Show of Inspira ti tion on We travel globally to gather inspiration from time to time. This time the destination was Paris, in search of the designer’s dreamland, Maison & Objet. This show is one to attend as it provides more than just colors and textures but dives into cultural diversity, global issues and economic effect on the industry. More than just booths and displays there are full galleries of innovative materials, design ideas and inspirational showrooms. We started off by searching the many beautiful shops and galleries that Paris had to offer. Absorbing its many avenues, plush with fashion, housewares and whimsey. Our eyes were overwhelmed by the cultural differences compared to the States. Not only in how people dressed and ate, but how they traveled and interacted. We spent two days walking the Maison & Objet show, hitting every hall and exploring every showcase. The design of the year for the show was Philippe Starck. His presentation of “Generation 2020” gave us inspiring visions of patterns, textures and materials. We explored more than just the type of wares we sell at Anchor. Our goal was to see it all, to pull inspiration from every possible corner of design and to push the limits of our current line up of product as a result. We have compiled images both from the city and from the show, organized them and developed a few products to inspire. As you go through this booklet you will find we’ve divided images up into catagories. You’ll begin with overall characteristis, such as patterns, materials, textures and colors. Then, you will move into product catagories; tabletop, prep, pantry and home decor. We have also given you a section devoted to overall design themes that we took from the show. In addition we’ve included graphic inspiration for mailers, postcards, posters and packaging. Finally, we went to the drawing board and came up with inspired products that both meet the needs of customers and follow trends and ideas found in Paris. Enjoy.

BEYOND THE SHOW UNLESS WE STUDY TRENDS, SORT & ORGANIZE THEM, ALL WE ARE DOING IS LOOKING AT THE SURFACE. WHEN WE WALK SHOWS, SHOP & OBSERVE, WHAT DOES ANY OF THIS DO FOR US UNTIL WE ESTABLISH HOW EVERYTHING INTERACTS AND BREAKS DOWN.

UNDERSTANDING TRENDS Trends don’t just appear out of thin air. They are a result of the world around us.
