Project 4: Hermitage This project explores the manipulation of typography and structure in order to create a Hermitage. It began with designing small fetish models that were inspired by the collages created in project three. From the collage I decided to further interpret the drawing that my mechanized drawing tool created. By creating a system of planes that I was able to extrude into layers creating chaotic grids that mapped line-weights and movement. Water has been my element of concentration for this semester, therefore making it the guide for my projects. I created a system that abstracted the typography into a series of planes that gridded the movement of water and how tides affected the landscape. Due to the short height of my island, I created a series of structures rather than a large structure that would stand out amongst the landscape. The structures grew out of the water, and were along two axis, the X-axis being used for living, and the y-axis for research Assignment |

Process and Final Drawing This drawing machine consisted of a system to trebutchet’s along an arch. The movement of the participants hand activates a series of strings that then have a counter reaction and swing the trubetches back and forth, while one string controls an arm that applies water to the ink on the end of the smaller arms allowing for more contact and unpredictable strokes.

Project 1-2: Mechanism (Drawing apparatus)
The Mangrove tree’s system of diluting brackish water and extruding salt is very amazing. This inspired the drawings and concepts explored within this project. The drawings experimented with typical ways of drafting and the use of ink and salt to explore the concept through use of mediums. The mechanism created dikutes strings of ink, from recycled water from the waterfountain, creating ink drawings.
