ARTICLE 19 SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL
Section 1. Members assigned to patrol Alpha shift or Alpha shift K-9 as their regular assignment are eligible for a non-discretionary shift differential bonus.
Section 2. Within six weeks after completion of a 26-week shift period on Alpha shift, members eligible for shift differential will receive a bonus of $1,500. The 26-week period begins with the first pay period in January and July of each year. If a member assigned to the patrol Alpha shift or Alpha shift K-9 is transferred on/off the patrol Alpha shift or Alpha shift K-9, the member will be compensated for the time spent on the Alpha shift or Alpha shift K-9, at a pro-rated rate equivalent to $115 per pay period worked on Alpha Shift, based on the $1,500 amount semi-annually.
Section 3. The shift differential bonus will not apply to members rotating through Alpha Shift. Members on any non-Workers’ Compensation related leave of absence (including use of sick, vacation, or comp time) for greater than 45 consecutive calendar days will receive a pro-rated bonus as specified in Section 2 of this article.
Section 4. Members voluntarily terminating employment with the City or who are transferred out of alpha shift will be eligible to receive a pro-rated bonus.
Section 5. The assignment of shifts shall not be subject to the filing of grievances or arbitration regardless of the purpose of such assignment. The City maintains the complete management right of unilaterally assigning members to a particular shift.
