Mrs Marianne Beale is a lifelong environmental campaigner, who has been chosen as the Saltash Environmental Citizen of the Year for 2019. This award was instigated in 2017 by the Mayor of Saltash and the Rotary Club of Saltash to recognise local residents for serving the community/ environment in some special way. Marianne was founder of Saltash Environmental Action (SEA) in 2007. She has remained the driving force behind SEA and has worked tirelessly via SEA to promote greener living in our local area and beyond. Marianne was founder of Saltash Environmental Action (SEA) in 2007. She has remained the driving force behind SEA and has worked tirelessly via SEA to promote greener living in our local area and beyond. She has campaigned ceaselessly to reduce the amount of plastic we use long before the government introduced the charge for plastic bags, and initiated or helped with many SEA projects including Veg In Beds, Saltash Refill project, Saltash Apple Project, maintaining SEA’s small bed in Victoria Gardens of vegetables , fruit and insect friendly plants, SEA’s entry to the Christmas tree festival, and Making Saltash Greener, a two week festival with many events. Marianne helps with public meetings for talks and films in the Guildhall, and the SEA stall at May Fair, Churchtown Awareness Day, Saltash Regatta and other local events. Most recently she has taken part in the Extinction Rebellion non violent action in London. She stayed on Waterloo bridge for a 23 hour stretch!. The bridge was transformed into a garden and Marianne took Cornish primroses to adorn the bridge! As Saltash Environmental Citizen of the Year, Marianne was given a framed certificate to keep, and there a glass trophy donated by the Rotary Club of Saltash, which is held for a year.
