Primarily a challenge in space utilization, this small house was restricted to 480 square feet with a total height limit of sixteen feet. These restrictions informed a transition of spaces from the open living area with strong connection to the outdoors to the semiprivate kitchen and work area and finally the fully protected, but projected, sleeping quarters.

The Northstar Express is a small project that I was given a majority of responsibility over while employed with OZ Architecture in Boulder, Colorado. Renderings, Design development, consultant coordination, and construction documents were largely my responsibility.

The program for the Cranbrook campus just outside Bloomfield Hills, Michigan called for a wellness center that also facilitated guests to the school. The project, therefore, broke down into three components: the wet (hot and cold pools, sauna, aroma therapy, etc.), the dry (dance studio, yoga, massage, etc), and the guest rooms. These became articulated through significantly different experiences within the building. The first pages represent one quarter’s worth of development and the second design is a further work and a second quarter where emphasis was placed on strategies concerning structure, environmental responses, and technology.
