YOUR FREE MONTHLY NEWSLETTER MAY 2018 | ISSUE 1 | VOL 1

#TRENDING: WELCOME TO PCPDX Hello Photo Club PDX members, This is our very first volume of our (we hope) monthly newsletter. We are delighted to share this volume with you. First, we would like to share the vision of this PC (Photo Club) to those that doesn't are familiarized with it: Photo Club PDX was birthed from the desire to bring together photographers of varying interests, experience, and backgrounds to create an extended community of consistent face to face connection, with perpetual personal and photographic growth, all while entering into regular unnecessary creativity. The vision of the Club is to foster an environment where the larger group can bring to life many smaller focus groups to keep the community fresh and endless with opportunity. Photo Club PDX is a community of digital and film photographers possessing the desire to explore ideas, experiment, get feedback, learn from one another, and create as ours hearts desire. Instead of creating for outwardly intents we turn inward and look for the sparks that excite us, make us curious. This fuels our intention while keeping the pursuit and love of photography fresh in our busy lives.

We all have a passion for pursuing unnecessary creation in a richly diverse environment.

“Find your passion. Make your photos.” - Angela Holm, Founder -

#TRENDING: MONTHLY MEETING

&

Don't forget our monthly meetings the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm at: Cobalt Studios PDX 1030 SE Clinton St Portland, OR 97202 Follow them on:Â

APRIL PCPDX OUTING Our last Sunday of the month is spent exploring together. This month we headed to Cathedral Park under the St. Johns Bridge. The bridge became our tourist challenge for the afternoon! Our Challenge this month is to "See our city as a tourist, with fresh eyes". We blindly received our PDX location for this challenge. The idea is to see something we may be very familiar with, in a fresh and creative way. The other intentional bonus of meeting up at Cathedral Park was to be a part of Blue Moon Camera and Machines celebration picnic for International Pinhole Day! That was probably the best part! We all had the opportunity to try out Pinhole Cameras for the afternoon curiosity of BMCM! It was awesome!

We would like to share with you the three pillars that sustain PCPDX. The pillars are a resumed version of our vision statement: SOCIAL Build a community of people to create and grow with. Compile resources as a community to share with one another. Encourage one another in each of our personal photographic ventures. Collaborate as desired.

EDUCATIONAL Learn how to critique photography, constructly and confidently. Learn how to talk about our photography in front of a group. Reawaken the tactile side of photography. Bring printing back into the process. Complete challenges to expand your photographic skills and experience.

CREATIVE Provide inspiration to intentionally get creative and make photos each month. Think about our photography and explore who we are as photographers. Create a showing of work annually, possibly in multiple formats. Build cohesive bodies of work. Become better photographers.

#04 CHALLENGE Challenge of Unnecessary Creation: “Be a Tourist in your own City” In the spirit of traveling, we are going to explore our own city with fresh new eyes! In the meeting we each wrote down a place that we would like photographically explore if we were coming to Portland for the 1st time. Of course everyone thought that was going to be their personal destination for the month... But there was a twist. After everyone wrote down their location, they were asked to pass it to the person on their right. Oh yes, that made people roar with laughter!! So here it is: Those of you who were not at the meeting and would like to participate, We have a special list for you! It is numbered 1-20 right now. You email Angela Holm at Photoclubpdx@gmail.com and give her your # choice (pick a #1-20). She will then email you your Portland location! This challenge is to get us looking with new eyes at something we may have seen with our own eyes and in photographs many times over. Your challenge is see it in a new way and to communicate that to us with your chosen image. When we get to see all of our prints hanging at our May meeting, it will be as though we are visiting Portland for the 1st time! Be creative! This challenge is to help awaken us to new ways of seeing. To be re inspired by what we may consider familiar. To provoke us to deeper creativity naturally. There is no right answer. This is very personal for everyone. Explore, enjoy and discover!
