WEDNESDAY 16/8 HUMAN RIGHTS PROGRAM
RAINBOW SQUARE 14:00 - 14:45 INFECTION-FREE HIV – WELL TREATED HIV DOES NOT CONTAMINATE (U=U)
In March, leading researchers and other global spokespersons stated that having unmeasurable HIV means that you cannot infect someone with HIV. HIV-Denmark commemorated this milestone by renaming HIV-infected as HIV-positive. In Denmark, the Serum Institute updated the risk assessment from “very low risk” to “no risk of infection”, but the National Board of Health is yet to make a statement. How do we spread the message that HIV is infection-free to the public? In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
14:00 - 14:45 TRANSGENDER IN PAKISTAN: DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY AND DIALOGUE
Join Nadia Horsted Narejo and Alice Minor in a conversation about transgender activism in Pakistan. What are the ethics of reporting about people who are so often misrepresented and disrespected in media and do not have equal access to sharing their stories? How do transgender people in Pakistan experience media representation? Nadia will share her photos from the past five years of involvement with trans communities primarily in Lahore. Nadia is a documentary photographer who focuses on LGBTQ and women’s rights in the global south. Alice is active in queer and trans communities and politics in Denmark and joined Nadia in Pakistan this summer. In English. Steak Royal, Regnbuepladsen 3, 1550 Copenhagen V
14:45 - 15:30 WHEN MAINSTREAM MEETS NORM-CRITICISM AND INTERSECTIONALITY
Norm criticism and an intersectional perspective offers concrete tools to create real change for minorities and not just (slightly too) easy solutions that in the end only contributes to the majority celebrating its own tolerance while the inequality remains unchallenged and unchanged. In recent years, norm-critical and intersectional perspectives have gained more attention and more people want to work with these perspectives in practice. This is desirable, and for a long time, many people have fought for this. But what happens when popularity takes over, the terms become buzzwords, and the content becomes mainstream? The panel will discuss issues, consequences, and solutions. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
14:45 - 15:30 CIRCUMCISION OF CHILDREN, SEXUAL RIGHTS, AND MEDICAL ETHICS
Fundamental to sexual rights is the right to decide for yourself whether or not to remove parts of your genitals or whether to have performed other forms of genital surgery. This right is taken away from girls and boys who are circumcised for religious or cultural reasons as well as from intersex children operated for societal reasons. Intact Denmark is an association fighting for all children’s rights to bodily integrity and genital autonomy. However, parents’ right to raise their children within a certain culture/religion or in accordance with particular social norms also play a role. What is more important: Parents’ right to have these traditional or standardised operations performed or children’s right to make decisions about their own body? This is the topic for discussion in this debate between Intact Denmark, who wants legislation on the issue, and someone, who does not believe legislation is the right way to go. In Danish. Steak Royal, Regnbuepladsen 3, 1550 Copenhagen V
15:30 - 16:00 AUTHOR READINGS
Join us when selected authors read from their works based on LGBTQ topics. Spend half an hour calmly listening to the authors reading and immerse yourself in the world of literature. In Danish. Steak Royal, Regnbuepladsen 3, 1550 Copenhagen V

Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
16:30 - 17:15 CHALLENGES IN AND TO THE HETERONORMATIVE RELATIONSHIP
Based on personal experiences, the panel will discuss how the heteronormative relationship (classically romantic, monogamous) challenges and is challenged by different identities and ways of having relationships and families. The debate will be based on the outside world’s reactions, continuous negotiations about children, sex, etc., and the heteronormative relationship as ideal and counterpoint. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
17:15 - 18:00 LGBT+ EQUALITY IN THE WORKFORCE
LO and FIU-Equality takes LGBT+ persons’ conditions in the workforce seriously and the organisations have launched a three-year education initiative, which includes norm-critical training of trade union representatives all over Denmark. Participants and teachers share their experiences. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
18:00 - 18:45 THE GLOBAL BATTLE FOR LGBT RIGHTS
Being LGBT is criminalized in 71 states, and at the global level, the situation seems to be deteriorating; President Putin is responsible for stigmatization, discrimination and persecution of LGBT persons in Russia. In Chechnya, gay men are detained and placed in concentration camps, and in the USA, president Trump is rapidly rolling back progressive policies introduced by president Obama. In this debate, national and international experts on LGBT rights will discuss how conservative forces have been able to gain such strong momentum, how we most efficiently fight this trend, and work towards a world where LGBT persons are no longer persecuted, discriminated against and killed. Participants: Representatives from international LGBT organisations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Danish Institute for Human Rights and Sex & Samfund. In English. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
18:45 - 19:30 GRINDR AND SEX CULTURE: LUSTFUL, POLITICAL, AND HATEFUL PERSPECTIVES
Grindr and other hook-up apps are central to the way LGBTQ+ desire is formed. Based on academic and activist experiences, Kristian Møller, Fahad Saeed, Niels Jansen, and Andrew Shield discuss how desire, racism, and transphobia work online, how apps are part of non-monogamous relationships, and how they interact with local sex cultures. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
