Few Tips to Enquire z before you Design a Business Card

➢

Always follow the basics. If you’re not sure about having any kind of fancy design, always follow the orthodox path. Leave a 5mm edge border from all sides, implement 300dpi for best picture quality, use a clear and understandable font, use CMYK color palette and try to maintain the grid theory. This theory suggestsyou stack the information on the card based on their importance. This helps to narrow down the vision of the reader to the points which are more relevant than others.

➢ Try to be creative. If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, try out a different design. There are millions of designs available in the market. Feel free to pick any or mix and match them to get an ultimate design of your choice. Also don’t be afraid to readjust with the dimensions of the card itself. Try out different sizes and find out which constraints works the best with your target crowd.

➢ Printing machines use CMYK color space for cost management and also because it is the standard for printing. While working on your design on a PC, the display shows the colors in RGB color space. So before handing out a design, make sure you have checked it in the CMYK color space since color reproduction in both spaces is quite different. Make sure to see a copy before you decide on the final design.

➢ Take color bleed into consideration. When printing on a piece of paper, if your design happens to be a very intricate one, you may want to leave some gaps between the twists and curls. During printing, colors may bleed into each other, i.e., one color may get mixed with the other and this is a common phenomenon in printers. Make sure you have enough space to prevent this. Use special cards. Don’t be afraid to experiment with new types of designs. For example, a vet may have a card that resembles a dog bone, rather than a piece of a square cut paper.
