Working with the local Kabi Kabi people has the potential for an indigenous food walk.” In 1990, Noosa Landcare came into being when one of the key issues at the time was against the monoculture plantations in Yurol Forest. “Now 30 years later, those trees have been removed and we’re going to be revegetating the land that we first protested about, transitioning it to National Parks, which are the highest protection that we can get.”

THE Planning and Environment Court has ruled against Council’s application to restrict quarry truck movements during school bus hours on the Pomona Kin Kin Road. Noosa Council’s application to the Planning and Environment Court for interim enforcement orders against quarry operator Cordwell Resources, was heard early in November with the judgment delivered on 29 November by His Honour Judge Long SC. Judge Long SC told the court that he would forward an analysis for his reasons to the two parties in coming days. Mayor Clare Stewart said that while disappointed with the outcome, Council accepted the decision by His Honour Judge Long SC. “It’s extremely tough for the community and Council to hear the judgment, but we must accept the umpire’s decision,” Mayor Stewart said. “But it should be noted that this is not the final step in Council’s enforcement action and we will continue to stand with the community,” she said. Council will now progress its application to the Planning and Environment Court, seeking full enforcement orders that are centred on alleged breaches by the Quarry operator and thereby seek to address the intensification of use issues. Acting CEO Larry Sengstock said that Council remained committed to the court action. “Final enforcement orders will be sought requiring the operators to limit the number of quarry trucks per day, avoid convoying and ensure movements are within the operating hours, with all truck loads covered,” Mr Sengstock said. The final hearing will take place over three days between 2 and 4 March, 2022.

AFTER 10 years of no haircuts, a local dad has had one of the greatest proportions. Scottie Simpson has said goodbye to the long curls that he has been growing for more than a decade, by shaving his head to raise money for charity. Scottie said that he loved his long hair but not as much as helping people diagnosed with cancer. “My long hair is part of my character and I love head-banging to my rock/ metal music, so this is a big deal for me. "But none of that compares to helping people who have been dealt the news that they have blood cancer. “Forty-seven Australians of any age are diagnosed with blood cancer each day. "This donation will help with accommodation or bills for the families who have moved closer to hospitals or care for treatment that can last months or years. "It is for people trying to adjust their lives after such news.” Scottie underwent the chop at Loco Barber Co. in Gympie for a very special person. “I shaved my head for my Mum, in her memory, as we sadly lost her to breast "cancer.” As Scottie gets used to “head sunburn and weird stuff that touches your head” that he never realised before, it’s not too late to donate.
