A Walk in the Park by Hattie Foote

I have a controversial confession

to make. I don’t love Concert in the Park. I know, I know, what kind of local am I? But the schlepping of supplies and not losing my little kids in the sea of people wasn’t my idea of a quiet Sunday night. Sidenote: It makes me sweat saying “local.” I have seen many discussions on community social media forums over the years discussing what qualifies you to be considered a local. Regardless, in my 12 years of living here Concert in the Park just hasn’t been one of my must do activities. But as the saying goes, you don’t know what you have till it’s gone, and boy was everything gone this past year and a half! So, I rallied our best friends, loaded our wagon, put my order in at High Tide, and we were off to rock out. However, this time was different. I watched as our community laughed and danced and ate and drank. I can’t speak for everyone, but for me it was a newfound appreciation for the things I took for granted. Spreckels Park was shining.
