1920s Cornishware was first produced in the 1920s by T.G.Green & Co., the Derbyshire pottery company which was established in 1864. T.G.Green made a diverse range of pottery, including their iconic Cornishware. 1960s Cornishware was updated by a young designer called Judith Onions in the 1960s. It went on to become a design classic, highly sought-after by collectors. Today A British partnership came together to revive the brand after the T.G.Green factory was forced into administration in 2007. The partnership includes entrepreneur Charles Rickards, design and brand consultant Perry Haydn Taylor and his wife Vik, an avid Cornishware collector. The Cornishware range was re-launched in 2009.

How it got its name Cornish Blue’s highly distinctive blue and white banded livery is recognised internationally and the pottery owes its name to a T.G.Green employee who was reminded of the blue skies and white-crested waves of Cornwall. An advertising campaign from 1938 included the lines: ‘Blue of the Atlantic, White of Cornish Clouds, Glisten of the Sea, What Woman Could Resist Such Beauty in her Kitchen?’ A design icon Cornishware’s trademark blue and white stripes came from the lathe-turning process, which removed bands of the blue slip to reveal the white clay beneath. Cornishware has become a design classic, nominated by the London Design Museum as one of the Top 100 20th Century Design Icons. Designed to be used every day The Cornishware range has classic, simple items suitable for breakfast, lunch, tea and supper. The range is durable; all the items are designed to be used every day and are dishwasher-proof. Not just Blue Believe it or not, Cornishware doesn’t just come in the famous blue and white stripes.
