Press release April 2, 2004
US Launch of Copenhagen Consensus At noon on April 7 Bjørn Lomborg, Director of Denmark’s national Environmental Assessment Institute and economist Professor Jagdish Bhagwati of Colombia University will launch Copenhagen Consensus 2004 at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. Professors Lomborg and Bhagwati will be joined by Washington correspondent for The Economist Dominic Ziegler and Cambridge University Press United States marketing director Sloane Lederer. Co-sponsored by The Economist, Copenhagen Consensus will see nine top economists – including four Nobel Laureates – prioritize solutions to the greatest challenges facing the world, both environmental and otherwise. The economists will base their judgements upon ten economic papers written expressly for Copenhagen Consensus. The ten papers will be published by Cambridge University Press. This expert panel – which will be represented at the Washington DC launch by Professor Bhagwati – will create a concrete, ranked ‘To Do’ list for policy-makers, showing which problems should be confronted first: combating communicable diseases, climate change, hunger, conflicts, or something else? More details are available from www.copenhagenconsensus.com. Media who wish to attend the US Launch are asked to contact the Media Relations Officer.
