Jolie Coronado

The dining scene in Coronado has a wide variety of styles and cuisines, but Jolie, at 126 Orange Avenue, is offering something new along with classic seated dining.

Patrons have the option of enjoying fresh, seasonal prepared dishes or taking home a variety of meats, seafood, cheeses, and other specialty items from the butchery portion of the restaurant.

The four owners—Christian Biafora (who also owns the building), head chef Jason Witzl, Molly Sirody, and Pedro Quintero—all have a long-time love of Coronado but recognized a local need for high-quality retail meats and seafood.

When the space, which formerly housed Mexican Village, Spicy House, and a CBD shop, became available, they set the wheels in motion, and Jolie opened to the public on Friday, March 24.

I stopped in on a sunny Saturday afternoon and was impressed by the variety of both food and beverage selections.

Diners can enjoy arancini, pork belly, Parkerhouse rolls with two types of butter, salads, cheese and charcuterie, several seafood options, and more. Biafora noted that the shrimp and melon salad—made with chilled shrimp, melon, and cucumber, is already a local favorite.

The salad won over my tastebuds with the first bite. Witzl’s skill with flavors and textures makes this one a clear winner. Each ingredient adds a depth of flavor while still allowing the fresh seafood to be the star of the show. The wine list is also carefully curated, with options for sparkling, whites, and reds. They’re available by the glass and can also be purchased by the bottle to take home.

Other specialty items that are currently available are freshly baked and locally sourced bread, vinegar, and olive oil.

While Jolie is still considered “new” relative to some of Coronado’s more longstanding establishments, the unique menu and fresh flavors have already made it a local favorite. In the coming weeks, patrons can also expect an exciting and surprising new twist to the beloved Jolie menu. But in the meantime, flip through our top picks from the current menu and consider Jolie for your next dinner date night.
