Fighting malnutrition efficiently World Experts Gather to Examine New Research and Discuss Best Practices Government officials, NGOs, private sector representatives, donors and researchers will gather in Nairobi, November 3rd 2009, to examine some of the most cost-effective solutions and innovative approaches to solve the problem of malnutrition. The conference, to be opened by the Prime Minister’s Wife Ida Odinga and Danish Ambassador to Kenya Bo Jensen, will highlight innovative, new research designed to help address the challenge of malnutrition more quickly and effectively. The conference has been organized by Denmark-based international think-tank the Copenhagen Consensus Center and Denmark-based company Gumlink, and will be followed by a second conference in New York, USA, designed to focus world attention on the case for urgently investing more resources in reducing malnutrition. World-renowned public intellectual and Copenhagen Consensus Center Director Dr Bjorn Lomborg will outline the Center’s search for the best solutions to global challenges like malnutrition. Globally recognized malnutrition economist and expert Professor Sue Horton will outline the “best practice” approaches to reduce specific malnutrition problems. New, innovative research will be presented by practitioners working within the field of malnutrition. Audience members will have the opportunity to evaluate the new research that is presented, and an audience vote will result in one author receiving a prize, highlighting the importance of their findings. An expert panel will lead and facilitate discussions. This panel will include Dr Lomborg, Professor Horton, and Regional Nutrition Advisor of UNICEF, Saba Mebrahtu. Head of Nutrition Division of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Terry Wefwafwa will comment, before Danish company Gumlink, a partner in the project, will speak about the potential of Neutraceuticals. Dr Lomborg and Vice President & Regional Director for Africa Helen Keller International, Shawn Baker, will be closing the conference. The conference will take place at Hotel Intercontinental in Nairobi in the Mara South room, from 13.00 pm to 16.45 pm.
