FRIDAY 18/8 HUMAN RIGHTS PROGRAM
RAINBOW SQUARE 14:00 - 14:30 PRIDERADAR
Pride Radar is the flagship report of InterPride showcasing hundreds of Prides around the world. In this workshop Pride Radar will be discussed in depth. While discussing the report and the outcomes we try to answer the question what a global pride movement is and how it needs to develop further. Can we for instance identify key factors for success and how should success be measured? Lastly, the challenges for the future of sustainable Pride movement will be brought to the table. Participants: Frank van Dalen, Liberal International, Michele Irimia-Bernabe, Co-Chair of InterPride’s Human Right and Development Director of NYC Pride. In English. Steak Royal, Regnbuepladsen 3, 1550 Copenhagen V Frank Van Dalen
onary offer you a unique opportunity to change this when we invite you to a workshop in which you’ll help define words that are to be included in The Danish Dictionary. The editors will also discuss how common a word has to be among Danish speakers before it is included in the dictionary, and why some words for different reasons are difficult to describe. Some of the words to be discussed are “heteronormative”, “bear”, and “queer”. In Danish. Steak Royal, Regnbuepladsen 3, 1550 Copenhagen V
15:30 - 16:15 BEING OUT
Being “out” as an LBGTQ person is important to many people, but we all come from different backgrounds, which makes the choice of “coming out” different for everyone depending on context. For example, what does it mean if you’re religious or from a religious family, how “out” you are, and is it important to be out in your work place or among old friends? Do LGBTQ persons bear a responsibility for change to make it easier to be out, or does the responsibility lie with society? This and much more will be discussed in this debate. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
16:15 - 17:00 TRANS HEROES
There has been a lot of focus on trans persons over the last few years, and especially on the Danish healthcare system’s treatment of these persons. With this presentation, Transpolitisk Forum wishes to broaden the representation of trans persons with stories that include strength and unity. “Trans Heroes” is a reading in English and Danish of different texts written by trans persons who have been and are our heroes, role models, and inspirations. The purpose of the presentation is to share trans experiences and the strength we’ve found in texts written by others. In Danish and English. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
14:00 - 14:45 LGBT HEARTACHES
We’ve come a long way in terms of rights in Denmark and in many other countries, but there are still way too many gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and trans persons whose hearts hurt. Loneliness, poor mental wellbeing, suicide, as well as substance and alcohol abuse appear to be serious issues that reveal a huge inequality in our society. A large part of the explanation can be found in homophobia and stigmatisation, but self-harm and a hateful, phobic, racist, and exclusive behaviour is something we reproduce in our own communities. With this debate, we’ll try to get to the bottom of this and attempt to place responsibility and most importantly find ways to include more kindness in our communities. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
14:30 - 15:15 PARENTS OF TRANSGENDER CHILDREN
Being a parent of a transgender child (of any age) – how do we react and tackle it? Does it matter when we learn about it? How we learn about it? And how we react? At this event, parents talk about and answer question about thoughts such as loss, happiness, perplexity, love, support, doubt, recognition, fear, knowledge, network, acceptance, possibilities for help and much more. In Danish. Steak Royal, Regnbuepladsen 3, 1550 Copenhagen V
14:45 - 15:30 #SICKSYSTEM TODAY
Amnesty and the trans community’s campaign #SygtSystem was only the beginning of a long and difficult fight for transgender persons’ rights in Denmark. Join us when we talk about our perspective on which battles we must fight in the future, and how different organisations can work together to achieve real results for transgender persons in Denmark. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
15:15 - 16:00 WORKSHOP: WHAT SHOULD THE DICTIONARY SAY?
Do you find that the language of dictionaries is often too constrictive and single-minded? Copenhagen Pride and two editors from The Danish Dicti12
17:00 - 17:45 HORMONE BLOCKERS TO SLOW DOWN PUBERTY DEVELOPMENT
Are hormone blockers dangerous? Why is this treatment not offered as a first choice when it can prevent irreversible harm from an unwanted puberty? FSTB hosts a panel debate on the subject. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
17:45 - 18:30 CONSEQUENCES OF ACTIVISM
Is the tone in activist debates too harsh? You can easily put your foot in your mouth when talking to or about people from the LGBTQIA community. It can be difficult to get a grip on the different terms, words, and sayings that define LGBTQIA persons and communities. We’ve invited a panel of experienced debaters to talk about how they meet new and less experienced debaters and to discuss how an experienced debater makes sure their knowledge is shared in the best possible way. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
18:30 - 19:15 WHEN THE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER DOES NOT FIT
Are children and adolescents harmed by legal sex change or? FSTB hosts a debate discussing legal sex change for children and adolescents. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
19:15 - 20:00 WHY ARE SOME COUNTRIES PROGRESSIVE IN LGBTQ ISSUES AND SOME THE OPPOSITE?
What does the international development of LGBTQ persons’ situation look like, and why does it move in different directions? What factors influence a society’s treatment of LGBTQ persons and how do Danish NGO’s tackle the different structures, challenges, and possibilities of different societies? Danish AIDS-Foundation LGBT Denmark, Sex & Samfund, and Amnesty International Denmark hosts a debate about what influences the differentiated development and how we can work constructively with the conditions of the societies that we work with. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
