A Special Message from the

Director and Principal Dear Band Directors, Staff and our Distinguished Guests, Welcome to the 33rd Annual Oxnard High School Field Tournament, “Keepin’ the Music Alive.” I am Andre B. Spence and this is my second year as the Director of Bands here at Oxnard High School. I am excited to be leading this fine team of student and parents as we strive for success in all of our endeavors. This year we have again decided to feature a split, retrograde tournament that will enable your band to compete at their most prime time and will also enable them to get two high scores at the end of the season rather than just one. Another perk is for the 2A and 1A Divisions as they will be performing at night, under the stadium lights! Our tournament will feature a Drill Down competition at the conclusion of the Oxnard High School Marching SWARM’s performances today. Thank you to all of the directors and their staff for “Keepin’ the Music Alive” here at OHS. We hope that this year’s field tournament proves to be second to none and that your experience will be a great one that you can brag about to your directors back in your area. I wish all of the bands the best of luck and I am hoping for your best runs to be displayed today! Musically Yours,

ANDRE B. SPENCE

Band Director, Oxnard High School

Welcome High School Bands to Yellow Jacket Country, On behalf of our entire school community, I want to thank you for participating in this 33rd annual Oxnard HS Band Competition. We are proud of our band, our high school, and our community and hope you enjoy your day at the Hive. I want to thank all the Band Directors, their staff, students, parents, band boosters, and all others that play a role in making this day and events like it so great for kids. In addition to band, we also have Mariachi, Choir, and Jazz Ensembles. These programs bring joy to our students each and every day while teaching the values of hard work, leadership, team mentality, and commitment. Student musicians put a lot of work into their craft and into the band. High School bands are big families! Organizing a band competition like the one today requires a team of people and I want to thank our Band Director, Mr. Spence, and all the students and parents that have worked so hard for so long to ensure a well-run competition. I appreciate their efforts! Again, thank you for attending. Be sure to pick up some Strawberries and Mexican food before heading home and best wishes for a wonderful year in band. Regards,

RICHARD URIAS

Principal, Oxnard High School

ADRIAN HAWTHORNE

Adrian Michael Hawthorne, It is hard to believe that you have changed from that shy little guy who used to hide behind his Mom into the passionate and talented musician you are now! Continue developing your gifts, and there will be no limit to how far you will go! We love you and are very proud of you! Love,

Mom and Dad

REYNA BERNAL PASTRANO

Congratulations Reyna! Not only for the last four years you have been in the Oxnard High Marching Band, but for the 2 years you put in before that at Haydock Junior High. It has been so amazing to see how much you have grown these last 6 years under the guidance of your music teachers, Ms. Ekwall at Haydock, Mr. Legohn and Mr. Spence at Oxnard. They have been opened a whole new world to you, and under their influence, you have learned responsibility, discipline, how to deal with failure, how to celebrate victories, sportsmanship, appreciation of music, and seeing how hard work pays off. Our family will always be grateful to these key players who have been among the many wonderful people, our family and friends, that we have in our lives that love you. They have been part of shaping you into the beautiful, loving, funny, hard working young lady you have become. Do big things. Do little things. Do stupid things (within reason) And most of all, May God bless your path and enjoy your senior year and all you have put into it. You deserve it. While there may have been many times you wanted to quit and maybe you didn’t always find joy in it, we know it was just in passing because we know how much you do what you love and love what you do. We are all so proud of you.

LOVE, YOUR BIGGEST FANS, DAD, MOM, GRANDMA, ELENA, CHRISTINA, ANGELINA, & PETEY & YOUR FURRY BROTHER & SISTERS: SNOOPS, JOE BITE EM, TIFFANY, & BRANDY

Xavier Joshua Jacinto Xavier, We cannot begin to tell you how proud we are. You have become not only an amazing young man but a great leader. On this new chapter of your life you will discover that there are no limits on what you can achieve if you set your mind to it.
