant crowd very proud by seeing the shave through and sporting their new, stylish looks triumphantly. Year 12 student Josh Baldry commented on how much cooler his head felt on the hot, humid afternoon after his very thick head of hair was removed. Year 10 student Deanne Jackson was a little apprehensive about shaving off her long, blonde locks, but she courageously saw the big change through, much to the delight of her friends who

watched the whole process on in awe. “She’s so brave. I wish I could do that,” Year 10 student Harriet Small said. A number of students and staff opted to have their hair coloured crazy shades of pink, purple, blue and green in solidarity for the cause. The Leukaemia Foundation are very grateful for NDSHS’s continued support of this very worthwhile cause.

Time to get your flu shot The flu is a contagious respiratory disease that can lead to serious complications, hospitalization, or even death. Anyone can get the flu, and getting a flu vaccine is the single best way to protect yourself and your family. Even healthy people can get very sick from the flu and spread it to friends and loved ones. Everyone 6 months of age and older is recommended to get vaccinated against the flu every year. Flu activity is unpredictable but often peaks in late winter. And although there are many different flu viruses, the yearly flu vaccine protects against the viruses that research suggests will be most common that flu season. Flu-like symptoms may include: fever and/or chills; cough; sore throat; runny or stuffy nose; body aches and headache; fatigue. Some people also may have vomiting and diarrhea. People may be infected with the flu, and have respiratory symptoms without a fever.

Anyone can get the flu, but some people are at greater risk for serious flu-related complications, like pneumonia. For those at greater risk for complications, getting the flu vaccine is especially important. Some of the groups at greater risk include: • Children younger than 5 years old, but especially children younger than 2 years old • Pregnant women • People with certain medical conditions like asthma, diabetes, or heart and lung disease • People 65 years and older It also is important to get vaccinated if you care for anyone in these high risk groups, including babies younger than 6 months because they are too young to get vaccinated themselves. Getting the flu vaccine is simple, and it’s the most important thing you can do to protect yourself and your family from the flu. Talk to your local LiveLife Pharmacist amount your annual flu vaccine.

HISTORIC home on 1/2 acre with town water, and walk to town. The current owners have enjoyed this property for over 55 years and have watched Cooran develop into a lovely country community. Originally there was three pubs in Cooran back when the area was a thriving centre for timber cutters, dairies and small crops. Now it’s a lifestyle property option with larger blocks with town services and a nice village with post office, shops, Lic restaurant and sporting venues. The primary school is highly regarded by local families and life is good in Cooran. This particular house is one of the tidiest and well-kept Queenslander homes you will find. The large home of 5 bedrooms , (which included two large sleep outs ) will send you back to your childhood. Nothing has the charm of a Queenslander with their high ceilings and VJ walls, this home is currently carpeted in living areas, and underneath you will find beautiful wide floorboards. Over the years the owners have replaced the iron roof, electrical wiring and stumps. The large double yard has great gardens and backs onto a small farm. The opportunity for an astute buyer to subdivide and sell one of the blocks (stca) may make this a very affordable package, or better still a great superannuation nest egg. If you love Queenslanders and want to buy one to add your touches, without having to take on a major reno, this property is impossible to beat, and will not disappoint. Please call Paul Bielby of Team Hinterland on 0437 346 256 to arrange your inspection.

Bed 4; Bath 2; Car 4; 15.9 acres Price: Offers over $419,000 On the Pomona side of fabulous Kin Kin and just 1.5 km from the Village is a 15 acre farmlet, perfect for a few horses or cattle, with high paddocks featuring sensational views and an elevated second potential house site. The original farmhouse has 4 bedrooms, beautiful timber floors and a relaxing rear veranda with ramp access, a great space to sit and enjoy privacy and peace. Inside is comfortable and functional and there are exposed rafters in the front third of the house due to a renovation in the 90’s. A second bathroom via the rear veranda has a second shower and doubles as a spacious laundry. There are 2 useful 6m x 7m sheds with space to fit 4 cars undercover and one has a high roof, perfect for a caravan or horse float. The superb thing about this property is the usable land. Next to the house and sheds is a chook yard, heaps of room for vegie gardens and a mature home orchard including mango, orange, guava and mulberry, all growing in fertile soil. An adjacent fenced horse paddock sits below an-

other huge paddock, which is gently sloping and approximately 3 acres itself. Excellent pastures all irrigated via a small dam connected to a large 5,000 gallon concrete water tank positioned high up in the paddock. On the southern boundary is another small dam next to a grassy access track, which is drivable in dry weather and leads to a high ridgeline with even better views than below. A top spot for a cabin with 360 degree vistas and well over 100 meters above sea level. Kin Kin has a fantastic primary school, a vibrant local café / general store and the historic Country Life Hotel, a central meeting spot for day trippers and those fortunate enough to discover the Noosa Tracks and Trails network. A lot on offer at a sensible price makes this property well worth a look and with the new Noosa Tourist Route to Kin Kin via Tewantin now complete, watch this once sleepy town grow and prosper in the years to come. The opportunities are here now, come along to the open homes or call for a private inspection. Contact Sam or Phil Hargrave 0425 777 121, 0417 750 507, Hargrave Real Estate.

Charming steel cottage, private with stunning views, 3.4kw solar, battery backup + generator, combustion heater, raked ceilings, fans, large shed with office & workshop, 6 dams, fenced into 11 paddocks, ideal for cell grazing, currently running 50 cattle + progeny from improved pastures water available to all paddocks, some spring fed dams, steel cattle yards with head bale, storage container, removeable caretakers cottage, market gardens, self sufficient with power passing nearby, 8 mins from cooroy with no near neighbours. All the hard work has been done, ready for you to move in and enjoy – your choice live off the grid or take advantage of the power that passes nearby. Parcels this size and quality near Noosa rarely come onto the market. This is a genuine productive farm, not just a lifestyle farm. Rotational grazing through cells has allowed the owners to run 50 head of adult cattle plus their calves through the recent drought, the worst in 100 years and they did extremely well. They came out of the drought actually fat and the calves were big and heavy. Typically, they turn off about 30 calves a year. Additional to the rental income and the cattle, the property also has a small stand of farm forestry timber which includes Hoop Pines, Bunya Pines, Tallowwood and Gympie Messmate. Those trees are approx. 20 years mature. Motivated sellers have priced this one to sell. Contact Murray Brown 0419 491 395 - Hinternoosa.com.au, 5447 7000.

Bed 4; Bath 2; Car 5; 4449sqm Price: $615,000 This is one of the finer small acreages, 4449m2, on the market at the moment. Lovingly maintained and beautifully presented with a remote control entry through a fully dog fenced perimeter, the single level 4 bedroom home is set well back from the road. Wide double door entry with high ceilings throughout, the neutral colour palette will suit any style. The central kitchen has a marble look bench top, stainless steel appliances with gas cooking and an electric oven. An open plan family room and dining area flow out to the covered outdoor entertaining area. There is also a second lounge area, or parents retreat space depending on your family’s needs. The large air conditioned main bedroom has an ensuite with twin basins and a good size robe. Two of the other bedrooms are also air conditioned whilst the 4th bedroom would also be ideal as a home office/study. Fully insulated in the roof and tinted windows with security screens, and solar hot water makes this home extremely liveable in all weather. On top of the double garage with direct internal access to the home there is a steel framed and insulated shed set to the back of the block. With an enclosed area of 9 x 7.5m plus a 6 x 3m extra carport, this shed is big enough for all your storage needs! To complete the picture the grassed land is easy care with a gentle slope and several varieties of fruit trees. Contact Jeanette Catalano, 0422 923 851 - Hinternoosa.com.au, 5447 7000.

Junior Pirates welcome Captain Jack to Cooroy

CAPTAIN Jack visited Cooroy? Jack Reed that is. It’s not every day young players get one-on-one time with a famous footy player. That chance arrived this week for a number of Noosa Pirates juniors, when the recently-retired Brisbane Bronco and Rugby League international visited training at Cooroy. Jack has moved to the Sunshine Coast in a new role created by the

Brisbane Broncos and Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club. His role includes working with players in the Sunshine Coast region and coordinating school and junior club-based rugby league programs. Additionally, Jack will help drive communitybased programs and offer support and guid-

ance to charities when his role allows. He is currently working with Noosa Pirates senior coach, Mick Duff on a player welfare program to be rolled out through Noosa’s schools. The Noosa Pirates have already seen the rewards of Jack’s presence on the coast. During the recent Justin Hodges Nines competi-

tion, Jack got out to local schools coaching and promoting the game of Rugby League and the Noosa Club. This promotion of the game has seen new players sign on at the Pirates for the 2017 season. One of the Noosa Pirates’ sponsors for 2017 is the Cooroy Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank. Man-

ager, Geoff Edwards was chuffed to be invited along to meet Jack and see him in action with the kids. “He was amazing with the kids. Jack gave time, energy and patience and looks like he could still play for the Broncs this weekend!” Geoff said. “It was a real thrill to connect with him and hear about this new chapter in his life and what it will bring the youngsters the coast and our junior footballers. It just reinforces to all of us the importance of sport with the young people in our community. I’m delighted we’re able to support the Pirates again this season,” Geoff added. If you’re interested in playing Rugby League with the Noosa Pirates this season or learning more about the many opportunities for boys and girls in the greatest game of all, call 0401 987 039 or you can register online at www.ndjrl.com.au.
