DONNA HORNIBROOK Head Coach • Sixth Season at Cornell University of New Brunswick ‘83 Prior to the 2004 season, Donna Hornibrook took over the reins of the Cornell University field hockey after a successful nine-year stint as head coach at Houghton College from 1995-2003. Her teams earned a program with the goal of building the Big Red into a winner in the Ivy League and a contender on the national record of 111-39-4 during that time, including a school-record 16 wins in 2003. Gulotta and Martinez then went on to be named to the 2007 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Mideast Region All-America second team. It was the first time since 2002 that Cornell has placed more than one player on an all-region team. McCracken spent 14 seasons with the Orange field hockey program, earning the promotion to associate head coach after serving as SU’s top assistant coach from 1993-2003. During her tenure, the Orange won four Big East regular-season championships and made three trips to the NCAA Tournament. McCracken was heavily involved in the coordination of the program’s recruiting efforts and served as the director of the Orange field hockey camp each summer. During her time with Syracuse, she was directly responsible for the recruitment of 22 players that received regional All-America honors, while helping to coach an additional nine players to regional All-America status. Of those 31 players, 12 went on to be named All-Americans, while three others were named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. Prior to arriving at Syracuse, McCracken spent three years as the assistant field hockey and assistant lacrosse coach at the University of Delaware. McCracken broke into the collegiate coaching profession as the head field hockey coach at LaSalle University from 1988-89. A native of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., McCracken graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 1979. A three-sport athlete for the Bishops, McCracken was a four-year letter winner in field hockey, helping her team to the Ohio State Championship as a freshman and earning Great Lakes Field Hockey Association Team honors all four seasons. She also played on the women’s basketball and lacrosse teams for three seasons, and was named to the Midwest Lacrosse Team all three years. In 1986, she was inducted into OWU’s Athletic Hall of Fame. McCracken earned her master’s degree in physical education from The Ohio State University and served as an assistant coach for the Buckeyes during the 1982 season.

Cornell University field hockey alumnae Ellen Davies ’06 will serve on Coach Donna Hornibrook’s staff for the second year as an assistant coach for the 2009 season. A transfer from Houghton College, Davies transferred to Cornell at the beginning of her junior year and immediately established herself as a valuable member of the team. A versatile player, she contributed to the defensive unit in her first season with the Big Red before returning to the midfield for her senior season. In her two years with the Big Red she saw action in all 33 games, making 14 starts. A true student-athlete, Davies was also named to the NFCH Division I National Academic Squad in 2004 and 2005. A 2006 graduate of Cornell with a bachelor’s degree in English literature, Davies spent a year teaching in Guatemala prior to obtaining a master’s degree in TESOL Adult/University Education from Boston University in 2008. Davies will be responsible for assisting with on-campus recruiting, coordinating team travel and day-to-day coaching responsibilities.

We are looking for student-athletes who have the same high standards for themselves and who are interested in continuing to build a Cornell field hockey legacy of which we all will be proud. As a coach, it is my priority to create an environment that helps student-athletes achieve their goals and live their dreams. It is my goal for all Big Red field hockey student-athletes to experience the joy of being part of an organization where they feel valued and their contribution matters. I want to see athletes reach their maximum potential and to experience the thrill of belonging to a group that is a “team” in every sense of the word. 2009 Big Red Season Outlook Cornell hopes experience and depth will lead to program’s first-ever Ivy League title.
The Big Red enters the 2009 season with the confidence, experience and depth to compete for the Ivy League title. Coming off a 2008 campaign in which Cornell went 11-5 overall and 6-1 in the conference to finish in second place in the league rankings for the third straight year, the Big Red will benefit from the return of eight starters and 14 total letter winners. Still, the 2009 edition will have to be at its best to outshine the 2008 squad, which set school records for overall victories (11), conference victories (6), goals (45), assists (38) and points (128) in a season. “I think we are very solid in all four areas and should have great balance this year,” said head coach Donna Hornibrook. “We have some really good experience and we’ve been in the title hunt for the last couple of years, so I don’t think we’re going to be intimidated. We have some areas where will need to make adjustments because we did lose some key players to graduation, but I do feel like we have the personnel necessary to step up and get the job done.” ATTACK The attack will be led by 2008 first-team Mideast Region All-America selection Catie De Stio. A unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection and the team’s Offensive MVP a year ago, De Stio led Cornell and ranked fifth in the league with 10 goals. She also chipped in a team-high six assists, good for seventh in the conference, for a total of 26 points, ranking her ninth overall in Cornell history for goals and points in a single-season. She also led the Big Red in goals (5) and assists (2) during conference play and registered at least one point in six of Cornell’s last eight games. “Catie is one of the best athletes in the Ivy League,” said Hornibrook. “She is the player other teams will focus on, but the best thing about Catie is that she’s one of the most unselfish players on the team and she’s always looking for her teammates. We saw a lot of development in the spring with her receiving skills and her stick skills and she’s worked on a lot of new shots and developed new finishing skills that will make her even more of a scoring threat.” Joining De Stio DeStio on the forward line will be be senior tri-captain Kelley Kantarian. Kantarian doubled her playing time in her junior season, seeing action in all 16 games and earning 14 starts. She ranked second on the team and ninth in the Ivy League with eight goals and chipped in two assists for 18 points on the season. Kantarian was also the most accurate shooter on the team, scoring her eight goals on just 16 shots. “Kelley had a really good season and scored some key goals for us last year,” said Hornibrook. “She is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever coached and her commitment to defense is as good as any forward I have ever seen. She has also developed a great instinct about where to be and how to get her stick on the ball when she’s in the circle.” Also fighting for playing time will be sophomore Olivia Boyd and freshman Kat DiPastina. Boyd saw action in three games as a rookie, playing against Siena, Georgetown and Bryant. “Olivia had a really good spring,” explained Hornibrook. “She is a physical athlete, a hard worker and a smart kid who will give us some depth at the attack.” A four-year letter winner at the Derryfield School, DiPastina led her team to a state title in 2007. She was named the Class S Player of the Year in both 2007 and 2008 and was the Union Leader Player of the Year in 2008. She was named both first-team all-state and all-conference as a junior and a senior. “Kat has a really explosive first step and has scored a lot of goals in high school,” said Hornibrook. “With a little seasoning she could be a solid contributor for us down the line.” MIDFIELD The midfield is easily the deepest position for the Big Red in 2009, with eight players vying for playing time. Leading the midfield will be two-time All-Ivy selection Kate Thompson. AS a sophomore, Thompson led the Big Red with six assists and added three goals for 12 points. Her lone goal during Ivy League play proved to be the game-winner against Penn. A phenomenal two-way player at the center-midfield position, Thompson uses her outstanding stick skills and athleticism to distribute the ball in the middle, while defending some of the best players in the conference. “Kate is just a workhorse for us in the middle of the field,” said Hornibrook. She sees the game very well and we hope that this season she will become the player that distributes the ball for us out of the midfield. She is a key player for us as she continues to become one of the best midfielders in the league.” Juniors Mattie Prodanovic and Sara Sanders, along with senior tri-captain Katie Kirnan will be expected to see quality playing time at the midfield along with Thompson. Prodanovic moved into a starting role during her sophomore season, seeing action in all 16 games and making 14 starts. She finished the year with four points after scoring against Lock Haven and handing out crucial assists in victories vs. Colgate and Brown. Prodanovic also registered a critical defensive save vs. the Raiders. “Mattie has become an outstanding midfielder over her first two seasons,”said Hornibrook.“I think she’s been a little underrated by our opponents, but I think she has the whole package. She is one of our fittest kids, she plays with a lot of poise and she has great vision. She always has her head up and she’s looking to combine with other players to attack, but she’s a good enough defender to play in the back if needed.” Sara Sanders saw her role increase tremendously as a sophomore as she started all 16 games for the Big Red. A player with great defensive instincts, vision and game sense, she finished the year with three goals and two assists for eight points. She registered a career-high three points vs. Siena, with one goal and one assist. “Sara played midfield in the spring but can play any of the back seven positions,” said Hornibrook “Last year, she and her sister Stephanie were the two of the best outside backs in the league. Players just couldn’t get into the circle against them. She’s tough, has a great work ethic, can play the small game and has great attacking skills. We feel like she’s a possibility at the midfield, but we just need to be solid in the back before we mover her.” Kirnan saw a significant increase in playing time during her junior season, playing in all 16 games and making one start. She tallied four goals on the season for eight total points and registered the game-winner against Harvard, helping Cornell defeat the Crimson, 1-0. Of her four goals, two came against Ivy League opponents. “Katie has had two solid seasons and she made huge strides last year, particularly last spring,” said Hornibrook. “She’s a player that sees everything around her. She’s not just looking up field, she’s trying to see where the space is and she uses back passes and lateral passes as good as anybody we have. She has great stick skills and she is versatile enough to play where ever we need her to play. She could be up front, in the midfield or in the back.” Also providing depth in the midfield will be a quartet of freshmen – Katie Laventure, Genevieve Collins, Paige

Mollineaux and Laurne Neal. Laventure lettered four times at Little Flower Academy playing both back and midfield. She led her team to the AA Provincial Championships in 2007 after a runner-up finish in 2006 and third place finishes in 2004 and 2005. She served as team captain as a senior and was named team MVP that same season. She is a three-year member of the B.C. provincial team and has finished as the runner-up at the U19 Canadian National Outdoor Championship in 2006, 2007 and 2008. “Katie has incredible vision and distribution skills,” said Hornibrook. “She’s a mature player who just needs to learn the system, but B.C. plays a similar type of defense, so she could make the adjustment fairly quickly. She could play in the backfield, but I’ve even seen her play forward, so it will just come down to where we need her.” Collins was a four-year varsity member of the field hockey team at Miles MacDonell Collegiate. She served as team captain during her final two seasons and was named the league MVP in both 2007 and 2008. As a member of Team Manitoba, she was a two-time tournament all-star, earning the U19 national field hockey championship in 2008 and the national field hockey senior championship in 2007. “At 5-7, Genevieve has great size for a field hockey player,” explained Hornibrook. “She also has good speed and once she gains some experience and gets comfortable with the system, she could become a key player.” A four-year letter winner at Delran HS, Mollineaux was named the 2008 Burlington County Player of the Year, as well as the Field Hockey Club of South Jersey Captain of the Year. She was named to the Burlington County first-team, the All-Star South Jersey team, the All-Star Senior Showcase Team and the Star Ledger first-team while serving as team captain as a senior. “Paige is a really good athlete with great size, power and speed,” said Hornibrook. “She has an awesome work ethic and she’ll bring mental toughness and competitiveness to the team.” A four-year letter winner at Arundel Senior high school, Neal served as team captain as a senior and was an all-county honorable mention selection in 2007 and 2008. “Lauren is a passionate player that is just an incredible competitor,” said Hornibrook. “She’s coming to Cornell with a nice set of skills and she reads the game well and makes good decisions, so I think she will give us depth and versatility depending on our needs.” BACK An instrumental part of the Big Red defense since stepping on campus, senior tri-captain Natalie Appleton will look to take on a new role as the vocal leader of the team as she organizes the defense. As a junior, she saw action in 15 games, making 13 starts. She was the anchor of a defensive unit that allowed less than 10 shots per game and just 5.4 penalty corners per game, the best school average since the stat began to be recorded in 1998. Thanks to her role as the team’s stick-stopper on penalty corners, she finished the year with five assists, good for third on the team and ninth in the Ivy League. “Natalie has been a key part of our success over the past three seasons,” said Hornibrook. “She is a great open-field tackler who rarely creates a foul unless it’s a necessary foul. We’re hoping for big things from her in her final season and we will be looking to her to take over as the vocal leader of the team.” Joining Appleton on the back line will be juniors Stephanie Sanders and Liz Schovee, as well as freshman Alex Robson. Stephanie Sanders moved into a starting role for the Big Red as a sophomore, getting the start in all 16 games. “Stephanie could play any number of positions, but she is one of the best outside backs in the league,” said Hornibrook. “She had very few fouls against her last year and she rarely turns the ball over. She is very reliable with great poise and good attack skills.” Schovee used her athleticism and work ethic to see a significant increase in playing time last season, playing in 12 games and making four starts. “Liz played some key moments for us last year and had a very good spring,” said Hornibrook. “She’s really tough on the left side and she is one of our fastest kids. She is also very poised and has a nice hit, so I think she’ll become a more consistent contributor for us in the fall.” Robson was a four-year starter for Gleneagle Secondary School and led her team to four straight district championships. A three-year team captain, she earned her team’s Captain Award twice and was twice named Academic Athlete of the Year. As a senior, she led her team to a third-place finish at the Provincial tournament. “Alex has great size and reach with a nice hit and a lot of experience as a defender,” explained Hornibrook. “She is a player who we can develop into a really solid central defender.” GOALIES The Big Red brings back two solid goalies as incumbent starter Melanie Jue and last season’s back-up Alex Botte return to the team. After taking a two-year hiatus from field hockey, Jue joined the Big Red field hockey team prior to the 2008 season and immediately took over a starting role in-between the pipes. A two-sport athlete at Cornell, she spent much of the season ranked in the top-20 in the nation in both save percentage and goals-against average before finishing 24th overall with a .742 save percentage and 29th in the country with a 1.66 GAA. She posted an 11-4 record with three shutouts, including one in Ivy League action. She was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Sept. 9 after helping the Big Red open the season with a 1-1 record. In her first collegiate start, she made 19 saves against No. 19 Albany before dropping a 1-0 decision to the Great Danes. The 19 saves were the most since Kaitlin Tierney stopped 20 shots vs. Princeton on Oct. 21, 2000, and were the third-highest number of saves in the nation during the 2008 season by a goalie in a single game. For her efforts, she was named first-team All-Ivy, as well as the team’s co-Defensive MVP following the season. “Melanie is a great athlete that came back to field hockey after two years and had a solid season,” explained Hornibrook. “She’s a gamer with the athleticism and instincts to be a solid goalie. Her style is not always orthodox, but I think after having one season under her belt, we expect to see her get more into a groove this year and take the next step in her development. She reads the game well and she’s a good communicator, but one of her best assets is her competiveness and the team feeds off of that.” Botte saw 117 minutes of action as a freshman, including a complete game performance against Fairfield. She made nine saves and allowed just one goal for a 0.76 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage. Following the season, she earned the team’s Class Of ’91 Cup as the player with the most promising future. “Alex is a really good, fundamentally sound goalie that plays has good hands and plays her angles and clears the ball really well,” said Hornibrook. “She had a really solid freshman year and will challenge for more playing time this season.”

At Cornell Appleton, one of the captains of the 2009 squad, saw action in 15 games during her junior season, making 13 starts. She was the anchor of a defensive unit that allowed less than 10 shots per game and just 5.4 penalty corners per game, the best school average since the stat began to be recorded in 1998. As the team’s stick-stopper on penalty corners, she finished the year with five assists, good for third on the team and ninth in the Ivy League. She posted a season-high two assists vs. Columbia and one of her assists was on the game-winner vs. Lehigh. As a sophomore, Appleton started all 17 games and ran a Cornell back line which allowed opponents less than 11 shots per game and ranked third in the Ivy League with four shutouts in 2007. Her four defensive saves topped the Ivy League and her four assists ranked second on the team. She finished the season with six points, tallying her first career goal in Cornell’s 3-2 upset victory over No. 19 Syracuse. After suffering a preseason injury and missing the first three games of her rookie campaign, Appleton stepped into a starting role for the final 13 contests of the 2006 season. She finished the year by winning the team’s Most Improved Player award, as well as the Class of ’91 Cup, given annually to the player with the most promising future. Appleton took over as the team’s stick stopper midway through the season and finished the year with two assists. She was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Oct. 16.
Honors and Records
At Glenlyon Norfolk School Appleton was a valuable member of the British Columbia provincial team for five years, playing in her respective age-group and winning five national championships. A player with exceptional skills and a tremendous understanding of the game, Appleton served as team captain during her final two seasons at Glenlyon Norfolk School and earned MVP honors as a senior. She also played soccer, where she earned most valuable defender honors. Personal Natalie Alicia Munoz Appleton is the daughter of Graham and Becky Appleton and she has one older sister. She is enrolled in Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

At Cornell After taking a two-year hiatus from field hockey, Jue joined the Big Red field hockey team prior to the 2008 season and immediately took over a starting role in the cage. A two-sport athlete at Cornell, she spent much of the season ranked in the top-20 in the nation in both save percentage and goals-against average before finishing 24th overall with a .742 save percentage and 29th in the country with a 1.66 GAA. She posted an 11-4 record with three shutouts, including one in Ivy League action. She was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Sept. 9 after helping the Big Red open the season with a 1-1 record. She led her team to a third place finish at the prestigious Bridgeman cup in 2005, the highest finish in school history. During her time at Little Flower, Jue also helped her team to three second-place finishes at the AA high school Provincial championships. Jue played for team British Columbia every year that she was eligible, except in 2006 when sidelined by an injury. In 2003, she played on team BC at the U18 Nationals and was named to the tournament all-star team after posting a shut out in en route to a gold medal victory over Saskatchewan. Personal Melanie Leanne Jue is the daughter of David and Jean Jue and has two sisters. She is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Her uncle, Bryan Chiu, plays for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.

At Cornell One of three captains for the 2009 season, Kantarian doubled her playing time in her junior season, seeing action in all 16 games and earning 14 starts. She ranked second on the team and ninth in the Ivy League with eight goals and chipped in two assists for 18 points on the season. Kantarian was also the most accurate shooter on the team, scoring her eight goals on just 16 shots. She tallied game-winners against Colgate and Dartmouth and assisted on the game-winner at Brown. For her two-goal, one-assist efforts in the 4-2 victory against the Bears, Kantarian was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Oct. 28. Following the season, she was one of three players that earned the team’s Most Improved Player award. After not playing as a freshman, Kantarian took several large steps in her development and saw action in eight games during her sophomore season. A player with a nose for the goal, she has good instincts in the circle and works hard to be in the right place at the right time. At Rye HS A three-time letter winner at Rye HS, Kantarian earned all-league and all-section honors as a junior and senior. She was also named all-state and to the Gannett Newspaper all-star team after registering six goals and 17 assists in 2005. She helped her team to a New York state championship in 2003, a berth in the state finals in 2004, and a sectional finals appearance in 2005. Kantarian led her Empire State team to a gold medal in 2005 and competed in the National Field Hockey Festival in 2004 and 2005. Kantarian also earned four varsity letters in soccer.

Honors and Records
At North Shore HS De Stio earned 12 varsity letters in three sports - field hockey, basketball and lacrosse - during her career at North Shore HS. In 2004 and 2005, she was the field hockey team’s leading scorer and was team MVP, leading the squad to the Class B Nassau County Championships. She was an all-state and regional All-America selection in 2005 and 2006. De Stio was designated one of the top U19 players in the United States in field hockey and was invited to the junior national team camp in 2006-07. De Stio was part of the silver medal winning team in 2004 and bronze medal teams in 2005 and 2006 at the Empire State Games. She also lettered three times in basketball and four times in lacrosse, where she was named team MVP. For her accomplishments, De Stio was named North Shore’s top female athlete following her senior season.
2008 Season Review
At Cornell De Stio finished her sophomore season as a first-team Mideast Region All-America selection, becoming just the third sophomore in Big Red history to earn a firstteam honor, joining Cari Hills (1995) and Carissa Mirasol (2000). A unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection and the team’s Offensive MVP, De Stio led Cornell and ranked fifth in the league with 10 goals. She also chipped in a team-high six assists, good for seventh in the conference, for a total of 26 points, ranking her ninth overall in Cornell history for goals and points in a single-season. She also led the Big Red in goals (5) and assists (2) during conference play and registered at least one point in six of Cornell’s last eight games. For the year, De Stio registered four game-winning goals, good for first in the conference and tied for second overall in Cornell history for game-winners in a single season. Of her six assists on the season, two came on game-winning goals, as she set up the winners vs. Colgate and Dartmouth. De Stio was named the Ivy League Player of the Week on Oct. 7 after registering game-winning goals against both Yale and Lehigh. De Stio also tallied a hat-trick against Bryant and had a hand in all three goals, scoring two and assisting on one, as the Big Red defeated Dartmouth in the season finale. De Stio had a brilliant rookie season, seeing action in all 17 games and making six starts. She registered four goals and three assists to rank second on the team with 11 points. Following the season, she was named honorable mention All-Ivy. A player with great vision and poise, three of her four goals during the year proved to be game-winners. De Stio was a two-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week selection, earning the distinctions after her outstanding performances against Princeton and Syracuse helped Cornell to defeat the Tigers for the first time in 16 tries and the Orange for the first time since 1983. .

Personal Katie Jean Kirnan is the daughter of Jack and Jean Kirnan. Her older sister, Tarah played lacrosse at Penn, and she has a younger brother, Patrick. She is enrolled in Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences.

At The Hun School Kirnan earned four varsity letters at The Hun School where she served as team captain and was named MVP in both her junior and senior seasons. A versatile player with excellent quickness, she scored 20 goals and registered 18 assists during her career. Kirnan was an alternate for the National Futures tournament and earned numerous accolades during her career, including being named to the All-New Jersey Prep first-team, the Mid-Atlantic Prep League first-team and the CJFHCA first-team. She was named to the Star Ledger first-team, the Trenton Times All-Prep first-team and the Princeton Packet first-team. Kirnan also earned four varsity letters in lacrosse.

She tallied four goals on the season for eight total points and registered the game-winner against Harvard, helping Cornell defeat the Crimson, 1-0. Of her four goals, two came against Ivy League opponents. Following the season, she earned her second selection to the NFHCA National Academic Squad and was one of three players that earned the team’s Most Improved Player award. After an injury-plagued rookie season limited Kirnan’s playing time to just one game, she rebounded to see action in five games as a sophomore.

2 Varsity Letters At Cornell Prodanovic moved into a starting role during her sophomore season, seeing action in all 16 games and making 14 starts. She finished the year with four points after scoring against Lock Haven and handing out crucial assists in victories vs. Colgate and Brown. Prodanovic also registered a critical defensive save vs. the Raiders. A player that showed steady improvement throughout her rookie campaign, Prodanovic received the team’s Most Improved Player award following the 2007 season. As a freshman, she played in 10 games, making two starts. She was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Oct. 23 for her role in the Big Red’s 2-1 victory over Brown when she registered her first collegiate point by assisting on the game-winning goal with 46 seconds remaining in regulation. Following the season, she was named to the NFHCA National Academic squad.. At Oak Park and River Forest HS The 2006 Illinois High School Field Hockey Player of the Year, Prodanovic was a four-year letter winner at Oak Park and River Forest HS. That same season, she served as team captain, was the squad’s leading scorer, was named team MVP and selected as the Offensive Player of the Year. Prodanovic led the Huskies to the state championship three times, including a second-place finish in 2004. She was a member of the US Futures National Tournament U19 team in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and was an alternate for the 2005 Junior Olympics team. Prodanovic also lettered three times in softball, leading the team to victory in the 2005 IHSA 6AA Softball Championships.
At Cornell Sanders saw her role increase tremendously as a sophomore as she started all 16 games for the Big Red. A player with great defensive instincts, vision and game sense, she finished the year with three goals and two assists for eight points. She registered a career-high three points vs. Siena, with one goal and one assist. Sanders saw action in eight games during her freshman season. At Maine Endwell HS Sanders was a four-time Section IV first-team all-star, a two-time all-state and regional All-America selection in 2005 and 2006, earning four varsity letters at Maine Endwell HS. She helped the Spartans to the Class B state championship in 2004 and was a two-time recipient of the all-state award in 2005 and 2006. At the New York State Empire Games, Sanders won a gold medal in 2004 and silver medals in 2005 and 2006, serving as the Central team’s co-captain in 2006. She also won a silver medal with the USFHA National Futures team at the national championships. Sanders lettered five times in lacrosse, serving as the captain in 2006 and 2007. She helped the lacrosse team to a Sectional Championship in 2005 and was a Section IV first-team all-star in 2005 and 2006. 2 Varsity Letters At Cornell Schovee used her athleticism and work ethic to see a significant increase in playing time during the 2008 season. The defender played in 12 games and made four starts as part of a defensive unit that ranked among the best in the Ivy League, allowing less than 10 shots per game and just 5.4 penalty corners per game, the best school average since the stat began to be recorded in 1998. Following the season, she was one of three players that earned the team’s Most Improved Player award. Schovee saw action in just one game during her rookie campaign. She is one of the fastest members of the squad and plays with poise beyond her years. As she continues to develop the technical side of her game, and combines that with her speed, she will become a dangerous threat. .

2008 Season Review
At Cathedral Catholic HS Botte was a three-year letter winner at Cathedral Catholic HS where she started in goal for three seasons. A two-time first-team All-Division II and first-team AllWestern League honoree, she was named the Union Tribune Field Hockey Player to Watch as a senior. Botte was also a 2007 first-team all-San Diego CIF Section selection, following-up an appearance on the second-team in 2006. She was named her team’s best defensive player as a junior and earned co-MVP honors as a senior after leading her team to a Western League championship. Botte was a two-time field hockey All-Academic Scholar Athlete. She also lettered three times in basketball and lacrosse, earning MVP honors as a junior from her lacrosse team and being named a 2008 Union Tribune Lacrosse Player to Watch.

Personal Katharine Jean Thompson is the daughter of John and Anne Thompson and has younger twin sisters. She is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Personal Elizabeth Kathryn Schovee is the daughter of Stephen and Allison Schovee and she has a younger brother. Her aunt and uncle, Judy and Jim Snow, received their master’s degrees from Cornell in 1976. Schovee is enrolled in the School of Hotel Administration.

At Cornell Thompson earned an honorable mention All-Ivy selection following her sophomore season after leading the Big Red with six assists and adding three goals for 12 points. Her lone goal during Ivy League play proved to be the game-winning goal against Penn. A phenomenal two-way player at the center-midfield position, Thompson used her outstanding stick skills and athleticism to distribute the ball in the middle, while defending some of the best players in the conference. Her rookie campaign got off to an outstanding start before an injury sidelined her for the final seven games of the season. Still, with five Ivy League games under her belt, conference coaches thought highly enough of her performance to vote her onto the Ivy League honorable mention team. Thompson saw action in 10 games overall, making nine starts, and finished the year with three goals and two assists for eight points. Her six points and two assists during Ivy League action both ranked first on the team. Thompson was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week once during the season and she was named the recipient of the Cornell Class of ‘91 Cup for the player with the most promising future. Following her outstanding rookie season, Thompson was selected to the Canadian Junior World Cup training squad for the summer of 2008. . . At Point Grey Secondary School Thompson was a five-year letter winner at Point Grey Secondary School. A midfielder, she led her team to a third-place finish at the Provincial Championships tournament in both 2005 and 2006. She was selected to the U19 Provincial team in 2007, where she participated in the Can/Am Challenge and the Western Canada Summer Games. In 2006, as a member of the BC U18 Provincial team, Thompson led the team to victory over the US U19 team. She was a two-time captain of the regional British Columbia High Performance U18 NW team and captain of the U16 NW team for one year. Thompson was a member of the Point Grey soccer team, helping the squad to a Provincial Championship in 2005 and a second-place finish in 2006.
At Kent Denver School Schovee was a four-year letter winner at Kent Denver School, serving as cocaptain her senior season. A defender, Schovee led the Sun Devils to the 5A state championships for three consecutive years. She was named to the Colorado all-state team in 2005 and 2006 and was a regional All-America selection in 2007. Schovee was a four-time selection to the Region 10 National Futures Tournament team from 2003 to 2007 and served as an alternate for the U16 Junior Olympic Team in 2003. She lettered three times in lacrosse, where she helped her team to a state championship in 2005.

1 Varsity Letter At Cornell Buckingham saw the field in three games during her freshman season, playing against Siena, Georgetown and Bryant. She registered her first collegiate point with an assist vs. Bryant. At Shawnee HS A 2007 NFHCA Regional All-American, Buckingham earned three varsity letters, starting two seasons for Shawnee HS. As a senior captain, she helped her team to a No. 7 national ranking and a Group III State championship. Buckingham was named a 2007 Star Ledger first-team all-state selection, as well as a Courier Post first-team All South Jersey, a Burlington County Times first-team All-County and first-team All-Group III selection. She was also a member of the 2007 NFHCA High School National Academic Squad. Buckingham earned the Field Hockey Club of South Jersey Captain Award and was an FHCSJ first-team All-South Jersey, first-team all-conference and an all-star selection. After a junior season in which she helped her team finish with an 18-2-2 record, she was named firstteam All-Star Patriot Division, as well as Burlington County Times first-team allcounty and first-team all-conference. Buckingham was also named a Star Ledger third-team All-South Jersey and a third-team All-Group III selection that season and earned her team’s Unsung Hero Award. Hornibrook on Collins: Genevieve is an outstanding athlete who plays with a lot of poise and has wonderful experience, thanks to her invitation to the Canadian National Team talent identification camp as a high school junior. We believe that she has only begun to scratch the surface of her potential. Genevieve has the versatility to contribute in the midfield and backfield and we are excited about what she will add to our team. At Miles MacDonell Collegiate: Collins, a midfielder from Winnipeg, Mann., was a four-year varsity member of the field hockey team at Miles MacDonell Collegiate. She served as team captain during her final two seasons and was named the league MVP in both 2007 and 2008. As a member of Team Manitoba, she was a two-time tournament all-star, earning the U19 national field hockey championship in 2008 and the national field hockey senior championship in 2007. Collins also played volleyball for four seasons and basketball for three seasons. Personal: Genevieve Nicole Collins is the daughter of Grant and Pam Collins and she has two older sisters. She has excellent hands and very solid skills and we expect that she will develop into a very good all-around player. At Arundel Senior HS: A four-year letter winner at Arundel Senior high school, Neal served as team captain as a senior and was an all-county honorable mention selection in 2007 and 2008. She helped her club team to a second place finish at the 2007 National Festival. Neal also lettered twice in track and field. She has the benefit and experience of competing in British Columbia for her regional and club program, so she has had exposure playing the game at a high level. At Gleneagle Secondary School: Robson was a four-year starter for Gleneagle Secondary School and led her team to four straight district championships. A three-year team captain, she earned her team’s Captain Award twice and was twice named Academic Athlete of the Year. As a senior, she led her team to a third-place finish at the Provincial tournament. Robson also played four years of netball and two years of basketball. Her netball team finished as Provincial champions all four years and she was named the MVP at the Senior Netball Provincial Tournament as a junior. Personal: Alexandra Carey Robson is the daughter of Gary and Carole Robson and she has one older brother. She is enrolled in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
Hornibrook on Mollineaux: Paige is a powerful and all-around solid athlete with quick hands. She will also bring a lot of versatility to the team. Paige’s play demonstrates a good balance between scoring and distributing. We were impressed with her play at the National Futures Touranment and believe that she will have the ability to help us in many areas. At Delran HS: A four-year letter winner at Delran HS, Mollineaux was named the 2008 Burlington County Player of the Year, as well as the Field Hockey Club of South Jersey Captain of the Year. She was named to the Burlington County first-team, the All-Star South Jersey team, the All-Star Senior Showcas Team and the Star Ledger

Hornibrook on Laventure: Katie has tremendous vision, an unbelievable work ethic and a commitment to the game. It has been fun watching her growth over the past few years and she has clearly developed the versatility to play almost any position on the field. Likewise, her experience playing with the BC provincial program will be a real asset. At Little Flower Academy: Laventure lettered four times at Little Flower Academy playing both back and midfield. She led her team to the AA Provincial Championships in 2007 after a runnerup finish in 2006 and third place finishes in 2004 and 2005. She served as team captain as a senior and was named team MVP that same season. Laventure was also the winner of her team’s Best Defensive Player award in both 2004 and 2005. She is a three-year member of the B.C. provincial team and has finished as the runner-up at the U19 Canadian National Outdoor Championship in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Laventure also played for the second place team at the U19 Canadian National Indoor Championship in 2008.
